About the angle aluminum, I guess whoever has the best price locally. Pretty common item and probably not worth the price to ship.
Aluminum is crazy expensive at Lowes/Home Depot. Aluminum extrusions should only be $3-4.00 lb for small qty. For large qty it’s 1.5-2.00 $/lb. Google metal distributors in your area, Metal Supermarkets etc. Aluminum has a density of .1, so thickness x width x length x .1 = weight. ¼” x 2” x 12” flat bar weighs .6 lbs/ft. If its angle say 1 ½” x 1 ½” x 1/8 it’s basically the same weight as a 1/8” x 2 7/8” flat bar (1 ½” + 1 ½” = 3 less the thickness 1/8”).

If you want a 90 deg square corner on the inside of your profile (angles) it’s called architectural type, typically 6063-t5. Structural has a radius fillet (for strength) and is typically 6061-t6 but you won’t be able to fit against anything due to the inside rounded corner. I was at home depot today, they had a 1 ½” x 1 ½” x 1/8” angle x 36”. I think the price was around 45.00 cdn = 35.00 US Funds and it only weighs 1.25 lbs …… what rip off. I mentioned in a previous post to buy utility grade( any 3000 or 5000 series aluminum) if you’re buying sheet or plate up to ¼” thick, it’s half the price of 6061.

We shipped Growmau his kits so hopefully lots of videos imminent, he is using 80/20 rails. We did not consider sending alu rails as it would have added freight cost that would have been silly relative to your ease of buying alu locally and cheap. We want to add value where possible not cost
Cheers

Brunner enterprises sells square aluminum tubing and all the connectors to assemble a nice rail system. they are out of new york, brunnerent.com , one of the guys on this led forum (from netherlands) , did a 12 cob passive heatsink thread using tubing , very nice alternative

I think all the prices are inexpensive. Sure building a massive 12 cob light will add up but I just spent nearly 3k for 2 pieces of shit kind leds before I found out about this site. 2880 sale price, 90% of the places sell them for 3400 a pair. Sending the junk back going with lec's for now and researching the shit out of DIY cobs as supplemental or side lighting. The info here and on YouTube is fabulous. Great work

if youre gonna do sidelighting just skip the lecs and do a cob array
I'm limited on time, finishing a batch before I send my junk back and the local shop has the lec's in stock. I have (3) 3x3 flood tables I'm doing the 4 lec's over. Hopefully when I learn enough to jump into cobs I can do 2&2 then use the left over lec for veg

Would the cx6 be enough for a 3.5x3.5? Hate to spend the money on 4 when I'm a diy'er with everything besides lighting due to my little knowledge. I wonder if they would be better than the 315lec. I don't know enough about them yet. They sound impressive, 60% efficient low wattage draw high par watts

Hey billy. I'm absorbing as much info as possible off of these smart folks. Check out the pacific light concepts cx300. I'm keep changing my mind but I might ditch the lec's and buy 3 of them and then build some of my own when I feel more confident.

Check out growmau5 in YouTube. He doesn't know it yet but he has been my god for the past few days. The efficiency of these cobs compared to other lights are insane. I wish knew how efficient the cheap ass Chinese epistar kind LEDs are from kind.

don't waste yer $$ on them

Just to compare. I have a friend who is still convinced they are the cats ass. I would have continued to as well if I didn't end up here.

Some part of me wishes I didn't learn about cobs cause I'm telling you I'm addicted to learning it all.

I wasted $$ on Mars2 I Did gro some killer smoke with my Mars but would have done just as well with HPS
with the same heat & power use issues IE; they work but not anywhere near as good as the cobs do
