Death in the Devil's Chair

I was just roaming the net looking at all things FLA. I stumbled on this and it made me incredibly mad and then quite sad. Sad because how can a person do this to a human being?

When I was a kid a neighbors boy, he was 16, was killed (murdered) by the county sheriff. We all knew it. Some how he was able to hang himself in the county lock up with his belt. Belt? Really?

You would think that an older man would be given some kind of better treatment. This is just sickening. Some day these poor excuse for policemen will run up against a Hatfield and McCoy kinda family and they will take care of everyone.

Here's the article.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/11/jail-abuse-nick-christie-pepper-spray-florida_n_1192412.html

When he left his home in Ohio to visit his brother in Fort Myers, Fla. in March 2009, Nick Christie was already breaking down, physically and mentally. His wife Joyce was concerned about his well-being. Rightly so. By the end of the month, the grandfather of two, whose only prior run-in with the law was a DUI in the 1980s, would be strapped to a restraining chair in the Lee County, Fla. jail, coated with a thick layer of pepper spray, smothered in a "spit hood," then finally taken to a Florida hospital where, two days later, he would die.
Christie, 62, a retired boilermaker, suffered from heart disease as well as emphysema, the latter the likely result of his former smoking habit and years of exposure to asbestos. A bout with diverticulitis had forced him to cancel a fishing trip the year before, and he slipped into a depression after he was hospitalized for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a condition that further constricted his breathing.

How would you feel if it was your loved one? This is just so inhumane. No one should have to die like this.

I hope that the sick bastard that did this never has a moments rest and that late in the darkest hours of the night that the images of what he did haunts him-endlessly.

The guy was already restrained, pepper spraying him after should be considered torture and the officers should be charged for it.

RIP Nick Christie, goes on vacation, and gets a permanent vacation from people who were supposed to serve and protect ..

2.4 Police officers shall take no action knowing it will violate the constitutional rights of any person.

2.5 Police officers must obey lawful orders, but must refuse to obey any orders the officer knows would require the officer to commit an illegal act. If in doubt as to the clarity of an order, the officer shall, if feasible, request the issuing officer to clarify the order. An officer refusing to obey an order shall be required to justify his or her actions.

What a travesty. I hope they get some kind of justice. Those cops should be put to death. If anyone did this to my loved ones and fucked my life up like that I would hunt them down and cut them up into pieces.

And cops wonder what it is they do that puts their lives in danger? How about fucking with people who don't deserve it?!? If you abuse the innocent and non-violent, of course people will take up arms against you, that's basic tyranny.

The officers should be CHARGED??????? I disagree wholeheartedly! They should be fucking restrained, stripped naked with a "spit mask", and then pepper sprayed themselves! This is unbelievable! The people who are supposed to protect us are now torturing and killing people? I want to know why they took the man to jail in the first place? The wife called because he wasn't himself! Why didn't they take him to the hospital when she told them he was sick? Unforgiveable! This makes me want to turn the Lee County Sheriff's office into the Oklahoma City Federal Building........a pile of rubble!

lol!

Thanks bro, I smoked a bowl and calmed down a bit. Still, this type of shit just boggles my mind! I've seen shit that brings me to tears, nightmares.......this sort of thing, I cannot abide. How does another human treat another human in this fashion? And without any REAL provocation? He was an OLD MAN with emphysema! And nobody will ever answer for it! Not much gets me worked up these days but when I see a civil servant torturing people, murdering people, ignoring the oath they took and completely throwing honor out the window!!!.......it ENRAGES ME!!!!!:cuss:

If it were my loved one, someone would have to answer..........

I feel better now. Thanks for letting me vent. :leaf:

What I don't get is why. What was the point, the benefit, the expected outcome of mistreating a guy who had as much to do with the "war on terror" as a stray pup.
I hope Mrs. Christie is introduced to the most weapons-grade attorneys in the land. Happy Jailer Protective Industries (or whoever) needs to be publicly and messily disassembled, using the very system they tried to co-opt. Doc111, I sympathize with your desire to charge in firing broadsides, but imo subtlety is indicated. Take'm down using the very system they've contracted to serve. cn

That's just it! There is NO POINT! This is inhumane, it's sociopathic, it's utterly nightmarish to think something like this can be perpetrated by those who have sworn to uphold the Constitution and protect and serve the people!

Normally I would agree that subtlety is indicated, however, these people are protected by their brethren AND by the courts in a lot of cases. It becomes difficult, if not impossible, to exact some sort of justice. These sorts of things are becoming far too commonplace, especially in a supposedly "civilized" society. Maybe we are just more aware of it thanks to the fact that everyone has a video camera and a means to spread that content to the world within seconds! Either way, it's unacceptable, and something should be done to the perpetrators of such horrendous acts.:fire:

didn't the police just pepper spray people who were sitting down on the ground at one of those occupy thingys in front of a million cell phone cameras? if i'm not mistaken a really old lady got sprayed in the face on purpose.

what really frosts my ass is the fact that EVERY fucking time this happens the police chief or whoever comes out and backs the cops, citing "appropriate use of force".
using weapons on people who are sitting down? that's appropriate. someone died? clearly appropriate. and you obviously can't punish someone for "appropriate use of force".

the only way this is going to change is if we the people take the time and money to make sure that every single fucking bit of bullshit is caught on video and spread all over the world. that's really it. there is no other way to make it happen. it needs to be turned into a hot button issue that will make or break a politician and force them to take sides and/or lose votes. every time one of these police brutality vids hits the air people are shaking their fists for days, but then it dies down. let's make it so it can't die down. shit i'll keep us going for months just with shit i film from my living room window lol.
