Effects of hallucinogens on depression and other mental illnesses.

Thank you, and yes, I had a lot of stuff crammed in there pretty tightly. I had a couple of coral wars in there that got ugly and had to get rid of a couple of nasty little bastards. I actually had a fair number of LPS and soft corals in there too. Here’s a list of what I had in there for corals. I also apologize for the thread derailment.

Oh shit! You’re my OG for sure bro. Straight classics like the Idaho Grape, Chip’s Acro from ORA I think, and that super rare Larry Jackson Acropora valida. Woooooo! So hard to keep the Blastomussa looking so nice. Tanks like this inspired me to get into reef aquariums back then. Was this in Reef Hobbyist? I feel like I saw this article back then. Thank you for putting this up really.

Yeah, I was very lucky to be able to get some of those hard to find corals. My tank was featured on the “Uber frags” website. It never made it into any big name magazines but some of the guys I got frags from had some incredible tanks and I believe some of them made it into some.

I read that SSRIs negate the effect of psilocybin, and that mixing the two can produce serotonin syndrome.

Anyone else hear this? I just read it on this forum, makes taking magic mushrooms useless to some of us.

.
I do take sertraline (Zoloft) 50mg daily, duloxetine (Cymbalta) 100mg daily and I did not notice a difference in the effects of the psilocybin or LSD. Probably because it was such a relief from my depression and anxiety that the medications were barely helping, but it felt even better than I remember when I was not on antidepressants. In the case of drugs like cocaine, amphetamines, prescription or not, extacy, etc. it seems to mute the effects a little, but the antis really seem to keep your heart from going crazy fast for whatever reason. Uhhh, be careful you mixologists out there.

Thanks Carlos

I'm nervous about taking psilocybin in case there are side effects, I just want to sit and meditate on the buzz.

I'm taking Citrolin (spelling) on a moderate dose.

The website I suggested has a lot of postings about your situation. I cannot give advice on this as I do not take medications and have never researched the side effects of this combination. But I encourage you to check out the website I suggested and speak to your doctor about it if you have any concerns as as well intended as posters can be, most do not have a science based background. Those that post and have a science based background often studied connected fields but lack the specific knowledge of this field. I for one am not a doctor nor a pharmacist.

That being said I can comment on the effectiveness of this and depression. I went from being in a truly depressive state to being productive almost overnight. I was deeply depressed, was prescribed medications that I had horrible reactions to (they made me extremely aggressive and increasingly angry). I stopped taking these medications as I realized these were not typical behaviors or me and scheduled an appointment to speak to a professional and learned that in rare cases these medications caused my symptoms. I was asked if I would like to try different medications and declined. After reading about magic mushrooms effectiveness treating PTSD currently I learned that pre war on drugs doctors commonly prescribed cubes to combat depression. I spoke with my doctor about it and he agreed that they showed great promise in PTSD trials and that they had indeed been prescribed in the past for depression. My doctor did not feel that I was in any risk trying an alternative medicine such as this and as a good doctor should requested I keep him in the loop. My recovery is not complete and maybe never will, but I have recovered more from depression with the assistance of magic mushrooms than I ever imagined possible.

My theory that utilizing the secondary reward system allows the body time to make repairs to my primary reward system. Comparatively it reminds me of the difficulty you would have changing a tire while driving, compared the retaliative ease of changing a tire while the car is stopped and has been lifted by a jack. I have not felt this good in years. I can attribute some to better diet, exercise, reduced stress, and focus on my mental needs. But I did these things for years and did not notice such dramatic improvements in my mental state until I started medicating rarely with magic mushrooms.

Thank you for sharing your experience my brother. It’s important that we tell people that we have tried the medications and treatments and are continuing to try to find relief in whatever way possible. Shit, I’d cut my big toe off with a steak knife if they said I could avoid an anxiety attack. I did a 12 week cognitive behavior therapy session for PTSD through TERROS in Phoenix and it does help. I think that the majority of people have mental health issues because this modern way of life is not the way we evolved for over 200,000 years. I don’t want to get all Unabomber on the issue, but advancing technology since the industrial revolution hasn’t been very good for human beings. There’s no way we were this fucked up as hunter gatherers right? People probably didn’t kill a Wooly Mammoth and feel empty inside afterwards ya know?

