Exactly who would you have heard it from if the suspect is dead? I was an armed security guard for a short period of time, and during my firearms training the instructor (retired cop) told us that if we were ever in a position where using our firearms was deemed necessary, we were to "shoot to kill". His reasoning? "Dead men don't tell tales".
But no cop that just kicked your door is gonna ask you to go find your gun or go get it.
