I do have a black mesh tarp (harbor freight) that i could use as a shade. To tell you truth, I think the plants enjoy the heat. With 100 gallon pots and monitoring the soil moisture (meter). I haven't had any heat stress issues with my plants now or in the past. with exception of late transplants. I generally transplant late april and the temps are usually 70-80'sF

I have found that as long as my root zone stays cool( my smart pots are on the ground in former lawn), the more water/dry events that happens in a set amount of time the faster the plants grow. I have found that keeping the soil moist all the time does not increase vigor of the plants at any time, except seedling stage. Although I do heat stress my seedlings by not watering for about a week after the initial water when the seeds are planted. Whatever seeds pop up are keeper phenos.
I preffer to have the roots dry faster with more frequent waterings, my prefferences,
No way is 100 degree heat good for the plant, especially with direct radisbt sun, it's just a little to hot,.
In the places I have been (such as Trinity county , lake county, tahima county the temps get hot during the day, really bad , the buds tend to stretch and develop spikes is what I call them,
It doesn't hurt the bud or the production, but does effect the look and appearance of the bud, the bud and the plant will stretch more to disapate the heat.
Of you were not there to tend your plants on a frequent basis or did not water everyday ,especially concerning the high heat levels mulching around the base will help the plant retain water, by as much as 75% ,
Raised beds tend to not evaporate as much as smart pots,
I need to shut up or I will write a book.

IMG_3260.JPG IMG_3259.JPG IMG_3258.JPG Here is a shot of the platinum cookie (PC) and the overall garden. I tried germinating 5, only two popped out of the soil and this only one stuck in the soil. That was end of May. Since then, this little one has made it along so far with not much assistance, even with the white fly invasion. I have just started topping and super cropping her. She is picking up speed as the days warm up and i hope it will be a big producer. The grower i got them from said these are his main producers for indoor, so I hope it will get big before the season is over. I have a Bag more of these seeds and i hope this year will help me decide what seeds i want to run next year.

The PEC seeds have run out. This is the last year i will run them. They were a hardy plants and heavy producers, easy to manage but, not crazy potent. The SD is new this year and so far are some LARGE plants. If both SD and PC are good i will for sure run them again. possibly with a larger 300 to 500 gallon root zone..

Trinity county , lake county, tahima county
We are down in the valley..I have cousins up there. Lots of them. :weed:

I will look into some shading before pre flower starts up. This should help me with bud density. I am also looking into using Raw Honey to finish the plants this year.

Basically your beneficial bacteria colony,
This bacteria colony should be established as soon as possible in the soil , then the bacteria colony should be fed with carbs to maintain the colony ,
The feeding schedule is different for outdoor plants then indoor as the sun makes the plant uptake nutrients differently then bulbs .
Most growers (outdoor ) in mendacino and humbolt county areas pump the plant heavy with N ( what I mean by heavy is a N rating or around 10, through the first parts of spring and summer)
They will run a PPM of around 500 ,
When they get to bloom season's( the first of August to the end of September to the middle of October , they cut the N back to almost nothing and push P and K on them,
Never hitting them strong , no more then 800 ppm.
Up untill the first of August you are in the vefatative phase,
The first two weeks of August are the transition phase , after that it is development up till two weeks before finish ,is the finishing stage
This has generally been my game plan. I introduce a two part AACT as soon as the soil in mixed around January. Getting that soil alive ASAP. Is a huge priority that i think about months in advance.

There are so many industrial grow ops going up that i should get in with consulting and grow monitoring..

A lot of places get started and then go out of business, piles of places for sale, a pile more to be for sale soon.
I seen one place in Washington that was for sale, a million dollar operations,
Well anyhow they make these places buy their plants from the state and behold the plants the state made them buy had mites and wiped out their first crop.
They went broke needless to say.
That's just one such example .

A bit cooler today as the forecast said. I was ready with some AACT and plain water with a bit of coconut water and aloe juice. I will give it another week until the next feeding. The soil is drying out faster and faster. The plants are looking great! I just feed, trim, water over-and-over-again. I have the drippers on extra long today. I like to drippers better than the soaker. It seems i loose less water to run off and evaporation this way and less erosion to my top soil layer. I just have to leave them on a long time and make sure they are evenly soaking each root zone. Some times i move to drippers around a bit to cover areas more evenly. A simple soil moisture meter works great. Just have to be careful as they don't take to much abuse.

The water flow seems to be slowing down on my RO filter. I have a replacement ready. I think i will try back-flushing it first on to the roses or something.

