Ever been to a National Park? Kruger National Park is real nice.
Are you against the concept of any sort of ownership? If you are not, then I submit that instead of being owned by a group of individuals, the resources would be owned by a single individual and probably destroyed like most of the redwoods were.

Your statement is internally inconsistent.
Your assumption that government can only represent a 'certain group of individuals' is false on its face.
The issue of our times is that We the People have allowed the functioning of our government to be commandeered by a relative free with deep pockets and vested interest to operate it and the resources it controls in their interest, as opposed to the interest of the Common Good.

Meh. If those resources are at least partly confined in the country and the government is freely elected they should. Because in theory that is just an extension on the peoples will and all benefit and detriment belong to those citizens

Mining company's do, all the mining company has to do is pay the government for a lease (oh an few sneaky underhanded payments/donations to lube the way). Then they can do whatever fuck they want.
Ever heard of a blanket lease. A mining company can blanket lease 1000's of square miles/km and own mineral rights to everything. preventing any small prospecter/fossicer to legally touch anything of value.
