Fast Food - A Tutorial

IMO fast food should be a required job for a certain amount of time, so that people understand how stressful the job really is
thats one of the greatest ideas ive ever heard, if you were to run for president youd have my vote. God speed :joint::weed: In Weed We Trust

GrowTech

stays relevant.
Not where I work, and thank God for that. IMO, that's a policy is passe. Customers will exploit any known "soft spot" in the business philosophy or way of doing business. Each circumstance should be treated on its own merits, and management should deal with it accordingly. Anything less is to become the people's bitch.
There is no exploiting fast food... There is no soft spot. It's pretty clear cut. People who work in this industry are at our service, and we should not have to expect less than satisfactory service.

How management deals with problems is an internal issue, and should not have to do with the customer. If you're wrong, you're wrong. Don't dodge ownership of it.

i get dumbass people at the drive thru menue asking me how much shit costs...

the menu is RIGHT in front of you
i'm generally good at the drive-thru, but if you want people to isntantly list off what the have and know what they want, take that up with your company, it's impossible to work out what you're really getting or paying from the f**** up super advertized shazzam bright colours in your face "menu" that is actually three, one after another, not in an order, just because they can have more flahs pictures.

i certainly agree with clearing your table though, the bins are on the way out for a reason, it's not anything out of our days.

Your post is about blaming the customer for acting like a customer, and diverting ownership of YOUR mistakes.

You're being paid to be serve us, and WE'RE paying for disappointing service. As far as I'm concerned, you shouldn't even be in the industry. It seems you lack customer service ability, and the patience to SERVE people, which is what you do for a living.

Seems like a customer probably got up your ass today for something you or one of your colleagues fucked up... Welcome to reality.

The customer is always right... and if you can't accept that, you need to be delivering mail, driving a truck, or stuffing envelopes.

What ever happened to being the best at what you do? It seems a lot of people get these jobs because they think they can slack off at the customers expense.
i dont make man mistakes at my work, i have been there long enough to know my job inside and out, so what mistake did i make im covering up for?

tell me the mistake you claim im diverting from

asking people to follow these rules is a mistake? there is no mistake anywhere, just people who clog up the system

as far as im concerned, you shouldnt be eating.... ever

i have exceptional customer service skills and am one of the higher ranking employees at that shit hole

what i dont have is idiot skills

you assuming im slacking off and all of this but you have no IDEA how hard i work, stop assuming things

the customer is always right is WRONG

this allows massive exploitation and there is just no denying it

it promotes a really bad work environment when your boss will take the side of the customer rather than the employee

it takes lack of trust, shows poor team work

if your the manager, you stand by your crew, you lead them, you dont go oh sorry they are morons so ill get you whatever you desire or free now

honestly you have not worked fast food, so ill say again, you do not know what your talking about with only half of the input

and no, nothing special happened today, im just tired of people who i see getting fast food every day not knowing how to go through the system in under 100 seconds because they are not paying attention or are just plain stupid

examples of customer stupidity im talking about -

1. pulling up to the menu and talking on your cell phone for 45 seconds before ordering....your wasting all of our time

2. not having money ready when you get to the window, you were just sitting in a line of cars and you didnt grab your money?

3.sitting and eating their food right at the window, cars behind them and all

4. ordering a 60$ order in drive through instead of inside......this is a really, really, really stupid idea

so tell me cheif, how is any of those, MY mistakes

here is an example of the common exploitation that you say doesnt exist

a few weeks ago, about 30 seconds after getting her burger, a woman comes back and says her cheese isnt melted

so we made her another one...

she comes back and says the cheese still isnt melted, she asks to see the manager

manager comes out and listens to this woman bitching and moaning about her fucking cheese not being melted

we dont have a "cheese melt garruntee" and we dont advertise melted cheese

after 1 full hour of her constant bitching demanding a refund for her FULL 20 dollar order over 1 sandwhich cheese not being melted

the manager gives her the cash just so she will go the fuck away at that point

thats exploitation, and its an everyday occurance....

oh, just for the record, in the UK at least, this doens't apply to me on the whole, as i can't name the last time a national served me, nothing but immigrant after immigant, i sit around having to repeat my side order 3 times before i'm allowed to the next window :)

and no, if you are manager, then you do whatever you can to promote the business, it's image, and the staff wellbeing, all at the same time, not one or the other. sure the customer might not be right, but you humour him anyway, then take the kid round back and tell him not to worry.

