Drying and curing in this summer heat

Agreed there! But if not properly dried and cured what ever you put into the plant really doesn't matter!

Are the parts greater than the whole or the whole greater than the parts


I like to cure for at least 15 days. Jarred and burped daily for roughly 30-45 minutes.

Towards days 12-15 I tend to leave the jar closed for these days and play it by ear if more curing is needed!

Personally I have found much better results by not putting it in to wet but to dry it to where it should be before going on to any cure.

Much safer to dry it a bit longer than not enough. Ive seen guys lose 2lbs by putting dense nugs they thought were done in too quick.

My rule of thumb to test if bud is dry enough to bag/jar or cure, is to grab a branch that has been drying, and "flick" the smaller buds in the opposite direction of how they are hanging. If the bud falls off with ease it is ready, if it is still pliable, wait another day or so and try again. I have never had that hay smell regardless of how long the dry but the real art is in the cure. IMO

Each strain is different and contains varying amounts of saturation.
When buds are snapping/fraying from the bend throw them in the preferred container.
From there, learn strain characteristics and cure by aroma, keep it simple.
Overtime distinguishing the difference in scent/touch of cured/not cured will become second nature.

Have you ever dried in desert heat? It's very hard. I have a humidifier, grow tent, and a good exhaust. However, I also have a heat wave and no humidity.

I'm at day 3 of drying. Humidifier is running 24 hours a day to keep the humidity at 50%. I've got my temperature down to 82 f with a bucket of ice and a fan blowing on it.

My top are drying fast. I'm going to trim and paper bag the tops today. I'll leave the seconds to dry a little more. This year, I hope to purchase a small portable AC.

I live in the Mojave Desert and I did not use A/C in my house, just a swamp cooler. Anyway I'd either build a Koolatron (there's a thread on this site) or I'd do what I finally did and bought a Freeze Dryer. Best grow improvement I've made.

Here is Mexico, electricity is very expensive and rare where I live in the mountains. But I think a small AC is definitely needed from my summer grows. However, tell me more about the Koolatron.