I wanted to send these to TreeFarmerCharlie only, but I don’t know how. First two are my 40gal reef, third is the 600g bullet shaped tank with my sps frags and that beautiful Squarespot at AZ Seabottom, fourth is the 700g reef from Reef Culture being delivered, a Multifasciatus Angel, a Ventralis Anthias, Reef Culture owner Nick Evans underwater inside the tank and some Scolymia because they’re Scolymia, the 700 after about a year and the 20’ x 5’ coral flats with led’s

Awesome! There are some beautiful corals in there! This was the last tank I owned. I built the entire thing from scratch, including the 70 Gal Starfire cube and the door/drawer box comes out of the stand to reveal the built-in sump.

Joe Rogan talked about this issue on one of his podcasts that stuck with me. Joe pointed out that we are goal orientated creatures and that we get dopamine releases from accomplishing goals. That completing tasks makes us happier while laying around doing little can cause us to remain in a depressive state because of this too. Basically we have too much free time and it's easy to be lazy but long term laziness encourages depression and other issues. It got me thinking and creating a foundation of useful habits helped me, but I really attribute much of my success from depression from a few doses of spaced out psychedelics.

I bought a 500 dollar painting at the Emerald cup to support M.A.P.S. They work for health and well being. But too much can have negative effects. I know people that went Skitzo from bad lsd. It also depends on the persons frame of mind going into the trip.

The greatest story never told is how so many millions of human beings were driven from the countryside into the terrible conditions of cities by a small group of people whose businesses and families continue to manipulate the people into the most miserable jobs and housing they can tolerate for the least amount of compensation possible. You don’t see billionaires lining up to fix the water in Flint, MI or getting children out of cages on the border. The system is fucked because we keep the drug addicts in control of all the drugs. Corporations and billionaires are addicted to not just profit, but to monopoly. Imagine that the only people with heroin are heroin addicts. Do you think that they would be interested in parting with it ever? People are generally compelled to stockpile for the future, but when other human beings have to go without so a group of people can hoard and lock away the resources it’s just wrong. Where are the benevolent kings? Where is our Cyrus the Great? Our Marcus Aurelius? Our Abraham Lincoln? Fuck Donald Trump and fuck you motherfuckers who support him. No joke, I hope you all die of COVID19 tonight. Alone, in the dark with your Trump 2020 shirt on and your KKK hood, you dumb motherfuckers. You didn’t pay attention in school, you didn’t educate yourself as an adult and now you have opinions about how something so complex as government should work? You probably try to explain to your own dog how to sniff another dog’s ass or sit there telling your computer how it could operate more efficiently huh? Anyhoo, fuck Trump. Please God strike him down with a blast of gonorrhea, just kidding I’m an atheist, but I do hope he does dies of gonrrhea and rots in hell.

So, I fucked up my dose of sertraline today. Doubled up and now I’m in the beginning of sertraline syndrome. My legs and abs flex uncontrollably and sleep is near impossible because the shit wakes you up felling like you smoked meth for 20 minutes an hour over the next 12 hours. I get so sleepy and tired then immediately feel like I want to do some kind of weird dance. Usually, I go through a gram of weed an hour during this just trying to smoke myself into a coma. Sleep well and long my friend, I’ll be spazzing the fuck out all night for not paying attention.

One of the items on my bucket list is to try shrooms with my partner, but I have some skepticism about it. Without going into a full sob story, I suffer from depression and PTSD, and back in the summer of 2018 I had a crippling nervous breakdown that caused me to be misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder. It was an absolute shitshow and cringe-worthy period of my life. My concern is whether or not mushrooms will trigger some kind of psychotic symptoms or permenantly fuck up my already-in-the-shitter mental health. My uncle has paranoid schizophrenia, so there's a genetic link to the possibility of some shit like that happening.

Regardless of what happens, I really want to have a small dose (probably 0.6 grams at most? Someone more experienced can help me out here.). Just enough to enhance the colors and make reality a little warmer; I'd prefer not to be able to telepathically communicate with God or see one of the levels from the Dante's Inferno video game.

My wife fell into a severe depression after a moderate mushroom trip. It lasted for as she tells it, about six to eight months. It ended when she had another shroom trip of the same amount.
She is however turned off from mushrooms many years later as many might be.

bad trips can be hard to recovery from. Not that she has admitted to having one, I’m just saying in general. A massive DMT trip put me in a very hard place and I suspect I might still be there.
