that sounds like a pretty good plan .. you could always add one more to the top if you felt like it, so room to expand is always good. btw.. how are your clones doing now? got any pictures..

clones have all developed new leaves, they look good, lots of roots too. How much root mass do I allow before upgrading from my 20oz cups?

new growth will get slow if not cease or the cup won't retain enough water to last them for a day.. they could start showing signs of underwatering.. believe it or not.. solo cups can sustain a decent plant! there is actually a solo cup grow off thread between a bunch of the guys on the forum for highest yield in a solo cup lol.. but if you think they are getting root bound, hack off the top of a 1 gallon milk jug or two liter bottle, paint it black, poke one or two holes and 1.5-2 inches up on the jug/bottle and do the same thing you are doing now... in those containers they will definately be able to outgrow your cab and they should be fine until you transplant them for flower

What are the signs I should be looking for? And since its my first clone try I really dnt know what healthy clones should look like, dark/light green leaves? And the Rapid Rooter, Im watering when they dnt leave water on my finger tip when touching it, basically when the tops like my kitchen sponge after being left out for a day. Ive been guilty of overwatering and hae cause probs doing so, Id like to learn how to read the plant better so I dnt do it again.

i always water around the rockwool/rapid rooter.. you don't want to soak them, just keep them moist.. the roots wont grow if they are soaked because they grow in search of water. Instead of thinking about how wet the rapid rooter should be, try to think of how dry it shouldn't be.. it should never be completely dry or crusty. when it starts to dry up.. just add like 5 or 10 milliliters of water to it until it is spongy and moist again.. you don't have to soak it. As for how the clones should look.. they should stay green for the most part. sometimes the tips begin to yellow and the lowest set of fan leaves will die off (especially if you cut them in half to stop transpiration of water from them). the slight yellowing in the tips can be due to the plant forming roots. It can also obviously be due to overfertlizing as well, but you shouldnt really be giving them more than a few hundred ppm until they are bigger and transplanted anyways to the bigger jugs. at that point you can start going up a little bit every watering until you get to 600-800 ppm. if they are already well rooted and green.. they should stay that way

2 more q's:
Do I need or can I(for electricity savings) cut back the time the clone light is on for?
and
Can my jumpstart light be put on a timmer? I know some its not ok to do.

a 24 watt light uses only about 17.28 kilowatt hours per month(30 day month). if you pay 10 cents a kilowatt hour, it only costs you $1.73 to run all month long 24 hours a day. for veg, you don't want anything lower than 18 hours of day light and 6 hours dark for optimal growth. cutting back to 18 hours a day instead of running 24 hours a day will save you 25% on the monthly running cost of your light which will save you a whopping 43 cents a month (based on 10 cents a kilowatt hour)! haha.. the point of all of that is don't expect to save much on your power bill by cutting the light back and also, just make sure you do atleast 18/6. i've always done either 20/4 or 24/0 for my clones and veg. it's personal preference really. also, yes.. you can use a timer on it.

43cents a month, thats 5.16 a yr, thats 2 gals of milk, 1.5gal of gas or a whopper combo w/cheese! Worth it! Hahaha. I guess i was more thinking about a total energy savings in the two rooms since flwrs at 12/12, if I can cut the vegg cab time down a bit and keep both rooms off during peak hrs I might feel a better about myself:lol:
