Cloning the top?

I just topped 4 plants. The small tops had one to three mm of stem. Decided to put cloning gel on the stem and plant them in cups just to see if any would develop roots. Anyone try this before? This was my first time topping and my first time attempting a clone. If you can call it that.

All you can do is try. Stems sound a bit short. Don’t overwater them and a dome of some kind might be helpful.

I can see it working. I’ve seen someone root a plucked fan leaf.. so I won’t doubt this til it’s tried.

Its worked fine for me the couple of times I've done it in a pinch. I also plug straight into soil.

You can root a fan leaf. Tiny cuts take longer to root, and longer to get normal growth happening again, but it's 100% do-able.

There's no reason they shouldn't root treated properly, I've personally found small shoots to root without any issue.

Using coco I'd keep it wet and have a dome over them with circa 24c.

Eta... The pots look a little dry to me, coco should be well watered but not sodden.

Rooted but didn't grow any new growth right? As far as I know that wouldn't work. If it happened I need to see it, :bigjoint:

The OP's could totally root and grow into a new plant since there's new growth.

It didn’t grow any new growth in over a months time. It got chucked.

I've cloned tops several times and actually prefer them to taking a standard cutting. The plant starts short and stocky with a thicker stem.

It’s one way to keep that symmetrical growth for sure. When I look for cuts, sometimes I look for one that has an even set of nodes. I would just top it right above that spot later on.
