DIY with Quantum Boards

I think the 60 watt $29 boards no heat sinks are a Great deal, just buy a driver plug and play all day. You're barely noticed them on your electric bill. I'm grabbing 1/4K and 3/3500K for a 3x3!
I'd be very interested to see a multi-QB120 set-up used as main lighting. Four running at max could really do some damage, I would think. Are you going to attach them to some sort of DIY fixture? That's what I'd like to do - I'd much rather have only one hanger to deal with instead of four.

Thanks both @619kt619 and @pop22 for your replies!

I'll see what spectrums they have available when the kits come out, I don't know if they will have the 3500k option or just either 3000k or 4000k.

From what I have been reading, and correct me if I'm wrong @pop22 even though having more red with 3000k Is good because the plant does a good job making photosinthesys at that wavelength, the 3500k is slightly better since it has more blue and blue provides a higher amount of photons.

Anyways, I think I wont be dissapointed with either option but I wanted to make an educated choice
I've run 3500K 80CRI Cree CXB3590 chips and I'm very pleased with growth and frost performance, FWIW.

hey robin i have 1 last question i am going to purchase the 260 w kit but is there any way i can get 2 separate single heatsinks instead of the double 1 i want to space it out a bit.

K, I just pulled the trigger on a 4000k QB120 (Molex connector). Any recommendations on an affordable driver? I only need enough juice for the one board right now, but at a later date I may try grabbing three more and an HLG-240H-C2100B so I can find out how these boards perform through a full grow cycle. Or am I crazy to think about flowering under four of these puppies?

Quantum update :

Looks like the heatwave has GTFO of here .. Finally . But I brought some hurt on my a couple of my girls thru over feed. My screw up I should have lightened up a bit , and my 2¢ - you will notice that plants really don't have to be fed as regularly as say HID grows but more like LED ( about 30% less ) . I was able to catch it but , need to just space it out and drop ppm . Live and learn.

Anyways ... BLUE GLUE is stacking up , leaves are wonky from over feed but nugs are densing up. Since she is a Sativa I got time to recover my error. Fragrant and starting to flop so I gotta string up.

She is doing ok ... By the fading of leaves on her terms , so I just water her ( 6.0 HEMPY ) and monitor. The 3000k is working fabulously with zero complaints.

Here is the KOMAKUSH- I haven't shown her for a bit but she's looking like a star.
Another Sativa heavy strain , she has weeks to go and is probably the most perfumed of my plants ... Spicy and kind of earthy .

And one more thing ( for the plant nerds ) ....

New seedling had the top shoot die off ....BUT .... Plant still going.
Should I pull and trash it or let those teeny tiny side shoots try to come in ?

I got plenty of beans , so putting a boot on it is not out of the question. I'm not sure what happened but plant still looks pretty good ...I misted her With a mild Clonex ( liquid ) spray to help her keep growing and stimulate the roots..... Just asking ......

HLG has been very helpful and offered to check everything for me if I ship it back. I had one last thought after looking at the 550 fixture they make. could the 2qb 120 be wired like this?

It looks like it just broke off. Could be good genetics... Totally up to you.

Yeah it shriveled up but main stalk still green and looking ok ... I did see some very tiny side shoots , I guess it topped itself.

It's not taking up any room so I guess i will see if it will grow out ... If not then a size 11 boot to it thru the goalposts ..... Thanks for reply.

I have a 550 but is 4x304 boards, same thing. You could lower your boards a little bit IMO. What distance do you have your lights at? They Look Great! Nice set Up No Doubt:bigjoint::clap:
I am on the fence about a 550. we already have been testing with the 260w kit and I see the potential however I am not sure they will be a fit for our growing style. we grow small tree like plants which is great with de hps however can that be translated using the 550 being it has to be ran so close.

What are your yields per watt and sq ft? Are you vegging a couple months? What's the strain?
Strains vary, one was a Star Killa, another was Sonic Screwdriver, forget the third.

Veg was 3 months, each trellis is 24 sq ft, a lil less than .8gpw, due to big plant size. The aim was fewest large plants in small space, had stem count constraints.

Also like cxb3590 at 3000k with arcadia d3 + 12% UV light . Nice and frosty !!!!!

Checkout YouTube search quantum boards and look for led growlights depot video they have a video testing coverage and ppfd

Okay, guys, tell me if I'm on the wrong track here; in my noobness, I don't have the know-how to answer the question for myself.

So I posted my idea of creating a main flowering light out of 4 QB120s, run at 60w each, for a 240w fixture. Sounds like a decent amount of power, right? But I know that wattage isn't everything, especially with LEDs, and I'm wondering if it would lack sufficient penetration? I would imagine the difference in efficacy between 4 boards run at 60w each and 2 boards running at 130w each could be significant? Something tells me I may be barking up the wrong tree.

Drop some knowledge on me, folks!
