Day 23

Well, today ended up being water day.. they hadn't been watered since Tuesday afternoon, so it had been 4 days since they'd been watered.. They were'nt even that droopy this morning right before the lights went out.. I guess that may become a gauge as far as when to water... When they're not drooping before lights out = water time...

I kicked around giving another 1/4 strength or 1/2 strength dose of Grow Big, but decided against... I def. will be using it on the following watering though... I used 2 gallons of water, distilled, tested at a pH around 6.9... Run off tested at 6.7..

The two smaller, problem plants (from day 3 or 4), show no signs of wanting to fully regenerate from the MG nute burn.. Their top leaves are green, but show small yellow spots, while the bottom leaves continue to die/yellow/dry up... They've been somewhat shunned from the light, giving way for more rays for the 4 bigger, healthier plants.. I'm still giving those 2 a few days to see if they are going to make it... If not, i'll prolly ditch them so the other 4 can continue to soak in more rays...

My other 4 beauties are all in good health.. Two show some signs of nute burn from the MG on their bottom set of leaves.. Hasn't progressed to the rest of the plant, so i'm hoping it will stay that way... After the 2 gallon watering
(total), I gave them all a good misting (top and bottom sides of leaves)... Kicked the fan up a notch as they seem to be pretty strong and could probably use more breeze than the low setting it was on...

Updates to come 2mor... maybe a few pics.. Got a macro telescope lens that i've been using for up close shots, unfortunantly, nothing of that quality/zoom w/ the camera phone.. I'm noticing small sets (2) of leaves forming where the branches meet the main stem... Still trying to get a confirmation as to what this is... Preflowering or what...

Question..... can you foliar feed the same time as a normal watering??? Just wondering... If it's recommended, i'd foliar feed w/ Grow Big same day I water w/ Grow Big... ??

Day 24

Plants took very well to the watering yesterday, very perky this morning..

I believe they are getting close to showing their sex for me.. If i had to guess at this point, i'd say out of the 4 big healthy plants, 2 are female and 2 are male... but i could be wrong.. The two biggest plants are forming 7 blade leaves at this point... The 2 problem plants, that have been somewhat shunned from the light... show no signs of wanting to make a comeback.. Hate to pitch them as they are still hanging in there, but it may have to be done...

Correct me if i'm wrong but I read that pre flowers/sign of sex show at the 4th node.. My two biggest babies are forming their 7th node now and both look the same at their 4th node.. I see the "stipule" growing out of the stem at the 4th node.. as well as what looks like the female characteristics forming at that node.. As i said, i could be wrong, unfortunantly i have no pics..

If they are going to show sex before flower, i'm guessing it may have something to do w/ them being under the HPS light for their 2nd two weeks of veg growth..

Fortunantly, winter is on it's way and that helps out as far as possible bug infestations and temperature.. After 18 hours of light being on, temperature was standing at 76 degrees, w/ a humidity of 50%...

Should enter flowering stage on Friday, which will put these babies at around a month old.. I'm not as concerned as some about yield totals, so i will start w/ 1 month of veg, see what the total yield is per plant, and go from there.. Being somewhat new to the indoor growing thing, i'd probably be better working w/ some smaller plants on the first go, rather than working w/ some 5 or 6 foot monster... lol...

Day 25

Well, i'm pretty sure the healthy 4 plants I have are in it for the long haul... Their stem is beefing up quite nicely and they're pushing out their 6th, 7th, or 8th node... Had to raise the lights up an inch or two.. They seem to really take off when they're around 12 inches from the 250watt hps.. i've had them around 10 inches for 1/2 a day or so and that seems to work even better, just afraid of some heat burn...

Only problem i see w/ these is one is really getting massive and may have some issues holding itself up... I may have to tie it down in a few places or support it w/ something.. I know this babies have a huge root ball (from repot last week), so i'm really hesitant to stick anything in the soil...

I'll take some pics of the two problem plants when lights go back on this afternoon.. Maybe someone could offer some suggestions..

If they can make it to the flowering stage, i will keep them going, in case they turn out female...

I'll be getting a 100x magnifying scope today... I'm still 3 days away from starting to flower, but I want to have this item in place ASAP...

You could probably top it... or just put an elasic band around the pot and tie down to that. I used large paper clips and just unfolded them until it was just a hook and long part and looped on end over the stock and stuck the other end into the dirt. Then when it was long enough to get to the outer rim. I had soft enough pots I could poke the paper clip right through the plastic pot.

You'll love it. Super cool to check out stoned too. LOL

yeah, it's awesome!!!

I don't know if i'm gonna be able to go til Friday w/ these babies.. All of a sudden they all have taken a huge growth spurt!! The 2 plants I thought were dieing are showing some really nice leaves on their new nodes.. The 4 healthy plants have just exploded since watering 2 days ago... No droopy leaves whatso-ever, and no new damage on leaves..

I'll get some pics up in the morning.. If they have as much growth overnight tonight as they did last night, I may just go on ahead and go 12/12 2mor... We shall see... Things are getting exciting for sure... And as far as I can see (x100 magnification), i'm 100% bug free..

