defoliation question..... anyone familiar with it?

I decided to read your link and found this in it.

And it's true that some types of defoliation are brutal to the plants (such as when misguided growers removing all the leaves off extremely young marijuana plants),

Don't know if you missed this bit
my ladies are 60 days old... does that count as to young?

Good for you OP. The defoliation topic can start some nasty discussions. My hats off to you for just doing it, to find out for yourself. Peace!!

thats exactly why i did it.. just wanted to find out for myself. if its true than yeah me, and us. if the world is flat like they say it is, well i guess i will just fall off it... till next grow.. hey i got two months out of life for mental enrichment.. you miss one hundred percent of the shots you dont take- wayne gretzsky

to a degree yes its only doing half its job, they also store food for later on in flower so ripping them all out isnt a great idea.

you have to admit there are some that disagree with you

These were defoliated a couple weeks ago after the initial stretch was done. They seem to have plenty of leaves and buds too. They're pretty much exactly halfway through flower now.

4 plants. The two in the back and the one on the right-front = G13 Haze. Front-left = Green Crack.

dude you really didnt just try to some shit from youtube did you? hahaha oh my god im not gonna watch it but you can do some research and figure out leaves also store energy im not gonna sit here and argue about it.
dont just go to youtube for your knowledge, if you look up how to make BHO on there youll probably make really bad shit, but thats youtube for ya. so read a book, grab a kindle, ah who fuckin knows how people can learn valid facts anymore, half the internets bullshit sometimes too so im not blaming you for your ignorance.

those gals look real healthy PJ, the whole plants gettin plenty of light too, that defoliation done right.

topping causes them to put out even more leaves and the stress caused by removing the top stunts them for about 3-5 days depending on the vigor of your plant, best thing id say you can do is tie em down and let the nodes get exposed, this way you can get some new branches going and not have only one cola(cause if it gets damaged then you wont have any other bud sites to fall back on) or a bunch of small colas that dont mature due to their distance from the light. if you want them to finish evenly all bud spots must be about the same distance from the light. i didnt get to finish training the first one completely but the plan was to go all the way around the pot, either way all the bud sites matured evenly.

How can you stunt a plant for 3 to 5 days, when topping extra veg time is needed if fact its a must for super cropping to. As the point of defoliation is to get bigger buds and bigger yeilds. I've adopted these techniques for exactly these reasons and my plants speak for themselves.

To the starter of the thread, sorry if you thought I was being funny your plant looked young, I think your doing a great job learning new things to many people stuck in their ways to learn

That depends on your growing style. In a 12/12 from rooted clone SOG system, topping is the last thing you want.

that too, not to mention youll probably have more need to defoliate since it bushes out, your inner nodes wont get any exposure and youll be left with branches in the shadows leeching energy away from the real producers and very little air flow inside of the bush(chances for mold, overlooked deficiencies/infestations). since you also have an uneven canopy youll be left with popcorn nugs that wont mature nearly as much as the buds that are above it, so youll have to let those bottom nugs run another week or two to get them to bulk up, id much rather harvest the whole plant in one day.

Yeah if your auto flowering i'd say no go on topping, was talkin veg sir where it doesnt matter too much

Lots of growers practice the SOG style wthn NON-autoflower strains. Topping vs non-topping is highly strain dependent. Some strains really don't need to be topper due to their amazing branching genetics. with some strains, you can actually lose yield by topping.

SOG clone from 12/12 could be a lollipop style or supercropping or none, depending on strain and genetics.

Agreed sir only topped mine cuz it was mainly one large cola from what my friend said so i decided why not 2 big colas

If I top a plant it needs time to recover and grow new shoots, it is also said that hormones are re-distributed to other branches so they think they are the top branch.
If I super crop a branch the knuckle needs time to repair itself, the reason I'm super cropping is it spreads my plant out but also, it is said to allow more uptake and by looking at the knuckles that form and the bumps up the stem I can see how it makes sense. Now for me this produces a very very bushy plant with dozens of main tops and because of the long veg time I still have a plant a foot tall come time to flip. With a strain that stretches x2 the plant is not stunted at all.

This thread has inspired me and I defoliated far more than I normally would, let's see what happens

i just flipped my ladies yesterday, and DE-leafed them on Wednesday , and they have already pretty much grew new fan leaves to provide more than enough shaed... now i wasnt going to pluck them again untill after stretch, but it seams like they needed a plucking now.... what do you think??

Not again!!!!!!!!!!

Minus 5 for being so stupid and another minus five for repeating the same god damn topic and not doing a frickin' search first!!!!!
