That's a good start----would like it to be with an electric button set-up---maybe run a motor to an fade switch or something---going to have to spend some time on the idea.

Been doing a little research-not really any products out there---Thinking about a small 120v motor---a rail-------a long run wired switch that would connect to a small box that could be mounted to a remote wall(up/down switch in box)---some thoughts are that it would need to have solid metal gears and some kind of switch that would either stop the drive or switch it to reverse once the mechanism got to the top---thinking about a garage door opener switch--push button---I might have to take a trip to Lowe's or home depot and look at there small single door garage openers to get some ideas----If you have some idea crazy or not please fell free to post----want to get some brain juices flowing here...

AC motors don't really reverse. Swapping the leads won't work. It needs to be done internally. Think DC.
Gearing will be tough to get the mesh right. Chains/sprocket are easier, but noisier.

I like the drill idea. Though would use a cordless screwdriver, much smaller.
Then just use a DPDT switch (with a center off) wired to the battery, hose clamp holding down the trigger and presto! Could add in upper and lower switches and it would be automatic.
(having a machine shop in the garage I'd go crazy, but the block and tackle work fne for me.)

Double pole double throw. With a center off position (3 total) gives you a forward, reverse and center off. (should have 6 pins/conections on it)
