I have to say for myself, dry ice kief works for me.
A few zips of aged bud (>6 months) that, unfortunately, dried out too much.
A 160 micron 1 gallon bag.
A pound of dry ice.
A little shake, rattle, and roll...
...and viola!
Roughly 7 grams of easy to smoke kief... And that was the first shake. Another 4.4 g from a second shake, and 4.6g from a third shake.
Admittedly, the second and third shakes are greener than the first, but IMO it's similar to smoking unsifted bud.
Packed about 0.2g of the third shake into a bowl, took 2 nice tokes and was comfortably buzzed for a good couple hours.
I don't claim to be a hash connoisseur, and I'll defer to the expertise of Frenchy over my own experiments, but like I said, dry ice works for me.
Tried the ice water method once. It was a better tasting, better smoking hash for the most part, but it took a lot longer and was way messier.
Unfortunately, and the reason I do prefer the dry ice method, that batch of ice water hash was not properly dried before storing and it got moldy.
It was a small batch but...4g's of tasty hash, wasted.
Those 'heavy duty' tumblers look nice. (may have to build a mini version for the fun of it)
