Dehumidifier For 5x5

Need to get my humidity down in my tent... needed a humidifier when they were seedlings with rh of 30 and now that’s there are 9 and they are bigger and I am having a steady rh of 75 or so during the day And around 90 at Night after I water... lots of airflow I have a Vivosun 440 CFm exhausting on full 24/7 with two vivosun oscillating fans on the plants all the time to..I don’t have an in-line fan cause I figured I would be fine with the air just coming in... I have a 6 inch ac infinity fan thst I was gonna use for my next grow... I’m in a basement btw.. do I need a humidifier for the whole basement??

In Canada, yes most likely you'll need one for the entire basement.

So I went and bought a 40 pint cause it was only 150 it’s a bionaire. I’ve just got it in the basement but I checked my rh in the basement and it’s actually at like 50-60 so should I am I gonna need to put this dehumidifier right in the tent?? Or should I hook up my ac infinity as an in-line fan so I can get that less humid air in the tent faster? My rh is still at 85 tongiht so it’s been like this for over a week at least now

I’m just worried if the dehumidifier is in the actual tent that the air is gonna be getting cycled through the tent to fast for the dehumidifier to work. I haven’t tried this yet though so I’d appreciated some input

This is an interesting thread, im sitting in a similar situation although im in my garage. The humidity in my suburb according to google is around 75% and my garage isnt insulated so its basically sitting outside lol and the floor is concrete. Im also extracting lots of air and im sitting at max humidity of 67% currently in veg. However when it comes to flowering it will need to be reduced drastically.

I would imagine putting the dehumidifier next to your tent where the passive intake holes are would make a good difference although i dont know anything about this. We need some experienced bois to comment lol. Otherwise you need a big enough tent to fit the dehumidifier unit inside

Dont mean to hijack the thread but i feel this is a relevant question to both of us - With plenty of airflow from an inline extractor, as well as monitoring the temps to be appropriate (59F low to 80F high) and making sure no condensation collects on the leaves or inside of the tent. Would this still be sufficient even if it says the humidity is above 60% on a hygrometer?

If you have the space you could frame up a small room around your tent and cover it with plastic. Then put your DH in there so that you are not having to lower humidity of whole basement. Im not sure if this is what they call a "lung room" but seems like it would be a lot easier to control.

Also is your exhaust going to outside; or just dumping back into the room?

No worries! But ya I’m not sure I got the window closed in the basement now and I’m gonna see if the dehumidifier running all night just in the basement works to lower it. Also tommroow I’m gonna hook up that in-line fan so I can get some air in my tent faster.. if that doesn’t work I’ll have to try it inside.

I’m just exhausting into the basement currently.

And I might be able to hang some Polly around it and make some sort of room. That’s worst case hopefully lol. It’s sitting at 81 rh rifht now with the light off. I should probably water earlier in the day to it’s just hard with work.

The basement humidity has gotten to 45 but the tent is still at 80 even with the exhaust on full.. this seems to confirm my suspicion that I just need to add the ac infinity as an in-line fan.

If you push air from inside your house out a window, that air has to be replaced in the house. If its really humid outside, this will not fix your problem. Also if it is really hot or cold outside, your HVAC will have to work a lot harder.

Just run the dehumidifier in the room the tent exhausts air into and everything should be good. (this means you will need to use the 6'' fan to exhaust air out of the tent)

Everything will be much better once you do this. Tents need a constant supply of fresh air.

That is what he is already doing from what I understand.

The reason I suggested this, is because he said with his new DH in the basement, the reading in the basement itself is 45%.

The tent itself is never getting below that, because as his plants transpire and generate more humidity, he is just dumping it into the same room, I am going to guess right outside the tent, and creating a microclimate of that humidity getting pushed up in the air and dropping right back around the intake.

If he built a small lung room around the tent, put the DH in there, and exhausted outside the lung room (or preferably outside the house to get rid of the excess moisture), would be the real solution.

I got the rh in the tent to a steady 65 with the lights on now just with the dh in the basement and the vents on the tent open. I’m gonna exhaust it outside in the next bit here but for now I figure I’m ok. Also gonna set that in-line fan up to bring that 45 rh from the basement into the tent faster for when I flower.