and if you're not gonna put rules up at the drive thru, then we've nothing to follow. if your manager can't imnplement a system to increase productivity and customer/staff satisfaction, then as said, it's an internal issue, not something the custome will change for you etc.

you know what, reason cheese melts on a burger, cus it's freshly cooked, or a least hot. don't get me started on being served piece of crap cold old burgers and fries etc.

your soloution is impossible, for there are thousands and thousands of places with this same problem

talking to my manager isnt going to do anything

i dont know if you know what a pyramid style structure is but thats how it is

even by our own employers we are ignored

i filed a sexism complaint to my companys HR Department 6 months ago and i have not heard anything

they dont care, were just pawns

soudns like this isn't really much to do with the customer as to your management and system being completely flawed :)

im really sick and tired of people not knowing basic rules and etiquette of the food industry

so im making a tutorial for the 99% of people who are not only stupid, but inconsiderate as well

1. Know what you are going to order BEFORE you get to the talking box.

as soon as your car passes a certain threshold, a timer starts. this timer does not end until you leave the drive through

people working in the building get bitched at / potentially fired if these "drive times" are not as low as possible

so do not be a fucking moron and pull up to the menu and go

"uhhhhhh lets seeeeeeeeee what do i want" and take forever

2. Cashier's least favorite words are "scratch that" and "take off the ....."

when you cancel an item on your order, its not like just hitting a delete button

its called a void

at my place of employment, if my voids are over 2% of my total sales, i get written up

thats right, the employee gets in trouble for the customers idiocy

3. Once handed your food, do NOT check your food at the window, do NOT sit there and pull out your food, do NOT sit there and fumble with your purse / wallet / whatever

It all comes back to the timer issue, you would not believe how much trouble we get in because some stupid idiot has to go through his 4 bags of food to make sure we got everything

instead, pull forward about 8 feet, and your more than welcome to do whatever you want there

4. Dont be a fucking douche bag

remember, WE are the ones in control of the quality of the food.... the nicer you are to us, the less we hate you, the easier it is for everyone

5. They forgot something? Something made incorrectly?

dont even be an ass about mistakes, they happen, they happen often, and its part of life

simply return and ask politely for a replacement or whatever it is you need

6. do NOT leave your table covered in your trays and your trash

this is not some fancy four star eatery with bus boys and waiters etc

clean up after yourself, dont be a selfish bastard

7. Have your money ready BEFORE you get to the window (especially if its change....)

thats pretty much it, follow these extremely simple rules and the experience will be pleasant for all parties involved

thank you and have a nice day
I read your post and I gotta say. I'm normally a fairly nice person especially since i'v had my share of fast food jobs but i'll just say this, it's your job, if someone pulls up and doesn't know what they want, that's why the menu is there, look it over pick something and go, it's not their fault corporate are assholes about drive thru times.. I always check all my food before leaving, whether the person in drive thru likes it or not because you know what? I shouldn't have to pull up and go through it, then park and take my food back inside just to make your times lower. I should be able to pull up, order my food, pay for it, wait a few minutes and get it and head back to the house. But that's not the case all the time, look at it this way, if there weren't a customer (whether they take their time ordering or not) then you wouldn't be employed. I hated working fast food so if all that stuff pisses you off that much, do what i did. find a new job. I hate working with the public so I work a 3rd shift job now, which means I don't deal AS much with them. I still have to deal with people who take their time and everything but I don't let it bother me do you know why? drum rollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll because i'm paid by the hour, they can waste my time all they want, if my boss has a problem with it, i just tell them i was assisting customers. If you're that upset about your job then you need a different attitude, try mine, it's called fuck it all. If someone has a problem help them solve it. If they're taking their time, don't rush them cause more than likely if their order get's fucked they're going to come back and it's going to be your fault because you were the last person to handle their food before they were in possession of it. It's your job, do it right. As for the stuff about clean up your trash, I do agree with that. I don't really understand how people leave home and forget their manners and how to clean up after themselves, but then again, that's why they pay you guys to clean up before close. I have to do the same shit all the time, finding empty packages of shit people stole, cleaning up messes and everything, it's part of why I get paid. i'm sorry my post is so long, just got off work and not ready to pass out yet lol. <3 The other stuff though, like having your money ready, I do that. I have pretty much everything ready before hand but I always look over the menu first just incase I find something else I want.

I've worked in a fast food place before and in all honesty, it's a fucking piss easy job so fuck knows why you're getting so angry about it.

I've never known a stoner to get pissed off while working in a fast food place. The job is as easy as fuck and you get FREE MEALS!

If all those customers did not come into your work you would not have a job so stop acting like some high and mighty fast food avenger, yeah? :wall:

I honestly don't understand why people get annoyed at their job. Why make yourself physically AND mentally tired by the end of each day by thinking about how annoying each customer is being?

The customers will NEVER change.

I mean if it bothers you that much you'd be Getting a different job that's not in the public sector.

Just remember mate, there are plenty of people out there who could easily do your job, hell they'd even do it with a huge smile on their face.

Sorry for the rant but people who complain about an easy job really fuckin' piss me off.

I don't know what restaurant you work in but all you had to do is throw the burger in the damn microwave and put :30 seconds on the timer, could have saved you guys an 59 minutes and 30 seconds of listening to her bitch and $20. Couldn't throw in the microwave? throw it on the grill, really working in a restaurant isn't that hard....

so its our fault the woman is a bitch? i wasnt even the one handling the womans complaint, and we dont have a microwave, and the way our grill is designed you cant put cheese on it it will just stick to the upper part of the grill

to the person before you... no.... we dont get free meals

its not easy like it used to be

your talking about a franchise store

back when the store was franchise yeah it was chill and we got free food and everything was awesome

2 years ago corporate came in and took over

what corporates goal is is to make money no matter what expense, of the employees OR the customers

im trying to help make a very, very stressful, greedy, and rushing environment move faster, becuase people are too slow

no one has responded with anything constructive.... your all just saying " im too cool for that so fuck you and everyone that works in fast food because im selfish"

how fucking hard is it to move QUICKLY while ordereing food?

to pull away once handed a bag

is that SO hard?

The drive through is HORRIBLY inefficient because of people who

A) talk on phones while ordering

B) dont have money ready

C) people who pay ALL in change (which is not all that bad, except if B) also applies to them)

D) people not moving 8 feet to check their bags

E) people who must ask for 1 condiment at a time.... example....(can i get some extra napkins? *grabs napkins and hands them out* can i get some ranch? *grabs them hands them out* can i get some ketchup?

ask for all of your stuff at one time

F) people who say "ill take a number 4" Then upon being asked for Combo Info, They say "oh i just wanted the sandwhich"

G) this one really irritates me, if your ordering a million combos for your family or whatever, you should get used to the idea that you have to pick a size and drink for every combo...

its pretty fucking stupid how it goes some times... example

"can i get a number 1"

"small med large, what kind of drink"
"uhhhhhhhhhhhhh small with a sprite, and can i get a number 8"

".....................size and drink?"

"medium with a coke, and let me also get a number 6"

"............."

lets face it you guys... everyone in america has been to a fast food place many times, yet they still have no idea how to order food, or be efficient

that was the point in all of this, getting you out of there with your food faster, and the employees not getting in trouble for the customers mistakes or ignorance

anyone got anything constructive to say?

I worked at Taco Bell when I was in High School for about a month it was great all I did was get high and ring people up. Get paid shit but hardly did shit too. Hell I would say it is MUCH harder and more stressful to run a decent grow-op . . . .

Everything I said in my post was constructive.

Grow up a bit and get on with your job, it's what everyone else has to do..

Nothing/no one is going to change just because some kid thinks everyone should change to suit him/her.

Most people who smoke ganja couldn't care less about shit like what you've posted. Cheer up kid and get on with your job.

-----

" im too cool for that so fuck you and everyone that works in fast food because im selfish"

As i said, i've worked in fast food restaurants before and to be honest the work was mind numbingly easy, I see nothing "selfish" about realizing i have more potential than doing nothing with my life, maybe you're comfortable with that but most of us are not...

-----

By the way...Rollitup is not a blog for your life nor is it a social networking site..perhaps your views on the general public would be more suitable on those such sites.

Fast food is some of the worst work id say as a teenager, definetly my least favourite highschool job. Working 8 hour days without a break because your ALWAYS understaffed from your stupid ass corporate bosses cutting shifts to nothing, and then dealing with such rude people all day really makes you want to flip...

Its not very hard work because everything you can learn in like a week and then you know it forever, its just annoying and pays crap. But just get high before work haha.
