Dogs > Cats

Dogs are cool if they have one of those collars that shock the shit out of them if they bark, barking is so fucking annoying. I also hate how many dogs piss themselves when they get excited.
shock collars are for the lazy, weak willed owner. see my comment about sloppy breeding for the dogs that get too excited an pee --hard for them to pee themselves since they don't wear pants, or they SHOULDN'T

sitting in your own pee is different than peeing from excitement. and no, i'm claiming that psychological instabilities have been bred into canines by jackasses who were only interested in aesthetics. muts by definition are not bred, but rather the product of unregulated dog fucking. if all there had ever been were mutts, then we wouldn't have a lot of the fucked up issues that in-breeding for "purebreeds" causes.

btw, there are plenty of people who sit in their own pee, from the golden shower fetishers to babies, to geriatrics so if we're going to rule out species for coolness based on that, we have to give the ax to ourselves...

great video of the noble dog, obediently respecting his master's rules about not killing the cat no matter what, and the evil, selfish, horrible megalomaniacal cat stealing what is not his for the sheer joy of doing wrong.

seriously though, that white dog dragging the bed around with the cat in it (:44ish) is hysterical and i have to admit, the ones where the two look to be getting along are kinda sweet.

we covered this already. dog tongues kill harmful bacteria so by the time they're licking your face, you're good to go
i tend to lick my ass too, so i've not really got much to worry about with my dog licking hers and kissing me. i also brush her teeth, she's got some fresh, minty breath.. :D

You're mistaken, dog saliva only kills some germs. I guess you don't mind the shit, as long as it's "sterile"?

the evidence in this thread leads me to believe my initial assertion was absolutely correct. Dogs are way cooler, better, more loving, companionable, friendly, and badass than any cat.
I have always hated cats but when i started teaching undergraduates i think it solidified my hatred: cats are walking egos. undergrads are walking, fragile, insecure egos. undergrads are like the worst version of cats.

yep, i'm pretty baked i guess :p

totally agree. You have to train a dog in a way it understands (pack mentality) not with a lazy tool like a shock collar. In fact, I learned that some of the way I was showing affection to our dog (petting him when he was scared, or unsure, and petting him on the muzzle) sent confusing messages to him. Petting or trying to soothe a dog who is barking or overexcited for example actually reinforces that state of mind, doesn't calm it. Also, submissive dogs in a pack tend to "groom" other dominant dogs around the muzzle area, reinforcing their role as the "lesser" dog. When you understand more about what motivates an domestic animal, you are better equipped to teach it.

Except for cats. You can understand them all you want. They still do whatever the F**K they want. LOL. But Dr. J20 I respect your dislike of cats. I get it. I'm not a crazy cat lady. The very reason people hate cats is the reason I find them interesting.

So many dogs are left home all day while their owners work, only to be let out in the "backyard" when the people come home. Dogs need mental stimulation just like people. When our border collie was getting into a destructive behavior pattern (digging, hyper) it was because his mind wasn't being engaged. We have lots of land and horses and I thought this was enough. It wasn't. I began actually walking him on a leash every day and later we did agility together once a week. Behavior went away.

The reason IMO 99% of dogs are ill-behaved is due to their owner. Doesn't matter the size or breed, all dogs need to be mentally engaged. Or else they have this energy that they don't know what to do with and hence the nipping, jumping up on people, aggressiveness, etc.

Okay baked rant over...

ETA: Oh and another totally annoying trend: Dogs are not your f'ing kids. They are dogs. Stop dressing them, and packing them around shopping malls..
