After I showed I regained the ability to hold down a job I got a good job, just recently started it. I even called and cancelled my food stamps. Those folks who bitch about working at mcdonalds for 10 years and still making a crap wage have only themselves to blame. Show a little ambition.

Then again, I don't see for the life of me how those places get remotely competent people to come in at 5am to start making sausage biscuits for what they pay them. And a good portion of the staff are usually competent.

A massive raise would have minimal impact on Mcdonalds. I'm not sure what percentage of their stores are corporate as opposed to franchised. But mcdonalds gets a lot of their money from the entrapanuer (sp) that owns a franchise. I know such a family with 4 mcdonalds stores. They are comfortable, and I would call them upper middle class. But I got a feeling they would still be ok. Mcdonalds would still get their contractually stipulated franchise fees. The suppliers might take a hit. And because burger king and others want to sell burgers too, they couldn't pass it along willy nilly like to the consumer. Prices would likely increase, but something else would absorb the bulk of the extra costs.

The answer isn't a de jure minimum wage, but a de facto maximum wage. Most would agree the golden age of America was the 1950's and 60's. Check out the top marginal tax rates at that time. If it was still in effect, the CEO wouldn't be making $30 million a year like Wal marts does.

thats what "aggregate Demand is SUPPOSED to be, and why Henry Ford said :There is one rule for industrialists and that is: Make the best quality of goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible.

he wanted to build cars that sold to everybody, including his own workers, so they could also Buy His Cars instead of just making toys for the wealthy, which is of course a limited and fickle market.

if everybody paid higher wages, we had nearly full employments, and we lived in a closed system then "aggregate demand" could increase the volume of transactions across the market, to a point, causing overall economic growth. to a point.

everybody does NOT pay higher wages, we have nowhere near decent employment numbers and the system is NOT closed.

companies are "outsourcing" labour needs to foreign lands to save on wages and dodge environmental regulations
illegal immigrants and the companies that hire them are "insourcing" cheap foreign labour
the unemployment numbers (the real ones not the fake "new jobless claims") are staggering
imported goods are priced lower than US made ones, thanks to a foolish opposition to tariffs and taxes of foreign goods
"Tree Trade" treaties are eroding whats left of the american economy and transforming foreign lands into nothing but a sweatshop for cheap disposable "consumer" goods, until our money runs out, and then we will also be a broke ass third world country, just like so many others.

a nation should be SELF SUFFICIENT, not dependent on foreign lands for imported food materials and tools. america was self sufficient once, and could be again, but not til we get LEADERS and scrub the Gimmee Gimmee mentality from our populace.

i think it's really interesting that employers like walmart and mcdonalds all have a state liaison as part of their human resources department to automatically assist new employees in signing up for SNAP and Welfare in order to subsidize the shitty wage that no person can pay for the 4 basic necessities with $290/week..these corporations knowingly leave it up to the taxpayers to foot the bill for income disparity and inequality..CEO all the while taking advantage of corporate tax loopholes..

yes, there is some substance to the fact that a company can make 15 BILLION dollars in NET INCOME (this is after taxes, after expenses, after all those bonuses to the board) yet the majority of its employees live in poverty... there is some substance to the fact that you can work in mcdonnalds for 10 years and still be making the same wage as the guy that started the last week.... there is some substance to the idea that fellow americans HAVE to suck up a sub-standard way of life in order to ensure profits....

there is something wrong with that... there is a lot of substance in that conversation... you just choose to have another one...

i already mentioned that companies like walmart and mcd have state liaisons in their HR department to sign up employees for SNAP and Welfare when the employee is hired it's part of the standard paperwork hence the taxpayers are footing the bill for the sub-standard wage..those companies are shifting the cost to the US TAXPAYERS

Why would your goal be to work at McDonalds in the same job for 10 years?

There is some substance to the idea that fellow Americans have to take care of their own lives and advancement. McDonalds is a starting position where you demonstrate that you can show up and perform set tasks. If you cannot find a better job after working at McDonalds a year or two then I would say the fault lies in you, not in McDonalds.

What it really comes down to is that life is actually hard. And a lot of people feel that life should be easy, not hard. And their solution is that they should get paid more than they are worth because somebody has more money than them.

Reality does not work that way no matter how hard you wish for it. And BTW, the rich own the politicians so good luck trying to take their money by using the government...

Nelson Mandela had a good quote. I may be misquoting but the point is there. Hatred/Envy is like drinking poison and hoping your enemy dies from it.

What does a company do with profit? Did you ever think of that? A company does not buy sports cars or go out for lunch. A company takes that profit and pays it to investors as dividents, it expands the company by buying assets and employing people, etc... In other words that 15 billion dollars profit is re-invested in the economy. That is how businesses grow, their profit. Take that away and you have no growth.

What you fail to realize is, the majority of McDonalds are individually owned franchises. These independently owned restaurants are the ones responsible for the the labor costs of each store and they work off super tight margins to make their own profits
The $15billion profits you are touting come from corporate, which BTW, has absolutely nothing to do with the day to day operations of running the individual stores.

Do you understand that all of the costs of a company are paid by you and I in the costs of products and services???

If the cost of a product or service is increased we are still paying for it...

And BTW, the cost is being shifted to the US taxpayer because the government keeps stealing money from the US taxpayers to fund welfare programs for the US taxpayers in a never ending loop that keeps taking more and more from productive companies and dropping it into an endless black hole.

you're a small minded individual..why wouldn't it be?..working up to management then perhaps becoming franchise owner yourself? i know several mcd franchise owners who now have 5-10 sites as a result..
