I've had good success with a small clone dome for like $15 at the local hydro store and a $24 dollar heat mat by hydrofarm. Never had a failure. step 1 cut the clipping from the mama flush not at an angle. step2 clip any larger fan leaves in half to stimulate rooting. step3 scrap the end of the clipping with a clean razor not actualy cutting but softly removing the outer layers of the stems skin. Step4 cut the clipping with the same razor at a 45 degree angle not smashing the stem.step5 roll it arund in some rooting gel i use clonex and smack it into the 2x2 rockwool cube and put her in the dome with flourescent lighting 24hrs for about a week and a half . just lift the media tray and look for roots poking through the flow holes. check out the clone stuff they have online or if possible a hydro store. oh yeah you can use a real light nuetrinet solution at like 200 for watering. and just keep water in the tray barely touching the cubes.

thanks that sound similar to what i was doing im guessing my problem was over watering as they would turn to mush after 3 or 4 days

what size cutting do you use ?

each time iv tried cloning i usually use a shoot thats about 2 1/2 inch tall once its cut, trimd, an dipd into hormone
iv recently been told to use bigger cuttings around 5" - 6" tal so i would be interested in hearin opinions on this an wot works best for "you"
im gonna try again and use bigger cuttings if i can get 12" cuttings to root that would be sweet as if the clone is already 12" tall after 2 weeks to root then i can cut my vegin time down to 2 weeks
please let me knoe wot you think

I have and do cut both with equal success and failure. When I am cutting 16 at a time, I am not picky on size as I am typically taking from 3 "mothers" or whatever is vegging at the time. I probably have a 90% success rate. I suppose if I washed my hands to get the nicotine off, or quit being a newbie and misting them all the time, it would be 100%. Root rot has been my #1 nemisis as well.

very good point m8 i dont wash my hands before taking cuttings an i smoke like a chimney so the nicotine wont be helping and i do mist them about 15 times a day so youv got 2very good points there + rep

yeah size really doesnt matter, ive actualy had good luck with both.. one thing could be the humidity. if the dome doesnt get humid enough they wont make it. make sure you spray the dome with clean water and have kinda foggy dome. yeah and i hardly ever mist. misting kinda slows rooting because the cuttings using the foliar feeding to survive instead of being forced to root to get water. i always look for cuttings with opposing new growth at the top and atleast one fan leaf to cut in half to stimulate rooting.

I had 6 clones of the 10 I took root successfully, so I'm calling it a success for my first time. Its weird that some of them developed flowers AFTER i cut them, but I did wait to cut until I saw preflowers. Hopefully, they will be heading into the flowering chamber as I'm bringing out the first of my harvest.

I have a grow tent for veg and bloom, and I use my bathroom for a cloning station. I have no cabinets so I hung a cord with 3 CFLs over a small stand supporting my humidity dome. I've had zero and 100% survive. My problem was always over watering. So now I am strict. Rock wool is best. but Jiffy pellets are cheap and easy to find. So, first I soak the pellets in water. I might mix a very light solution of B1 (Superthrive 1 drop/gal) and H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide 50-100ml/gal), but plain filtered, oxygenated water is fine. Then I take my cutting, clip the leaves, score up the stem and dip it in hormone. I like the gel but again the powder is easy to find. Then I put the stem into the Jiffy pellet and I am careful to not squeeze it much beyond setting the stem because I want it to be most arable and not compacted. Rather, I place the pellet on several folded up paper towels in order to soak up the extra water. When the pellet looks wet but no longer saturated, I put it into a humidity dome. I wish I had a small heating pad under the bottom to warm it a bit, but I don't. When I did, it all worked a bit better. After this, I never mess with it at all. I just take the top off the dome when I shower to give it air and humid mist. I place the dome back when the room is still foggy. Also, at first I use 1 23w bulb, then after a few days I add another and then the third. It takes between 1 and 3 weeks to get roots. They will all survive if I am strict with myself. But if I water them, especially if I water the pellets themselves, the stems will turn to mush and the clones will all die. I hope this helps.

