whats more fun than getting fucked up in a field at a festival with all your friends and other like minded people... im sorry you cant have no more :-(

You're dealing in absolutes. You're seeing things in black and white. And you're being closed minded. You are delusional to say for a fact that one thing is more fun than the other.

Yeah I know it is possible to have fun without getting smashed and seeing live DJs with loads of wreckheads.. its just so much fun, banter and random missons!, but for me it is the most fun in the world! Got back from Nozstock last night was amazing! More american people need to come to UK parties/festivals ha

good for you man, on a recent lsd trip i felt like i wanted to change something in my life. then i thought the easiest and best way to change my life would be to get rid of one of the biggest parts of my life. after some more reflection i realized it wasn't the substances, but rather all the time i have on my hands right now, which makes me want to trip so much, i just get sick of thinking about it so much! so i made changes accordingly! which includes more moderation. but one thing i dont think i will be able to stop is a bowl here and there throughout the day :).
damn, i wouldve sold my glass instead of smashing it. probably felt good though.

I like to not think of it as retiring but rather a hiatus. Good vibes and best wishes for where ever the long road takes you, i'm sure will meet eventually.

man phelpsy, i don't know what to say..but you already know that i think your one of the good ones left in the world.. take a break if need be, i know i have taken a few years off in the past when need be.. if it feels right, i'm sure it is, no one can say whether or not what you're doing is right or wrong, only you..
and for those flaming him, come on now, grow up.. do your honestly think that life revolves around drugs?? that's a sad way to look at the world.. there's soooo much shit in this world to see and enjoy, no need to be high 100% of the time to do so.. having to be stoned all of the time is a really immature thing to say.. nothing wrong with it, but don't put some one down for wanting to move on and experience new things sober..
don't know what else to say mp, keep in touch though..

What's with the naysayers? It's not like he came back a bible thumper telling us about our eternal damnation. "Drugs" are a tool. When you can't live without them, you're the tool.

Good luck and thanks for the direction on meditation. I've been skimming the surface but it's hard to focus when things are so unsettled.

Don't be a stranger, it would be a loss for the HS.

Isn't one of the key values of meditation balance? I do not understand how you plan on finding a balance between meditation and real life if you could not find one between drugs and real life. Sounds like you are just trading one vice for the next, be it blazing, meditation, sex, video games, or whatever, if you are doing that shit for hours each day, its all simply escapism.
Now will excuse me while I bang my girl, smoke a bowl, and play xbox until the sun comes up.

Not trying to diss, just something for you to reflect on.

Peace

Well, hopefully he's just found that balance.

The word "escapism" is being used way too much these day. First of all, what's the definition of escapism? " habitual diversion of the mind to purely imaginative activity or entertainment as an escape from reality or routine". Is his meditation habitual? Perhaps. But it doesn't matter. Is meditation purely imaginative or entertainment? Absolutely not. Just as psychoactive drugs, meditation is a tool. And don't even get me started on the reality part. Reality is relative. When talking about psychadelics, the word "escapism" hardly has any merit. What's the purpose of that word? Does it have a positive or negative connotation? And if so, who cares? There are multiple realities. Who cares which one you "escape" to? Whatever brings you happiness is what's "real".

So no, it's not all simply "escapism". It's life my friend. It's living.

Probably better off staying clean. You don't want the press catching you ripping the bong again and ruining your swimming career. Go for the gold Phelps!

I have officially decided to retire myself from the world of psychoactive substances, weed included.

Had somewhat of a break down last night and flushed EVERYTHING down the toilet.. Weed and all. Put my entire glass collection in in a garbage bag and smashed it to pieces... Im fucking done.

Im sick of feeling the need to "expand" my mind in order of finding value in my life...

I can still appreciate the value that psychoactive compounds can bring to some people, i am just no longer one of those people. I am to the point where all i need is my mind and a blank canvas to unleash my creativity on...

Some of you might think im ridiculous or dumb, blah blah blah. I dont care, this is what's best for me!

I still might be around occasionally to weigh my input on certain factors but dont count on it..

Much love to you all... The Subway Crew Most of all... Even the subway crew that never put the logo in your avatar... You know who you are ;)

Maybe when you are in a place when you can apply more balance, you could return.

These tools should never be the focus of our lives.

I'm surprised....

Somehow this all reminds me of "the wave speach" in Fear and Loathing...

"So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark —that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back."

...What? That is one long half-question full of horrible grammar about how you don't understand the definition of the word "escapism", yet you quote the very simple to understand definition of the word. So, there's that.

Substituting (what is fair to assume was) habitual smoking for habitual meditation isn't really improving yourself. I also don't think that drastically altering your lifestyle, and smashing your possessions is a good first step to balance in your life. That was all I was trying to say. He wouldn't have posted it on the freaking internet if he didn't want feedback.

I wished Mr. Phelps all the best. My post was positive, and my intentions were to give him something to think about in his quest for harmony, that was very clear. You just kinda come off sounding like a condescending doucher, so, there's that too.

For the most part i live a fairly balanced life. I dont use meditation as filler for the need to do drugs, and in no way shape or form is it a vice for me. Its not that i need to meditate, but that i want to meditate. Balance may be part of meditation but it's def not everything, personally i do it for reason's of bettering myself. Essentially for starting habits of viewing the glass as half full rather then half empty. Right now i feel like my life is off balanced in a way where i feel like my life revolves around drugs. If it wasn't for self awareness and meditation i may have never realized this...

Quit smoking cigs 4 months ago to... Couldnt find a balance in that either lol.

Sure one can live a balanced life with drugs, some cant. For the moment i am having a hard time finding a happy medium. As ANC says maybe someday in the future if i feel balanced and the urge to toke a bowl or eat some L i may. But if i dont i am completely fine with it.

Hope you had fun banging your girl lol.

That's the thing... I am not substituing herb for meditation whatsoever. I have meditated on a daily basis for close to a year now... No way am i meditating 5-6 times a day either... Just generally once in the morning when i wake up or once before i go to bed.

Like i said i dont need to meditate, i want to.
