you got off cheap, between mri's, x-rays, 3 surgeries, physical therapy, medications, and the hospital stays my ruined knee cost my insurance company upwards of $200K, they sent me dupes of all the invoices just to make sure i knew who to thank for being able to walk without a zimmerframe, and i did know, i thanked my doctors. the insurance company was pushing for a knee replacement but my doc told them to eat dicks and fixed my knee right. i got an extra 20 years on it before it became too stiff to work in the feilds. now im considering going on disability rather than keep working for peanuts in a shitty shop in town. they keep threatening to fire me because i cant climb ladders no more.

Because without the plan your insurance company can drop you for any or no reason. Because if you have a lapse in coverage, you may not be able to get back on board. There are millions of men who take cholesterol meds and high blood pressure meds - their pre-existing conditions are being managed by the drugs but they are still pre-existing which means they don't get to be insured. If you lose your job you get a cobra - for a while, then you lose that and you are out in the open. Because if you run your insurance out for the year or for your lifetime then you are out of luck once again. The current law, shitty as it is provides for these details that snag millions each year - including me. I finally managed to get coverage but one more little health burp and I am out on my ear. Now consider this, you wake up with pain in your chest - you think - "I'd better go to the hospital" then you think but if it is something that is bad but not too bad, then I lose my coverage, maybe I should just stay home, but maybe it is something terrible, but it probably isn't but what if it is" Do you REALLY want to have those kinds of conversations with yourself? I know I don't.
Why would you be fucked? Every Hospital/doctor I have ever been to accepts payments, some will give you charity and pay the bill themselves, hell go put a change cup at the convenience store and beg for peoples quarters. It isn't against the law to be in debt and the MOST they can do is get a judgement on you after going to court. Declaring bankruptcy doesn't impoverish you or make you give up your car, home, clothing, TV, Appliances, land, or anything else that is essential.
Get the disability, you can still keep the job, but if they fire you for the knee you can sue for cause.
for what, actually staying on topic? I would love to see everyone get health care but why are you going to fuck over the ones who treat you. You end up with mediocre treatments and a lack of doctors
