Do you think we're in the middle of a 'new age of enlightenment'?

We absolutely are in an enlightenment age. Look at the advances of technology just in the past 50 years, it's incredible how much technology has advanced and also (very) scary at the same time. The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty, and all forms of life.
So technology makes us enlightened? Shoot I better stop wasting my time on meditation....

We have more toys, not tools, if people were more concerned with making apps and the like that actually did something instead of spying on your ex, that may be something....cliche I know but, 1984 anyone?

We have knowledge, but few are applying it, and of those few there are even fewer who are doing it for the benefit of mankind.

...look at the damages done by science being misused. It ranges from people using phones and apps to get away with sht - all the way to war. I'm not saying tech is bad, I happen to love it - but not to harm with.

The fact that you are alive and not dead from polio should be proof enough of the advancement we have made. Technology has made life better for everyone. It does far more good than harm.

i dont know about you but what i seem to experience is : same shit different day. there's slight variations but its pretty much mostly bullshit with a bunch of zombie clowns. i change myself. others change themselves. it may or may not happen. everything is about adjustment. i suppose in history there are times when large collectives of individuals all re-adjust for survival purposes and thats considered an elightenment. but there have always been solo individuals doing their thing too. the more people access information rather than entertainment - and sources of reliable information are made available - yes there will be a higher population of eggheads with propeller hats walking around each generation. but take a small glimpse of popular multimedia - and the people around you in any city(if u are in the usa) and you will see ignorance is still very, very popular. it is broadcast via television and the trashy genre of magazines.

Lol, and those dummies are quickly losing steam!

Dumb arguments coupled with elderly audiences aren't taken seriously in any arena in the real world these days, and the taboo to 'respect your elders' regarding any dumb shit they happen to say is being broken day by day. The old "grandma grew up in a racist time, so it's OK she thinks the delivery boy will rape her and steal her shit" argument is being turned into "times have changed.. get the fuck with it you old racist bitch", as they should be.

Ignorance should be called out in every avenue, passes are no longer being handed out due to old age or a blood connection. Young people are realizing the liberty of other people, even though they may not know or be related to them, is more important than some old, racist, assholes sensibilities.
As usual said with grace and tact.

Thats funny you say that, look right in front of you. What is that?... A computer! One of the most significant inventions ever. Even though the computer was not invented in the last 50 years, its the ADVANCES in technology that made them available to the masses.

And you said energy? haha! Look at all the alternative fuels and new innovative ways of creating energy we have. Just take a look at cars for example. We have cars now that run on the sun, water, hydrogen, electricity, ethanol (fuel made from corn!), they even have cars that run off VEGETABLES. Drop in some vegetables into a tank and you can drive your fricken car. Incredible.
Cars still have hydrocarbon-burning piston engines, and the top-mileage models have actually given up as much ground as they gained. You could buy a 50mpg car in the 60s. You're describing serial tiny increments imo, but the Age of Big Moves seems behind us. The fuel options you describe were known for over a century. cn
