Cloning Issues

I recently tried cloning in a clone dome and lost all my clones. I was looking for some help on what I did wrong.

I cut and split the bottom of each clone them dipped them in xnutrients clone gel and placed them in rockwool. The rockwool was watered with 5.5pH to keep it moist. Misted inside the dome and allowed fresh air in daily. Yet they all died one by one and I noticed a couple had white fuzzy mold on them.

Not familiar with that light setup but try using less light. I use a single 14w CFL on an 11 site aerocloner with 100% success. I had originally bought a nice 2 bulb T5 fixture, 10k lumens...plants wilted almost immediately. Cuttings don't need to be blasted with light, a soft diffuse light is all you need. Run 24/0 if you don't already.

Everything else you're doing sounds like it should work. I'm not into rooting compounds but if that's what you want to use, it won't hurt anything. Rockwool can be a bit tricky to keep at the right moisture level but if you're monitoring it regularly and don't overwater it or let it dry out you're good, pH 5.5 is good. The mold is from keeping the humidity too high. Under softer lights and with moist cubes, you really don't need to mist or even use the dome.

Thanks! I do think it may have been too much light for them as my fixture is about 17000 lumens. I will probably be making a clone light using a vero 10 2.7K its better than a CFL as far as spectrum goes and only about 3000 lumens.

What other medium could I put the clones in beside rockwool?

Up to you on the lights, I'm not sure how much light is too much but I've found less is more with clones.

You choice of cloning medium is dependent on how you grow. If soil, you can use anything: soil, peat pellets, rapid rooters, bare root aero, rockwool, etc. For hydro, stick to rockwool, rapid rooters, or bare root aero to keep the organic stuff out of the system.

I grow in soil. Can I simply put the clones directly into soil?
I also grow in soil, and have found that attempting to clone in soil is a lil tricky at best, if you are determined to do it that way i'd suggest pure vermiculite, only issue is it becomes difficult to transplant.
after yrs and yrs of using the dome method I bough a 60 dollar ez cloner (amazon), and have had almost 100% success with using ONLY distilled water. I've lost two cuts out of maybe 40.
prior to that i'd say I had closer to a 60-75% success rate, but much longer and waaaaay more effort.
the ez cloner is almost maintenance free.
In fact I have a LOT of extra friggin plants because of my old habits of taking more cuts than I need...
if you do it this way don't put tem in soil until you have a nice "bush" of roots.. like at least 2-3 inces long, and preferably at least 15-20 "root hairs"
in other words don't transplant if you have one long solo root tendril.
Wish I went to the ez cloner yrs ago, could have saved me some strains... RIP J1, and sensi star phenos

Do you pH the distilled water?
