dwc setup

i want to build a deep water culture setup that is big enough to house 4 plants about 3 foot tall. I plan to keep these under veg full time as mother plants to cut clones from. I have had thoughts of using a large tupperware tub that is 4ft long - 2ft wide - 2 ft deep. how many aquarium pumps would it need to be sustain the plants and root systems, or would it be more cost effective to get a $60 fountain pump from lowes hardware?

~also. if the root system fills the container enclosing it will it continue to expand or will it stop growing? I have a 6" plant in a yogurt cup with an individual aquarium pump and airstone. it is doing great but the roots are soon to fill the cup, and im also worried because it dosent look like there is much room for water in there with the root ball. there are bubbles but not much standing water.......

im new to this setup and im loving the results.... i dont even have hydro soloution in there. just well water and a bit of plant food and it shot right off..... any advice from experienced dwc users is most great fully appreciated.

first, get some real nutes. you will soon have problems if you don't. i use general hydroponics three part. good stuff.

next, get something to test ph with. if you don't, you will def have probs.

now, for moms, i'd say individual 5g buckets will be your best bet. if the roots fill the container, cut half of them off, and add a few drops of superthrive to the res (one drop per gallon)

your current plant needs more space. make her a 5g bucket...

If you need that many moms...how big is your flower room/what amount/type of lighting are you using in the space?

kp is right on. Individual buckets are the way to go. Otherwise the roots of all the moms will be an entangled mess and if you have problems w/one..you will have problems with all.

And man...the plants get HUGE in DWC FAST.

the plants i have now were test rats so to say. they will be flowered soon. k individual buckets probably would be better then..... I need about 40 clones every 2-3 weeks with my current setup. i will put those into flowering at 8-12". I need an hps light that is at least 250 -600 watt for my flower room but i dont have much cash currently because of my dwc/aero study. I prefer to get one without a reflector as it isnt needed, if that can anyway cut the expenses

use black 30 gallon rubbermaid tubs from wall mart the water will stay colder and your ph will be stable a lot longer than a 5 gallon bucket

Yup that is what i used, i made a 6 site plant with that thing using 6 inch netpots and its awesome! Only thing is you need to reinforce the side, drill a hole on the side where the lid touches the bucket and reinforce it with a wire.

you were able to put 6 plants in a 30 gallon tub,how high and bushy are they at the moment, have you had to cut the roots.

no i dont have to cut the roots, i'll post some pix of it soon so you might want to check back. You won't have any problems with rooting except i only did mines for flowering you are talking about moms they will need individual buckets. I got 2 moms in a smaller bucket with the same design but only 1 netpot i used a 15 gal for those and plenty of room for roots. They can tip over once they get really big so you'll have to tie them to walls or something.

totally forgot what you asked lol, i made 2 of these setups one i prune them so that i'll get one big cola which is what i like the other one i let get bushy, their in like the 3rdwk of flower now and the bushy one is giving me alot of problems which i don't like its too crowded.

waffle would you say that it would be better to put 4 instead of 6 or are the problems just on the topped ones.

You can put six if you like bushy then its fine, i just don't like to have a bush because it makes it harder to trim later on and you'll get alot of nugs.
