who cares what Chavez has to say. they are just words..... follow his actions and it's easy to decide he's a troll.

The fact that he gets applause is symbolic of how corrupt the conference is.

It's nothing more than a $$$$ shakedown.

Of course Obama is in favor of it. He hates us. He hates the British as well.

obama doesn't hate anybody. and yes, it is all about $$$$....

hugo chavez speaks truth to power. he might be a little off in his rocker, but at least he doesn't blurt out lie after lie......

he did not go about preaching karl marx's doctrine. that is a blatant lie. he merely paraphrased that there is a great ghost called capitalism running amuck. he referenced it before he quoted the sign he saw outside about the banks.... to make a point. he doesn't want to impose his political beliefs on anyone, but he'll stand on that podium and make them known, with full honesty, more than can be said of certain politicians of certain past, present and future administration of the U.S.....

i saw a video in the famous 'tea-party' protests that had signs which called the president a nigger, and this and that.... i guess everybody at those protests were racists...and the purpose of those parties were to make everybody else a racist too..... it had nothing to do with health care..... right??

taking stuff out of context is a important part of spreading propaganda lies.

Not everybody rallying outside the Hopenchangein Conference were anti-Capitalists, but that is beside the point. This isn't some lone nutjob holding up one sign. The fact is they were out there, in force, supporting their Comrades inside.

the US can't cut foreign aid because all of the products sold in the us are made in 'foreign'..... let's see how well it goes for the US when it stops giving aid, and stops receiving goods in return....

i do think it's time for countries to take charge of themselves, and get development underway, the money is out there, all they have to do is entice it to come to them in the form of economic development, not in the form of aid.... it doesn't work... and isn't going to work....

this climate conference is a very serious matter, in the US it has turned into some kind of second-rate event.... the treaties or agreements that come out of this conference affect everyone in the world. as a US citizen, nobody is doing me any favors by publishing articles such as " The world erupst into applause for Chavez" while not even understanding what his speech was about.... the US is one of the largest polluters in the world, and will therefore end up paying a lot more to fix the problem than other places, it is a very big deal, with a lot of factors to consider. the media that targets conservatives is turning this into some sort of circus, when it's not, it's a serious gathering to try and make global production more sustainable... it's not about socialists, or 'climategate', or whatever else they're throwing at you. there's a lot of things at stake, and taking our attention away from what's important is just another tool the one's in power are using to stay in power.

the US should, and all of the big polluters should too.... i don't think the US should pay for any other countries, it should pay for it's own emissions reductions.....

its about sustainable production, finding a means for the world to live and be happy, but do so in a way that is SUSTAINABLE. that is one of the big things with the green movement, it helps makes production sustainable, using renewable resources, that is not happening now......

i don't agree with the whole taxing carbon, or cap and trade, i explained why in another forum here...i can do it again if you wish..... i used to agree with it because of my principles, but the way in it proposes the change to be carried out is unfeasible.

i'm more concerned with the global perception of the US.... as much as you hate obama, he said in his victory speech that the US is a beacon of light and hope for the rest of the world, i like to think of the country in this fashion, and I would hope you do too....

but when a world leader, one that has a lot of stage presence, one that for some reason a lot of people listen to, stands on stage during a global conference and calls the US and other wealthy nations the "imperial dictatorship" and the whole room erupts with applause....... it's a scary situation.... we are not an imperial dictatorship, this is the land of the free, where i can be a staunch atheist one day, a religious fanatic the next, swing from one political ideal to the next without fear of repercussions from the government or elsewhere, this is the nation others strive to be, yet the global community is seeing us as oppressors, even while we hand out billions and billions of dollars in aid, help struggling countries, and serve as the home of the most important financial centers on earth.... this country should not be perceived as a dictatorship, empire, yet it is... and it bothers me that a lot of people here don't care, they care more about there being applause for chavez, during a speech which he said marx twice, than what the implications of that applause really are.... like it or not we are all on the same boat, it's called earth, and it seems to me the world doesn't see the US in the same light anymore, when it should.....

i don't know if you understand my concern, it's kind of hard to put into words..... we are looking at the unimportant and making it important, while the reality of the situation flashes before our very eyes, and we stand there, looking at it, oblivious..........

it's gonna create a market where there wasn't one before.... prices will fluctuate in such a way that it's gonna make planning and forecasting growth for short-term and long-term goals nearly impossible.... i talked to a friend who's in the forecasting field... he handles statistical models, cost-benefit calculations, trend analysis, demand management, etc... and all of these lead to creating budgets.... corporations seem to be a lot more successful when they can accurately determine future growth, develop a budget to sustain that growth, and stick to budget.... it will be extremely difficult for companies to stick to their budgets if the law passes.... it is now about to be 2010... companies have already created budgets for the years ending Dec 2015..... a lot of these companies (my friend's employers is included, a multinational company that manufactures all sorts of different goods all over the world) are not gonna be able to rely on their current projections as accurate.... it might not seem like a big deal, but financial planning goes on for years in advance of product launches, and setup of production lines..... all of that would be fruitless and a lot more money would be wasted, in addition to the additional expenses they would have to incur every year to get the carbon-credits.... it's just not gonna work... i agree with the principle, not with how they want to carry it out.... just like i agreed with the purpose of no child left behind act, yet i am a staunch opponent of how it is being carried out.........

the way to achieve it is not to obligate or MAKE a company go green with regulation, but to entice moving in that direction by rewarding them with tax-credits, and a method to capitalize the huge expenses they will incur to go green.... and them allow them to slowly amortize the expenses over time...similar to amortizing a long-term debt, or the process of depletion in cases of natural resources...... this method also provides for abuse, since companies will just try to allocate as much of their costs to this "green account" and will try to amortize them over time instead of reporting them when incurred..... there's no 'perfect' way of doing it, and yes, it will cost money... but it is the only way to ensure sustainability... i'm sure companies would much rather see themselves enticed into going green by some sort of rewarding mechanism, instead of having the green movement shoved down their throat by means of regulation......

medicare is in trouble because when it was conceived the government believed that the population would keep increasing, just as it had been doing....

demographics show a different story.... baby boomers, are 60+ million strong... the following generations are around 20 million, and 30 million respectively, with this generation, generation Y I believe it's called, is 60 million strong again.....

it has to do with inaccurate demographic projections, rather than a fault within the system itself..... if the projections of demographic growth would've been accurate, medicare would still be a success....

i don't believe there is any way to accurately predict how males and females are going to procreate.... although it has been shown that catastrophes lead to greater procreation... like in a country that gets devistated by a hurricane, there's gonna be a greater number of births the next year..... i guess it's because the only good thing to do when everything went to shit is to have sex..... hehe....

anyways, back to subject....

if the US wants to get its way in the world, because that's what all americans want, regardless of political orientation, there needs to be a sense that the US is the leader, innovator, not the oppressor.... our big economy and big military are worthless if every nation begins to turn on us because there is a sense that the US is only good for defending the US.. (even if it's true, you don't want others to believe that!!)... and chavez might be censored here at home, but his speech was well broadcast, and repeated accross multiple mediums abroad.... it's kind of eye-opening how the perception of the US has changed over the years.... and without finger-pointing i don't necessarily believe obama bowing down to anyone has much to do with it....