I think i'm going to switch to 12/12 cycle 2mor... Plants are around a foot tall, and i'm not attempting any topping, fimming, or LST this time as i want to get a good feel for how it grows normally under an indoor lighting environment..

I'll have to double check when lights come back on, but i believe the four healthy plants are on their 7th or 8th node... two grew taller from the beginning and seem a bit more slender.. two are a little shorter and bushier.. Leading me to my guess that 2 are female and 2 are male... The two problem plants, it's a tossup...

I will take some pics when lights come back on and maybe i can get some advice from someone...

ok here's the pics... can't get up close inside the plant, camera gets pretty blurry... 2 other plants look just like this one and another is just a bit smaller...

does this look bad, normal, good for 26 days indoors?

Should i flower now?

Day 27

forgot to post daily update yesterday.. Anyways, they are almost a month old now and look very healthy IMO...

The inner foliage is started to fill out, leading me to believe i'm at the point I could flower if i wanted to.. I'll be watering them today, w/ another dose of Grow Big mixed in.. Probably go for a tsp per gallon this time as they seem to be taking the previous dose (1/2 tsp) well w/ no signs of nute burn... I would wait another week or two, but w/ it going under the HPS two weeks ago, i think it's ready to go...

This is just all so new to me... I'm used to either (A) throwing some seeds outside and checking a month or so later or (B) Starting some seeds inside and potting them outside after a week or so and checking a month or so later as well... I haven't really been around the plant so much, being able to see all it's growth day to day is pretty remarkable.. Only downside is sometimes it seems like they aren't growing, especially if you look at them multiple times a day.. lol

Anyone reading this, please look at pic i posted yesterday... Would i be alright to flower now? They're about a foot tall, w/ an inch or so of stem under the soil from the last repot... I can grow them to about 4 feet tall in my closet, so i'm thinking at a foot or a foot 1/2, they need to start flowering...

They look very very healthy. by the time it hits folwering it should be nearly 6 weeks old... So I would say yes. I'm inpressed with the litle ol 250 watter your doing a great job. I'm my eyes anyways. I wish we could get some others to post in your journal.

Yeah, i know i guess it's because of my lack of pics... who knows..

I posted another thread earlier and got a few responses, so in the end i've decided to begin flowering 2mor, at 28 days or 4 weeks...

@ 7:30am 2mor they will start the 12/12 cycle... :lol::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf:

Perfect, that will roughly be 6 weeks before it switches to veg. Should double to triple its current size. I post my important questions as new threads and reference my grow journal. I find I get much more help that way. I also think its a big thing with the pics. My wife when on vacation and took the camera for 2 weeks and I nearly lost everyone following my grow. LOL. I just want to follow a 250W HPS grow. I use 1000w and only want to grow smaller plants in a smaller space and want to see how it goes for you. I think I will go with either a 400 or 600 set up with digital ballast.

Yeah.. a nice new camera phone will be available for future grows if this one goes all well...

the 250 watt hps really seems to work, but I will say it probably can only light four 3 gallon pots.. it's hard to situate 6 3 gallon pots underneath the light.. Once they start showing sex, i'm expecting atleast 1-2 males so that will cut down on the plants inside the room... In the next week or so I will be looking for some side lighting (cfl's probably)...

i kind of jumped the gun on the 250 watt hps though... I didn't intend on moving the grow to a different location.. Ventilation ended up being a lot easier in this area... In the future, i'll probably look to add another 250 watt hps or a 400 watt hps...

Day 28

Ok, lights just switched off at 7:30am... i turned the timer on for 12/12... unfortunantly i will only be able to tend to them early in the morning or late at night, but I didn't want to interrupt their normal lights off schedule... Plus, during the day is better to have the lights off as there are times when nobody is here...

Watering yesterday w/ 1/2-3/4 teaspoon of Grow Big doesn't seem to have done any harm... Leaves grew in size overnight and starting to get a pretty skunk smell.. Carbon Filter is next on the list, lol...

So, sirsmoks...

1) Do you personally water before lights off or after lights on??

2) Should I go for 24 hours of darkness before turing lights back on? I've got 11 hours or so to decide on this..

thx....

I dont find watering any time to be bad but most guys say to do it when lights come on. I just went to the earliest I could switch my lights on. I extended lights off by 6 hours. I have the same problem with 12/12 I only get to see them 10 mins before I go to work then
15-20mins when I get home depending on how fast I drive:bigjoint:

i know, that part might be kind of hard to adjust to at first.. 6 hours of darkness was hard enough as is.. lol..

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what time will work the best.. I'd rather the lights be on when i'm at the house almost 100% of the time... 7:30 pm to 7:30 am seems like it will work the best...

I can get up early in the morning, 5-6am and have an hour or two to see them w/ lights on.. as well as when lights go on at 7:30pm, i'll have a few hours before i goto bed to water, feed, whatever...

If i did 24 hours of dark (starting this morning at 7:30am), then my light cycle would be reversed.. lights would be on from 7:30am to 7:30pm, which i absolutely do not want... Only way to stay on the cycle i'm on would be to just do 12 inital hours of dark, or 36 hours of dark.. i don't really want to do 36 hours, so i guess i'm pretty stuck at this point...
