Bagada, your aquarium pump idea seems a bit overkill for inoculation purposes only, as you would basically be turning your DWC into a RDWC in doing so. I believe you might have the wrong idea, Heisenberg isn't saying to put the lava rocks in the netpot, just down in the rez somewhere where it's always submerged in water. This becomes the constant housing for the beneficials which would then jump to the roots. As a general principle, you do not want the water line always touching the net pot. Keeping it below the netpot prevents your substrate from getting overly saturated and spawning mold around the crown, but the most important reason to do this is because the roots need air to breathe, and airstones provide very little O2 in comparison. I like the pic!Saw this and made me think of this thread.
I was wondering if you can use aqairium external pumps that pump the water through a tray that you can put subtrates in that add beneficials to the water and supply a place for them to live. would the be better than just using lava rocks in the net pot? the reason is because i heard that it is better to have the water level lower to allow arial roots and prevent mold at the stem. but in order to make a place for bacteria to colonize you would need to keep the water always touching the net. Im thinking the FLUVAL filters are cheap and effective.
