Do i take seedlings out of humidity dome after they break ground?

just got 3 seedlings under a 23w cfl, gonna use a 400w hps soon, just took off the dome cause my amnesia and shaman high where almost touching the dome, the white widdow seed just got out but i didnt have any choice since it would burn.
im guessing a dome isnt required if it gets enough water, i hope so, or else im screwed :'(

:peace::weed: I have a new plant, it's about a week old. I have it in my tent now and in it's permanent container under the lights. my temperature is about 80° and my humidity is only about 30 percent. should I get a humidifier?

I always hold off until the third set of leaves before putting under the big lights. A simple CFL works fine till then. Mist the floor for cheap humidity

Cool. I thought of misting the floor but thought I might be screwing up doing that. Glad to hear I can do that. But, will I have to do that all through the day? I did put a bowl of water in my tent?

Can someone please tell me that once the seedlings have popped should I still keep them in the propagator with the lid on and put them under lights or is it time to remove the lid for good? Thank you.

This is an old thread, but never use domes on seedlings, just on clones. The reason is that it creates a 100% rh environment that is perfect for damping off to occur. Damping off is a death sentence. If this is a new term, here is the internet definition:

damp·ing-off
noun
  1. a plant disease occurring in excessively damp conditions, in particular the collapse and death of young seedlings as a result of a fungal infection.

Thank you Bugeye. I have read so many contradictory methods I'm ready to pull my hair out. I have them in my dome now but they haven't yet sprouted. The info with the pack said to keep them in there until 20-30mm mm high and then transplant to the medium but until they reach that height should I use my lights with the lid on or off?

There is no need to dome them. But sometimes you have to lose a crop to really appreciate this. :bigjoint:

I keep a dome and light on until they sprout and emerge.. Then I remove the dome.. Keeps humidity up for germination then remove to keep from damping off..

You my freind havent got a clue what the ivention of a dome was for. If you think it was designed for just cuttings you are far from wrong

What were they invented and designed for? I've never used one for seeds with no issues ever. Maybe I got lucky.

I plant only autos and use a small dome and then plastic wrap over the top of the bucket after planting the seed in a 5gal bucket. I do this mostly so I can actually see the condensation on the lid and use it as a gauge of when to re-moisten the area around where I planted (with rain water). I've noticed that the two layers seem to act like a double pane window and keep the inside dome where the seed is around the same temp as the medium (which sits in the room for a day or so before planting) Once I see the plant come up I remove the dome and use the plastic wrap (loosely) until the plant gets close to hitting it to visibly gauge moisture. No nutes for two weeks in my room. Have four 24w T5's a couple of feet above and a 1000w HPS on the other side of the 4x8 room. In two weeks I'll move them to the veg room. System seems to work so far.

Germination start time- 10/17 @ 12pm Seeds popped and started sprouting way faster than anticipated this time (first sight of sprout 2 days ago)and still under the dome unvented and total darkness in rockwool cubes..one seedling looks to be maybe a couple inches I know too much moisture for too long can cause some mold issues and t-5s are good for seedlings but I can’t get back home to them until later tomorrow... I’ve seen different opinions regarding duration of seedlings under the dome but just seeing if anyone has some more feedback on the subject?73E2FB8D-0031-4339-B117-31F4FFCEDB90.png

Me too...no dome for seedlings. It's a clone thing mostly. What's a common cause for seedling death? Damping off which is a fungal infection of the stem. Fungi love humidity...enough said.
