There's also all kinds of biblical admonitions about lending money and charging interest (please don't make me do a google search for it)(I'm too busy doing a search for Haudenosaunee right now!) :-), yet we are all still being charged a hefty interest for any money we borrow, and banks are still in business. If people want to live by the Leviticus rules, maybe they have to embrace every single one of them?

Don't forget, Slavery's cool, in the bible.

So is stoning a cheating wife. And, if you are caught fuckin' yer girlfriend prior to marriage -- it's a fine for the guy, and a pile of rocks upside her head. And, pulling out, using a condom, or slappin' the snake are all abominations, also. Interracial marriage is an abomination unto god... I could go on and on and on... Instead, I just read the UNIX Bible, and use that as the base for my religion. (What? It has "Bible" in it's title, and I can fact check it!)

EDIT: I don't dislike, or hold disdain for Christians. I do question the double standards that most have -- I like to nitpick my mom's dietary choices, and one time brought a guy home and introduced him as my "Hot date that I told you about!"

To her credit, she barely batted an eye on the bringing a guy to her house.

Well, I don't have cable and rarely watch the news so I just caught wind of this situation via Facebook. My thoughts are as follows:

1. People still watch tv?
2. Intentional drama to drive sales in the last 2 weeks of a lackluster shopping season.
3. Phil Robertson, Pat Robertson. We need to stop giving tv shows to guys named Robertson.
4. That guy looks like he fucks his ducks.
5. Seriously, he probably fucks the ducks.

I bet ol Phil is wearing clothes of two different materials. According to levitcus 19:19 this is forbidden. If miss Kay ever put his coat on to go outdoors quickly she is an abomination according to deuteronomy 22:5. If their garden contains more than one kind of seed they are also in violation of Gods law.

The more I think about it the more I realize that maybe the west burrough baptist church is an actual representation of the righteous teaching of the Bible.

edit: I'm sure I'm not endearing myself to a few people with these posts. Alas I'm also very wrong in the fact that I don't believe a woman has to be quiet and submissive. Part of the worlds problems with war and violence is the fact that too many men have been in charge for far too long and a womans natural compassion has been nixt from the equation for far too long. I could see how the founders of America were threatened by the Haudenosaunee and their view on woman's rights and power.
Seriously, Christ fulfilled the Mosaic law , After Christ died the true religion was open for all mankind. Unfortunately evil men moved into the congregation , literally the proverbial wolf in sheeps clothing and now even Gods name has been taken out of almost all bibles except in a few places, thats why it reads so off in places. At any rate, i truly understand why so many people hate religion, but the Bible is truly amazing regarding history and prophecy , its todays abuse in his name, think about it, did Jesus ever kill anyone? Actually when they came to sieze him and Peter cut off one of their ears Jesus rebuked HIM. All the death misery, cheating every bad thing has happened for one reason. Satan lied to Eve, she bought it and Adam followed.

The original sin , the lie that man does not need God,,,,and look how far we have come. An acute inability to rule of govern ourselves without millions being murdered or extorted or enslaved be it chains , drugs, or any form of government,,see it doesnt exist, the only thing man is getting better at is lying, stealing and murdering each other wholesale, for profit.

Leave the bible out of it please , an actual study , NOT FROM ACADEMIA would be worth your while, Get a living english copy or something like that.
Peace

If all Mosaic law is fulfilled, and Jesus didn't specify homosexuality as a sin, then what right does any christian have in saying it's wrong?

I hate weak interpretations of solid wording.

It's similar to the NSA's reading of the 4th Amendment. You are interpreting the bible. Doesn't it say something about "a single jot" being changed sending you to hell? So, when you tell people to go ahead and rock that bacon wrapped lobster, with a cheeseburger and milkshake, because "Jesus fulfilled all of the laws" aren't you sending yourself to hell? That IS what it says, your "interpretation" isn't.

(Yeah, I've heard the "dream of all food" bullshit before. You get it one way, is it "all the people" or "all the food?) For an all-knowing "god" your big-guy-in-the-sky sure does suck at being unambiguous... You'd have thought he'd have seen that one coming.

Like i said READ IT, i would start with the first 3 books of Romans since that makes it pretty clear. Homosexuals are not to be hated or despised nor treated badly. You really have zero idea what you are saying . Weak interpretation indeed. Again anything that has the bible involved draw scrutiny and scorn, its really sad that the new enlightened generation cant see the past a realize what is about to happen.

Hell is NOT a burning place and it never was, that was one more thing evil people invented Sheol or hades gehenna, gehenna was the city dump where criminals who didnt have any money where thrown if they died hell or hades meant simply the common grave,,,Jesus refereed to death as a sleep. God doenst want to torture anyone forever, its a lie and nothing but a lie,,,but,,,,it didnt come from the Bible, it came from evil men changing wording and interpretation.
Such animosity leads me to believe your life is unfulfilling or you have been lied to and hurt by someone supposedly religious ,,sorry, wish i could help.

I've read it. In Latin, in primary school. And, when I was in solitary for 6 months, I read it in English, in 4 different versions. I was a devout Christian, I strove to live my life like christ. But then, I realized -- your god evolved. Christmas Trees -- the Asherah Pole spoken about and condemned in Isaiah after Yaweh and Ashirah broke up is the easiest example to bring forth. Your "bible" is a hodgepodge of different books, from different eras, with differing lineages, and questionable origins.

Hand me a "Bible" that wasn't agreed upon by a counsel of men, a single book written/inspired in a single sitting. If you can do that, I'll give [ ] that much credence to it. The Quran can be authenticated, there is PROOF OF LINEAGE. Maybe THAT is why christians hate muslims so damned much. I hold no animosity towards the bible, nor do I hold animosity towards those poor simpletons who think it's a genuine "Book of god."

I'm an atheist. I do not believe in any gods or goddesses. I believe in simple TRUTHS: Math, Science, Reasoning. I believe in higher evolution, and man's ability to continually evolve. I do the "right thing" because I want to, not because I'm compelled by some majick sky guy, and not so I can get some reward in the hereafter.

Your trumpeting about the bible though, while living on my ancestral lands, stolen from our tribes, nations, bands, and pueblos -- that's hypocrisy of the highest order. Your entire life - birth to death -- is a statement against your Christianity. As is your pick-and-choose nature of "christianity." Either 100% of the bible is truth, factual, and accurate, or non of it is. It's not a "grab what you want" buffet book.

Your "3 books of Romans" is no more the word of God than the words in this post.

And with that, I'm done trying to make the sound of clapping with one hand... As Jesus said, I'm brushing the dust from my robes, and moving on. (A better quote: "Dude, you're supposed to be christian, shouldn't you forgive and move on?" -- David Cross.

Oh, and Utah's anti-gay marriage law was struck down by the federal appellate court today, another win! That's 18 states, and the feds that realize that everyone should have an equal right to be miserable.

EDIT: My Christianity was disingenuous. I never felt guilt or remorse for anything I did. Just for having to pay the consequences... So, I could never be a "true christian." No matter how much I wanted it to be, or hoped it would be.

It seems that "the Gays" are about as intolerant as "the Christians".
what makes you think that?

do a bunch of gays compare phil robertson to a drunkard who steals horses only to have sex with them just for what he chooses to do with his wife behind closed doors?