Kind of a lazy day. I have some merchandise and business card coming in. I have to visit some motocross tracks and races soon to promote my business. If the hats com out nice I'm ready to buy some stickers and hand them out all together. I'm hoping or some intent form the local community. I feel very optimistic about his next project and I hope it brings me as much joy as gardening and wrenching does.

Everyone's gardens look great! Keep up the good work!

Here are a couple overall pics of the garden. They are getting bigger and bigger everyday. I ordered a 10x30 shade tarp that i can pull over the hoops between noon till the afternoon. The weather report says it is going to be high 90's all month. I need to find a suitable mulch if the pots dry up faster than a week. I will probably go with alfalfa since i can find it on the side of the road here. IMG_3288.JPGIMG_3289.JPG

Make sure no chemicals or pesticides are on that Alfalfa

The plants seem to be doing good. The temps are hold in the high 90's still waiting on my shaded tarp. The soil seems to be holding the moisture well. I really don't want to be watering are than once a week. I need to get some mulch.

Damn beautiful!
Thanks buddy!

I took some soil moisture samples and decided to wait until tomorrow for the feeding. The plants will be very thirsty by tomorrow morning! I have a AACT ready to be mixed with nutrient tonight, I will let it brew and begin soaking and feeding early.
The plants have stretched several inches over the past few days. As soon as the shade comes in we will toss it up. The plants still have until the end of the month before the daylight hours start to wain. I will be ready and begin to decrease veg nutrient and ramp up flower nutrient. I have been reading about whether or not to top. I top every plant always, until later in veg when the plant stops responding, I stop topping well before flower begins.
I applied more DE today and moved some unused planters away from the main pots. I need to weed whack back the grass again.
I was thinking about mulching, but since the canopies nearly cover almost all of the top soil during the day and my grow strategy needs to run a bit on the dryer side because of pests, I don't think i will mulch this year. Too risky.
I was toying with the idea of some EM. I'm going to wash some rice and start today. Hopefully by next feeding after this it will be ready. I know it can be stored. I don't think my wife will let me keep it in the fridge for a week--if at all!
Some plants are coming close to touching. One plant in particular is very vigorous. I hope i will be able to get a clone of this and one other one that i really like. I might try some pollen chucking in the off season to see if i can get some back crossed seeds.

I did a bit of seed sorting today. I have a good sized box of garden variety heirloom vegetables seeds, i have been breeding over the past 5 years, along with a decent sized zip lock bag of Named and dated Cannabis seeds. I have a load of Purple elephant kush seeds that look like they have turned dark and are no longer any good. I think I was lucky to get the last remaining plants out of them this year. I Have picked up a number of new stains. Some OG Kush, Girls Scout Cookie strains and a Sour Diesel strain. The SD is a great plant putting on lots of of growth each day. I think it would do even better with 300 gallon pots.. I was able to get one Platinum Cookie to stick this year. I hope next year the the PC seeds I have will do well.
I am always on the hunt for new seeds. I have a pretty good eye for spotting healthy ones. And I get good results almost every time.

I picture from today. The plants have started to slow down stretching thanks to the 60% shade. They are about 4.5 feet tall over all and about 6 ft at the widest. They will probably put on another foot in height and width before the end of the season. All the soil moisture tests from this afternoon looked as predicted. The Shade has been slowing down the evaporation by keeping soil temps down. Below the surface, temps are cool. The next watering might be a total drench. I want to make sure the roots are getting to the edge of the fabric. I am not in fear of root binding. I might try to roll down the fabric to see if i can scope any roots as the posts dry into next week. I planning on watering on Wednesday. If i feed then, it will be the last dose of pure grow veg nutrient. I plan on stepping down the nitrogen in favor of Bloom formula beginning before the end of the month. I looked at the local day light hours for confirmation. Things seem to be going great. IMG_3351.JPG

I trimmed about 6 inches of of the top of my largest plant last night. The center hasn't grown in as well as the outside. It hasn't made it much past the net. I want to bring it up in the center before it begins flower. All of the rest of the plants are symmetrical. I am at the end of topping for this season.

I checked the soil and it is still on track for feeding on Wednesday. I will add a cup or two EWC to the brew new later today a long with a bit more molasses. The plants need a good trimming from the bottom. Along with some final shaping. I need to remove any growth that didn't make it to the canopy as it won't amount to much in flower.

I also started a LAB about two days ago. I was looking into EM1 as it includes yeast and Photosynthetic microbes. Has anyone found that adding yeast or algae to your LAB promotes it's effectiveness? I know that many Organic liquid nutrients are created by using EM. Has anyone identified those types of microbes?
