I only ask because the only plants I've lost due to pathogens were old plants.
When young and healthy, the full range of genetic potential is carried to scion, but in older plants that old "Genetic Drift" raises it's head (which is actually genetic damage due to pests, pathogens, or mistreatment.)
I am aware of plants near 20 years old that a friend has, but I would not attempt it myself. I am not impressed with what they become - tired and generic, if not carefully tended,
