Fir3dragons grow journal. The fall of soil, the rise of vertical coco hempys!!

subbed....love hempys...cool setup.

Thanks, what do you think about adding the 400 with the 600? I should add that the 400w bulb has been used quite a few grows and isn't brand new, but I'm sure it will help with the 600w but I'm not sure how much and don't want to waste electric on something that isn't worth it ya know?

Your call depending on budget restraints....should cost almost double....if you think you could almost double the yield....??

I'm in the same boat, cali is fuggin expensive for power so I run inductions.....1000W of them, bill is about $200 a month.

I live north east. I pay 8.7 per kWh I believe and my bill is regularly 200 a month as well but normally I run my 600w at 24/0 for veg and then pop the 12/12 for flower. I have since got cheap t5 for my tent, and plan to use the hps strictly for flowering..I doubt I could double yield with it. I've always had poor yields growing in soil.. This is my first vert hempy so I'm hoping for a massive yield lol cause I smoke a lot.. My plants including pots are up to the 4ft orange fence so I hope I can get quite a bit..

Lotta times yield is greatly strain dependent.

I can't wait to get back east, power here starts a .19 kwH and quickly goes up to .39kwH....all my lights run at the .39kwH as the house is already above the "threshold".

Lookin good Dragon! Far as whether or not you should add the 400, I think it would come down to what kind of coverage you've got with the 600. As in, is all your foliage within 3.5 feet of the bulb or are some bud sites further away? If its further away, wouldyou be able to mount the 400 closer? Are you just planning on stacking them vertically? If so, I'd say that method is well-proven and you should go for it! And definitely do it if any plants block light from others, any light is well worth adding when you're this far along. Good luck and I hope you get the "massive yield" you're lookin for!

Damn dude.. I kinda like it here cause I can use the cool winter air to cool my grow.. But I hate that there's nothing to do.. But that's why I grow.. So there is something to do lmao...

oh yeah it's def within 3.5 ft for sure all of it... Maybe not the outside of the plants that aren't against the wall, but everything facing the light is within 3.5 ft easy.. I would say 2.5 ft is about how far away max... If I was to use the 400 yeah I would lower the 600 a bit, and put the 400 above it without cool tubes though.. Bare bulbs. Now, my question is would a 10k btu window unit cool this ting in the summers? It's gonna take some thinking to get the 400 going cause for one, I use a 6 inch inline fan to bring air in while that isn't the problem, the problem is I don't got a thermostat controller so I use my speed controller to dial the fan down. But the issue with that is, I can't use my carbon filter setup cause on full speed it's loud as fuck. So the solution for that , that I can think of is to buy the cheap Agromax digital cooling controller from htg on eBay for I think it's 60 bucks? And regulate my inline fan that brings cool air in with that... But then that brings another issue.. It won't be on a speed controller and when it turns on will be loud as hell.. So I think I'll need another speed controller too... I don't got another vertical socket either. Right now, I got my speed controller which controls the intake from outside fan on the timer with my light, so when it's light out the air don't continue to come in and freeze them. I'm thinking of saving up for a sentinel at this point cause I can just plug everything in that and let it do the dialing for me.. But that's expensive as he'll and I'm a cheap bastard lol.. Any opinions or options are appreciated. I would like the cheap route lol.

i might hang it like I did before... With a zip tie from hvac ducting one of them big thick ones lol. Prolly just gonna hang it and tweak as needed... Only way to do it really..

if I can get at least 10 ounces from these plants I'll be happy.. I've never had a harvest over 4 ounces...

I'm gonna rig it up tonight and see what happens. May have to move the ones that aren't against the wall out some, but I'm gonna try to stick a fan in the middle so blow the heat up, and maybe connect ducting from the intake from outside and point it at the fan that blows up on the bulbs to cool them... But I hope they don't swing from the air cause that will be a disaster to see.....

cant like anything obviously, but just to let u know im watching progress :)

Alright man, thanks.. I just been brainstorming all day waiting until lights turn on to actually do anything. I did move the tent out into another room.. It had light leaking around the seams and stuff and that was a no go... So I been moving stuff around and organizing I think next time, I'm gonna drop the two liters... Cause they are kinda in the way.. I'd rather have regular coco hempy pots.. And next time I need bigger saucers for sure.. Screw these little pieces of shits.. They break and leak at the worst possible times for no reason at all... I've ruined several of my nice towels cause of this.. I know their replaceable but still... It sucks.. I got a upgrade list... Def gonna get a truncheon meter... The cheap trash can I got sucks too... I might try to get a better quality one and do it right with a wand cause no wand sucks when it's pouring out and u gotta swap to the next plant... Then the little saucers overflow a short time later... Lol end of rant I'm stoned live and learn... I say this method is easier then soil... I'm gonna add perlite to the coco next go...

also so forgot to mention I have got to order me some good genetics also next go.... Idk what yet but I've heard good things about c99 but idk there's so many to choose...

Got my 400w up and running with a zip tie... I actually think it's gonna work but I'm gonna check my temps and make sure.. I guided ducting from intake to a window fan.. The one with double fans and it seems to be sucking the cold ass air up pretty good so far... I turned the intake fan from low to halfway medium.. I'm sure I'll lower it cause temps are holding at 65 and 68 . I got my probe on the leaf closest to the 600 the 400 I don't feel much heat off of... Hopefully I'll be able to keep this setup...

Like like like

Thanks haha

I'll check tonight to see how it went. Good thing my thermometer shows highest and lowest temps so I'll be able to see the differences. I do need another timer to two ASAP though. I don't like the idea of a three way plug in my timer. Might just get one of the timer surge things. That window fan needs to be on the timer too. No need for it to be on when light is off. I'm saving as much electric as possible. We'll....trying to anyways.... Also need a timer for the veg tent to put them on 18/6. It's gonna take a little bit to transition into using the 400w. I'll keep an eye on the timer and make sure the three way plug isn't effecting it and I don't see any melting. I'm usually away for half the time the lights are on (6hours) I'm not too worried about it, but better be safe then sorry. I'm gonna sit around and make a list of things I need by the start of next grow.. Truncheon gallons of notes etc... Just so I don't forget anything

Lights are on, checked the highs and lows.. The high was 72 low was 59. While I would like them more up to 75/70 I'm going to keep them as is. I don't wanna screw anything up. I just gotta get off my ass and bring my res and stuff up so I can water them with the first dose of cal mag. Then, I'll see how they are. Right now, they are starting to get buds so I can't wait to see them in another week or two.

Been super busy lately been snowing like a bitch and we're getting another 12-15 inches again tonight. These pics were taken on the 9th. I got a note 3 now so I hope the pics are better...I'm working on putting them up but it takes forever

Well I forgot I ran out of res water so I couldn't water last night. I plucked some leaves and tied some buds back. Some leaves shows light bleaching. I also keep finding fucking stink bugs.. I think they may be the ones leaving the spots on my leaves and I thought I needed Cal mag. Oh well ill still use it. No clue what to do about them damn stink bugs. I'll upload pics of before and after I plucked some leaves. If you think I should do more let me know. Also let me know if I shouldn't do it at all. I'm not sure how far they are cause I check trichs. Here are pics no idea if they will be in order though I'm uploading from my note 3
