run 120volts and do not get hit with customs duties when I buy from china. also no sales tax and most companies on e-bay provide free shipping. I also have a 3 bulb 2 G11 cfl https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/59543/FC55-DT5565RS.html in a 2ft by 2 ft vegging closet built on a wood frame with aluminum foil reflector. fluorescent bulbs and ballast stay cool enough that you can get away with using wood frames. i've been doing it for several years but I would not try it with HIDs you can get plusrite ballast that work on 220V but my grow closets are low power and don't need it.I live in the high desert 5000ft above sea level where the air is thin and dry. without as much CO2 the plants grow slower and need less light. 27 watts per sq/ ft works great for me but plants take about a week longer the finish. yield is good (0.7gpw) and quality is excellent.forcing plant to grow quickly like commercial growers do has a negative impact on quality

love the way the LED crowd is always trying to high jack T5 and HID threads. you won't find T5 growers trying to high jack LED threads. we are happy with our bulbs and don't feel the need to convince anyone that they work great. there is an old saying "quality sells itself" I am probably not the only T5 grower with LEDs collecting dust in his storage shed. tried them, did not like them. even 3070s, vero18s. bridgelux 45mil full spectrum's. and citizens did not impress me in side by side grows with super silver haze and northern lights.

glad to find intelligent life on RIU. :):):) in other post it seems you are one of the few growers that understand that plant don't need much deep red if they get enough violet (430nm) and blue (470nm) light.in fact they emit 660nm light as a waste product when exposed to violet light. LEDs use a lot of 650nm light because they can only produce indigo ( 450nm "royal blue") efficiently.

sure is fun to share a J with some every now and then and show em the difference 8)

Whatever works for people. I don't want to judge. I get the whole DIY COB stuff which is great. The fella with the chillin dogs loves T5 and figured out a low cost way to build them which is great.

I love these forums because you learn a lot, the people are usually very helpful and seeing people come up with unique solutions often at a real low cost is awesome. Seeing guys build cool COB setups or MauriceM doing a cool T5 bargain setup. I love it. You always learn some thing new here.

I personally like T5s/T8s and CFLs for many reasons including I hate being exposed to HPS especially metal halide. LECs are even brighter. These lights mimic the sun and I worry about skin cancer issues even with hats, sunglasses.

I have to admit that HPS is like steroids for the plants.

I dont like hids on the eyes agreed. T-5s were rec when i first started indoors.It was a university horticulturist whod rec them at the time. No real explaination.....then he passed away back in 2010 so its been study, trial and error and learning from folks here, at icmag and another site thats no longer around. I saw some hortilux t-5 bulbs being sold in a lil advert attached to hps bulb last month. Looks like a 6400 or blue-white spectrum from the little pamphlet they had in the box. Has anyone tried them. Knowing eye hortilux they are ridiculously priced lol

I grow more then I need and in my state i'm allowed to give my surplus to other MMJ patients as long as I receive no consideration in exchange. comparing home grown bud to dispensary or street bud is no different then comparing home grown tomatoes to store bought. home grown is almost always going to be better

there is an old thread here called LEDs without LEDs where people experimented with those expensive specialty bulbs but in the end the consensus seemed to be that they worked no better than the standard 6500k/3000k mix. adding a little UV near the end of flowering seems to increase THC production and the 650nm bulbs seem to produce a little more stretching than standard 3000k but it will be interesting to see the results RM3 gets with them.

SPF 2000 sun block hehehehe. I find LECs attractive and would use them in a large commercial grow. just too much heat for a closet grow.

One of the ones that only one guy mentioned on this site, so far, was induction lights. They are pricey.

There is one there with far red LED "pontoons." It looks pretty interesting but it is not cheap. I like the idea of far red LEDs for when plants are about to go to sleep. I think it supposedly mimics sunset and the plants relax before they go to sleep

induction lights never gained popularity because the are so expensive and not as efficient as T5s you can add 650 and 740 nm leds to regular T5s I have 50 660nm 3 watt leds and I have considered adding metal wings to my light to act as heatsinks for them and trying a grow with just 6500k bulbs adding 660nm leds for flowering. this kind of T5/led hybrid light has gained limited popularity in the aquarium community. 6500k work great for vegging and you only need to add a little red ( 630nm or 660nm) during flowering to instruct the plant to direct more of it's energy into flower production. 740nm need a separate timer and should be run for 10-15 minutes at lights out some people claim that this will allow a 14/10 flowering schedule giving plants 2 more hours of light a day. with far red and IR you need to be careful because if they are too close they can easily burn your girls
