Do I need far red during veg

I know blue is the colour you want in veg with a little bit of green if I’m not mistaken and red/far red is for flower but do I need the red spectrum during veg? Also if anyone does have a designated veg light for a 4x4 I’d be interested to hear your results with your suggestions.

Far Red Light has an effect on the rate of photosynthesis. The wole explaination is rather technical (meaning I forgot!) - but much more important, in my humble opinion, is that Far Red Light can and does produce "The Emerson Effect". I will define it breifely, but you should google it to get the whole story.

"The Emerson Effect" is the result of Far Red Light being the last thing a plant "sees" before sunset, this simulates late afternoon / early evening conditions. To make a long story short; this makes the plant "go to sleep" faster. That may not sound too impressive but what it boils down to is - since less time is required to "sleep" (Lights Off), more time is available for Lights On.

I have never actually used this method myself, but I would imagine that an hour or two of extra Light would come in handy!

Got to be careful not to mix up between FR/sleep initiation and the Emerson Effect.
Maybe repost with with correction to read, " The Emerson Effect" Sleep initiation is the result of Far Red Light being the last thing a plant "sees" before sunset,......

Another important point, since the original poster is talking about a light for veg, is etoliation/shade-avoidance that will occur with too much Far Red or low lighting levels.

To get a general idea of how much blue, green, red and far red is available in white leds have a look at the attached image.Typical Color Spectra.jpg

5700° Kelvin white leds have more blue and less red, and 3000° Kelvin white leds have less blue and more red than the 5700°K.
If you head on over to the led sub forum (here) you will see a few using 4000°K for dedicated veg, but most are 3000°K/3500°K from seed/cutting to harvest.
You could refine the search results more.

Ffs :wall:

Have you even bought anything yet?

One min you’re asking if it’s possible to get 2lbs in a 4x4

the next min about nodes and topping.

the next minute about BEST lights

The Next minute about something else.

OPEN ONE FUCKING THREAD AND STAY WITH ONE AND ASK ALL THE FUCKING QUESTIONS IN ONE THREAD!

NEWBIE CENTRAL forum have you been there yet?

have you read online about plant training for artificial lighting?

Have you read about nutrient control tracking EC and PH for hydro etc?

Just go and fucking read something.

Or better yet.

Buy a setup and start a journal and ask for help as you go but please for the love of GOD stop posting a new thread every fucking 10 mins.

Ahhhh so if I have a light that has red I should put it on red an hour or two before I let them go sleep.

This is pointless if you haven’t even grown anything yet.

Buy a light that is in the 3000-5000k range

Buy some seeds.

buy a tent/fan/carbon filter/pots/medium/nutrients/oscillating fans/timer contactor relay.

Grow some plants.

Learn from it

Grow some more plants.

learn from that

Grow some more.

then some more and then guess what

Grow some more.

If you searched your own started threads since last July 2020.

you’d see most of your pointless questions this time around have already been answered in abundance.

Even your

Is a 60x60x78 tent a 5ft x 5ft ffs.

You’ve been flirting with the idea of growing for over a year.

now this leads me to believe you are just trolling or completely stupid to not have retained any of the helpful information you were given over 12 months ago.

people even linked you to lights and nutrients back then.

advised you that dry amendments in coco was gonna be a pain to keep for a newbie.
