I'll be running Great White Shark again :), it's a great smoke plus it was a hit with a few friends. I'll also try Moby Dick(GHS).
 
i will be cutting 4 clones of my super lemon haze and will be doing a side by side comparison, 2 dwc vs 2 coco. i have done dwc before and im comfortable with it. but i will be completely new to coco. and i will need some help from YOU guys!!:mrgreen:
ok first, it will be in a container, im using 5 gallon dwc buckets so i want to use 5 gal pots of coco. so goin of the 1st page of this thread i will be using coco coir. canna coco pro to be exact.
now my questions, do i NEED cannas nutrients?
i have GH florablend, floralicious plus, and koolbloom liquid and dry. Also have Hydrozyme and Great White. i am real low on my base micro/grow/bloom flora series, i was thinking of upgrading to the 2 part floranova series for my base nutes. will these combination of nutrients work well in coco?
i want to make this 'battle' as even as possible, if i use different nutrients for dwc and for the coco it would hardly be fair, and more money for me lol. BUT then again each warrior has its own set of weapons..... an archer would suck with a sword.... feel me? hmmm... any input fellas help me out! :mrgreen:
 
well matatan i can almost guarantee the DWC will do better than the coco but the coco may have a better taste and smoke in the long run. i personally use GH micro and bloom the entire grow, veg and bloom, with added bloom bastic which is similar to koolbloom if i remember correctly. the formula i use is the H3AD formula which is 6 ml micro and 9ml bloom through veg and up until week 6 of flower, then drop the micro and up the bloom to 12 ml if you want, i use the BB from about week 3 or 4.

I've realized that the FF soil by itself seems to retain water pretty horribly (at least in the small cups I have my plants in now). Though when I mix a 1:3 (noir and soil, respectably) it seems to retain water almost perfectly.

I'm skeptical with using Coco just because I don't own an Coco specific nutes. Though I will say the stuff works wonders at starting clones. I've had 100% success cloning in coco, wish I could say the same about cloning in soil!

I want to ask the same thing. I got 4 clones from a buddy and he used a mixture of 40% happy frog - fox farms, 40% coco coir, and 20% perlite. The clones were a little haggered when i got them and i vegged them for two weeks under a 150w hps that i had, and then transplanted them into 3gal pots of FFOF. They immediately perked up and exploded in growth immediately. They are 15 days into flower now and are doing great except some timer failures. Oh and the clones were rooted in an ez cloner and then put into the coco/soil mix.

Has anyone else had any experience with coco/soil mix? Mine is now mostly soil and has (im guessing) 5% coco now. I use 1gal of water with General Organics Nutes and have to water every other day now. I am doing a scrog method under a 600w and they are not very tall maybe 2 1/2ft tall. Before I transplanted I only watered every 5 days. I think the original mix wasn't letting enough water out and the plants were not growing much at all just staying nice and green but not growing at all and no wilting at all.

I want to switch to coco for my next grow but not sure how to do it. Does it work like soil? or is it considered more hydro? I hand feed my soil plants but for coco do i need a continual drip system or ebb n flow or what? Is there a thread that will point me in the right direction this one just talks about the different coco grades. Maybe if i read all 256 pages of this thread id figure it out.

IMO its not good to mix high levels of soil with coco as your buddys mentioned mix. happy frog contains nutes while coco doesnt and the exchange between the two could be what was causing those clones to be haggered. using a small amount of coco in a soil mix is ok since ive done a couple small coco clone transfers to soil with no bad effects, therefore your current mix should be doing good as you say. the good part about coco is that water can still be applied while the coco is wet compared to soil which will cause over watering and suffocation of the root zone. your roots before transplant were struggling to breathe and therefore couldnt grow properly. coco is similar to soil but shouldnt be treated as such. it is still a medium that isnt hydro but does require nutes every watering and more frequent watering can improve growth rate. you shouldnt let your coco dry out as you would soil before each watering(main difference between the two IMO). you can definetely hand feed your coco plants as you do with soil as many of us here in this thread do. since they like water and nutes everytime it may be less work to set up a drip system as SCROGGSY did. this thread contains a lot of information but the beginning is more of a get to know which coco is right for you. switch your max post per page # in your settings to 40 and then youll only have 62 pages which will make it easier to get through and skip what you dont need.
 
littlegrower thank you for the information! I read a lot more about it and I think I understand it a lot more. It'll be awhile before I can start on it so I'll just keep reading about it.
 
i just flushed my plants in coco. the ph was nearly 7 and was having some bad signs on the leafs. these plants are month old from seed and have been feeding canna nutes at 650PPM. plants are bushy and about 10-12" tall. at this point, would it be ok when the pot gets about half weight to restart nutes at 650? im having a hard time keeping these plants happy. PH wants to rise on me and i PH to 5.7 for every feed. i also let the mix stabalize then rePH and feed and get runnoff 10 to 20%. i took coco sample with ro water like canna says to get the real PH and they now sit at about 6ph. why is the PH climbing on me and not staying stable? i was giving them RO + calmag up to about 200PPM then adding nutes like canna chart 650PPM AnB rhiz and canazym. at the end and PH to 6.5. i wander if giving them camag every feeding was the problem? air temp humidity stays pretty solid hum at 50-65% and temps nvr above 85deg and no lower than 70deg im vegn with T5 4' 6 bulb lamp with should be sufficient for 6 plants. any help here as to whats going on would be greatly appreciated. Are you phing after you add the nutes? I noticed that you have to ph after adding the nutes because sometimes the addition of nutes changes the ph quite abit. Also I would suggest phing everytime just before watering if you mix in bulk. I am in the last week of the same program, coco and canna nutes.
 
post some pics john and that will be more helpful. drop the cal mag and see if that helps out. its ok if your PH runoff runs a bit higher but should still be around 6.

see the leaf tips curling down while the outer leafe edges curl up. some of the leaves are cupped. is the CaMag the reason my PH has been rising? calcium toxicity? i thought that i was to add CaMag with RO for everyfeeding. the local grow store says to stop feeding the camag as its not supposed to fed regularly like that. i also had burned a couple plants about 2 weeks ago from too high nutes. i flushed and continued with lower PPM. they grew right past it with nice new lush green coming out. now they are looking a little messed up. any help would be greatly appreciated. TY John
 
they look fairly healthy but your nute problem you experienced may still be causing a bit of stress on the plants. i wouldnt use calmag unless your seeing some defecencies. new growth looks healthy, just some stress but nothing to be overly worried about. keep feeding at your lower ppm and keep the PH in check as much as you can to see if this helps relieve the stress your seeing. i dont use calmag so i cant say thats the reason for rise in PH.

do you mean feed at 200PPMs or back up to 650? i know theyll be hungery by tonight at the latest tomorow.

They have the chunks an the grow blocks. i'm gonna get myself some chunks and do a side by side coco/hydroton grow w/ shaiskaberry, i'll be sure to post it here when I do.

John- if theyre gona be hungry then up them to more but gradually. from your low working up to the 650ppm after a couple waterings.
