Guys, I started a thread for this. If we discuss every issue in the FAQ it won't be a goto place.

Hi all I am new to rollitup but not new to growing. My husband is a medical patient and finding out about the laws has been hard for me. I have scoured the states sites and have found more usefull
info here. Also it's easier to understand. We are preparing to become caregivers and finding actual helpful information on the laws and how best to proceed is hard at best. Can anyone help me with any
info or websites. Like a caregivers for dummies. We can grow some damn fine bud but I'm finding it hard to find out how to proceed.

Hi Villa and welcome :-)

This is by far the very best for info. A lot of the more advanced members on here are great as answering questions, and guiding you to where the info that you need is located. Best of Luck, and hoping to seeing some great posts (with pics if possible) down the road. Again, Welcome :-)

Wow thanks guys for the warm welcome and all the helpfull links. Pics well I haven't posted pics of my grow since overgrow was taken down and all the drama that went with that.
But I guess it's safe to get the camera back out.

Thanks for the great info all, I'm new to RIU, and stumble into this area, while looking for a place to tell some one every time I log in via a PC I get a trojan according to the virus programs. This does not seem to be an issue with my IPhone.

But any ways, I'm a med user, and am very glad I found this thread. I have spent the last few months hanging at Grasscity, learning and posting my progress there in a journal.

Thanks again

Hi Shark and Welcome :-) Sorry about the Trojan issue, I believe you are the second post that I have seen that refers to that problem. Hoping that you like this site, especially the sub-forum "Maine Patients". There are a great bunch of people willing to answer (or will get you the answer) that you need for a successful grow, or one that pertains to the best strain for your medical needs. They are awesome !!

Again Shark, Welcome !! :-)

I know that in Cali you don't actually have to pay the state for a card, as long as you have a recommendation you can grow, buy, and possess according to the state.

Is it the same deal in Maine or do you have to buy the state's card before you can get meds from dispensaries or caregivers? What about growing?

I ask because I read that it's 300 to register as a caregiver but only 100 to register as a patient... and I am assuming all of the above applies to the cards... wondering if you can just skip it all together.

I ask because I was reading about the difference in cost to register as a caregiver vs. a patient... got me wondering. If you want to grow for yourself as a patient, I assume you still have to register as a caregiver and pay 300? Sure would be easier and cheaper to just staple my doc's recommendation to my door and call it a done deal... but that seems like wishful thinking...

Initially with the law passed in 2009, patients did have to register and it cost $100 ($75 if on MaineCare). The amendments in 2011 did away with patient registration. Caregivers still have to register, $300 per patient up to 5 patients.
Patients can grow 6 mature plants or designate a caregiver or dispensary to grow their allotment.

Thanks for your quick response tet!

I was under the impression that anyone growing had to be designated a caregiver... now I see that patients can grow 6 plants themselves... this makes more sense now... thanks a lot!

Another Q: Is it legal to receive donations as a patient who is waiting on their first crop? What happens if I move in state and I get my doctor's recommendation, and I start growing... am I SOL until harvest? Or am I allowed to receive donations from other caregivers temporarily or something similar?

Donations is the key word here. Once you have certification you can legally obtain meds from other patients or caregivers, as long as nothing of value is given in return.

You can also fill out a designation form and buy meds from a dispensary or caregiver while you are waiting on the first crop.

This is what I was wondering, thanks. At what point would that designation become invalid in light of my own grow? When I harvest a crop?
