Do dispensaries still take overages?

Hey Michiganders. I just got back into growing after a long break. 5 years ago I was able to sell my medical overages to dispensaries in Detroit and people on weed maps. Now that I had a couple of good sized harvests I'm trying to unload some of it and am finding that the only people on weed maps are the big outfits that were able to obtain recreational licenses. I was told by them that they only buy from licensed grow facilities. Where does that leave us little guys? I've got top shelf I'm willing to let go of for 1,600 but I can't find any buyers!!!! My dad said what I just harvested was way better then what he got from the dispensaries and he said they are charging 300 an oz!! What gives?! Anyone else having similar issues?

It’s not really an issue as much as the way it is nowadays. Luckily the grey/black market is booming due the the lack of quality at most stores in Michigan, not to mention high prices.
You likely get double what you want if you get creative and network little here and there.

That's good to hear! Thanks for your insight.

It would be nice if we lived in a free country where we could sell our homegrown bud wherever we want, but the truth is, few to none legal dispensaries will buy blackmarket bud anymore. The markets are so flooded with cheap legal, licensed product, why would they risk their business, their livelihood, and potentially their freedom to buy a LB here and there at a slight discount? You will have better luck working your way up the greasy black market food chain until you find a small time distributor. Hey it sucks man, I'd love to see cannabis cooperatives for small scale growers spring up and offer them a market to sell their homegrown, but these state laws are mostly designed to keep small scale growers out of it.

Yeah actually I had a dude back when I was growing 5 years ago that pretty much bought all of it and then he had all sorts of contacts, even contacts out of state. Then when something happened to him I put a bunch of equipment up for sale and the guy that purchased my 3 mini split units purchased the last 20 off of me. Believe it or not he's still in the industry five years later but he has a pole barn full of product that he needs to move. I know a couple people that have 20+ light setups but they've got so much stuff that they need to get rid of themselves. I'm going to close down shop at my one location and sit what I have until I meet the right people. It's good to hear from other Michigan growers that there's a market for quality still. I appreciate the replies.

It used to be legal for medical growers to sell overages. When michigan legalized that part got tossed out so dispensaries had to buy from a licensed grower. It's a money thing. Big money to be a licensed grower in michigan. Medical growers are almost gone. The rules are real bad. A person can be a grower for 5 people so can have a total of 72 plants but can only have a total of 2 oz of usable cannabis for each patient.

So what are the rules if someone else grows for others .. If those 5 patients asked one person to grow their cannabis for them, and the maximum those people get are 2 oz. per person per year or harvest ?? If the growers has a harvest every 8 weeks all year long it looks like worth the effort.
