Clones take too long to root?

My growshop doesn't carry them but the thermostats are in their catalog but they are kinda expensive. I used to use a heating pad like for a sore back or whatever. Worked like a charm. When I first got the seedling mat I fried a couple of clones before I figured out it was way too hot for them. Towels work really well for keeping the heat at the right level.
 
I like the idea of putting a towel between the tray. I'll probly start over and this time I'll get a tray without holes in the bottom. Reason is then it will easy to fill 1/4 inch with water. I messed up with thinking the holes would help. It's ok that this time I just pick up pre made clones because I'm buisy learning hydroponics for my new ebb n grow setup. After this grow I'll put more focus on making a steady amount of clones ready to flower every 2months.

what are you filling the tray up with a 1/4'' of water for?
 
I read that the first week to have water in the bottom of the tray will help keep humidity as well as moister in the rockwool. ??? Not sure I do know that they should of already rooted by now so mabey next time? I still have a buitiful mom.
 
i have my heat mat on a timer so it only comes on in short bursts, i put my clones into peat-pellets then once roots show, into a RW cube then when the roots show outa the RW i transfer to soil/hydro.

im a total newb and all 7 of my clones rooted and are now healthy plants.
 
I subbed and will post some pics of my cuttings tomorrow when I decide to upload them and post them. My clones are on their 8th day tomorrow and only 1 is showing a white root tip. The rest have nothing so far... Well see lol Sup jeff :D

*EDIT* Forgot to mention I use 1.5" Rockwool cubes and a store bought cake container like what birthday cakes come in from the bakery. I spray 2 times a day with 6.0 ph'd water and it has worked perfectly for me in the past. Not sure why it's taking so long this time. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm out of practice or just forgetting something...

I never put water at the bottom of the tray and always had success lol, think about it your using a heat mat that has a tray 1/4 inch full of water. Sounds to me your making some clone stew ;-)

Theres one thing i didn't see on here, tell us YOUR cloning process, tell us every step you took from preparations to cleanup. dont wanna hear what ya learned on the vids I wanna know how you did it.

Also would like to see pictures now, spending hundreds on cloning setup you shouldn't this problem at all, so pictures plz that'll help alot of your setup and your clones
 
temps, humidity are a big factor when cloning. keep it in the mid 70's all the time with a very high humidity.
 
Damn that's all you had to do? Mabey I got air in the stem some how. ? Do you cut them under water? Not sure even how to go about that. Then I used rockwool as well but If all you had to do is spray with water two times each day? I definitly over watered. Next time I would like to try your method:-)
 
i had a bitch of a time cloning under the dome. the key is humidity and just use dip and grow my first time i got 6 out of 9 clones to root. At the same time i built a clone bucket which is different than a bubble cloner, google "lets make a clone bucket" follow the steps dont be intimidated if i built it anyone can, cost $60. I got 4 of 7 clones to root in the bucket so far but they will all root and i just use store bought filtered water and thats it. keep it warm 75 or hotter if you can very important, maintain them and leave them alone give your plants love and touch em in shit but the clones gotta be left alone.
 
I just mist mine with 2 times a day with a spray bottle and call it good. They are holding up very well as of now but honestly I think I lost my knack for cloning. I never lost a clone in the past and they were fully rooted by day 6 and 7.

I was going to upload some pictures now that I have some time but can't find my card reader... IDK wtf happened to it...

Here is how I have mine set up. Cheap cake pan, Dollar Tree spray bottle, $7 A-ok Plugs rockwool cubes (wont do that again) 6.0 PH'd water, 24" tube light, reflective windshield cover, and 22 gallon tote. Here's the pictures. I made the mistake of backing off on watering because the cubes were soaked and I figured that was the first step to root rot. I know to water twice a day now and it keeps them looking good even with a little wilt. Not sure how to cut that back. Learn from your mistakes right? lol

Ok so finaly there showing roots just over three weeks now and out of 12 I have all but two standing tall looking good. A couple have some dead leaf and I'm wondering since they took so long to show roots are they going to be strong growing plants?
 
Here is a hands free way which I am 100% with.

Solo cup
Pro Mix
saran wrap

fill the solo cup half way and moisten it very well poking holes in bottom of cup for drainage later. put your cutting in the soil after dipping in your gel or powder. Spray the insides of the cup and not the plant that much. Cover with saran or plastic wrap. Put these in your grow room not allowing the light to directly hit the clones. You will not need to touch these at all!! just glance at them daily while your in the room and you will see they have the water still dripping from the plastic wrap and you can see the green foliage (no reason to do anything at all) if you see yellow leaf and you have 3 leaves then just clip the yellow one to get more days to root. This normally takes 7-10 days but becomes foolproof. Those domes end up wilting your clones and its too much work. Try my way with a couple and you will be sold and hands free 100% in no time. After they catch root I either plant in another cup filled all the way this time with soil as they will not be covered anymore or I transplant into the pot and they are ready to go in less than 2 weeks. The warmth is the key and I am using 400w HPS in my grow room so if you are not then the warmth is the key and you need more of it. my clones are normally less then 2 feet from the 400 indirectly so they get a lot of light and warmth

wow some 4 dollar rockwool, 5 dollar cloning gel and 7 dollar humidity dome would have gave you 100 percent success rate...keep shit simple man. cut at a 45 degree angle, dip in rooting gel, place in rockwool...keep the veg lights dim...mist clones keep 90-100 percent humidity...simple

agree, but when people hear how fast cloners/bubblers root clones they NEED to clone that way :-P