Thanks Erie that helped out a lil bit what do you keep your temp and humid for the clones and that was my problem I was over watering them I sparayed it so much that they got a big hole at the bottom of the stem and pretty much rot. my problem is maintaing them after the cutting I just dont know what to do if someone can say what they do during middle of cloning as for temps, humid, mist, dome heat pad , whatever you do after cutting say around 1-7 days. + rep for help. Thanks you guys.

Temp is mid 80's and as long as there's condensation inside the dome, you have good humidity. Another thing I learned from my own faults is to not mess with them too much. It takes time for the humidity to go back up after lifting the lid, so leave them alone and their environment will stay stable and healthy. If it seems too dry and you want to add moisture, mist it around the interior black area of the dome bottom and not directly onto the jiffy pellets. Let them absorb excess water from the environment rather than shed excess from within.

I hear a lot of people misting multiple times a day. You don't need to mist multiple times if your humidity remains high like Eire says.

I mist once a day (spray the clones AND cover the inside of the dome with spray). Make sure your rapid rooters are not bone dry (damp is good so when you press your finger on the rapid rooter, a little moisture dampens your finger). I like to have a 50ppm nute solution including some "roots excelerator" "Algen Extract", and a little "Drip Clean". It's true at cutting they don't absorb nutes, but the second the little bastards can use some, they take off.

Then they sit under a 400watt HPS super blue and within a week they're leafy and ready for rockwool.

Dame can someone explain what to do after the cutting to maintain them ppl say use a heatpad and mist the dome when it drys and dont touch it I did that and my rockwool came real dry and they died IDK what to do I cut 20 and all of them died can someone also explain what triggers the roots to come out so I can focus on that. Is it the humid heat what? Im really confuse on how to keep them alive. Ppl always explain the cutting part but not what to do after. please help I want to cut again but I dont know what to do after + rep for help please guys I cant do anything untill someone gives out that golden step by step help thanks guys in advance

Just cloned last night. Many people have their own cloning techniques, but here is what I do and get a 2-5% failure rate. (usually 1 or 2 out of 40 clones will die)

Materials:
Healthy mother plant
Clean Razorblade
Bowl of Water (RO)
Small bowl of Clonex Gel
Large bowl of 50ppm Nutes:
--Aqua Flakes A + B
--Roots Exelerator
--Algen Extract
--Drip Clean
Bag of Rapid Rooters


1. Put the rapid rooters into the 50 ppm nutrient bowl
2. Put the wet rapid rooters into your little clone holder tray
3. Make cuttings
4. Dip the cut immediately into water. (I swish it around a little bit.. more of an Obsessive Compulsive thing than anything else)
5. Dip in Clonex Gel
6. Firmly place the cutting into the rapid rooter (firm contact with the medium and the cut)
7. Cut the fan leaves basically in half (reduces water loss due to evap)
8. Spray RO water all over the cuttings in the tray
9. Spray the inside of the dome
10. Put the dome on the tray
11. Once a day at 7pm-ish I spray the plants, spray the inside of the dome, and put it back on
12. In 6-7 days I pull the dome off and put them in rockwool cubes that were soaked in 150ppm solution. You should have tons of roots at this point coming out of your rapid rooter.
13. Don't water your rockwool for 2-3 days
14. Use 350ppm nute solution for the first week of rockwool, then jump it up to 400-500ppm for another 2 weeks
15. Flip your plants (12/12)

For Rockwool cube size, technically you could flower in a six-inch rockwool cube, but I prefer to transplant them into 3x3's for 3 weeks before I put the plant into Hydroton in a 3-gallon bucket.

Snip, Dip, Stick and FORGET! Spray them enough so they dont dry out and die on you, they don't neep to be wet all the time, why would they need to make roots if they got everything they need already??

What triggers the roots to come out? The cutting wants to survive. It will realize "Damn I need to push out some roots to find a water source because this mofo stopped supplying me with it". This is why you stop spraying and remove your dome (if you use one) after 6 days or so.
