First CFL Grow - Help appreciated

Checked on the two plants outdoors and they are lookin great!

So far the count on sex is:

4 Female
5 Male
1 Herm
2 Unknown

Might go plant the three males somewhere again outdoors just for the hell of it. Not sure what I'll do about the hermaphrodite.

Close-up pictures are of two different sides of the same node on the herm. I am sexing this correctly right?

just getting used to the site but love how informative it is and how helpful everyone seems to be so i thought i would start a grow journal.

I'm growing 12 plants at the moment all started 2/9/09.

4 of the plants are a super crazy goo x spider kush and the rest are unknowns.

I'm growing in a small closet currently vegging with 10 23w cfls and will then be budding with 3 68w and 4 23w cfls.

The plants at this point are doing very well. I repotted them all yesterday for the third and final time and they seemed to really enjoy the extra space. Looking nice and perky this morning.

I have limited space as i live in a small apartment and cant have these guys smelling the place up all too much so i'm thinking of starting them on a 12/12 schedule very soon. I would like comments about this. The plants are very short - like 4" but are putting up their 5th set of leaves. My 13th plant is a bit of a mystery - first to sprout and grew its first two leaves and then stopped. Been putting out roots like no other but it's like the shoot apical meristem gave up.

what size pots are you using???

If you dont want them to get too big then start flowering a bit earlier than suggested. That would be one way to control the plant size..

Started flowering 2 weeks ago when they were only 4". Still think they are going to get too big though. Thinking about lollipoping a few of them today.

Thanks for the comment though!

Been outa town - planted the hermy in the wild up in the mountains. Hopefully the frost wont kill it. No pictures unfortunately - brought my camera but forgot the memory card at home. Doh!

The count now is 6 girls! of the original 12 I started. Not too bad. Here are a few pics:

Here's my favorite plant - pretty sure a purple and the first to show sex:

Here's a close up of her developing buds:

This one my roomie and I have nick-named 'the monster'. From the very beggining grew wierd - started from a seed growing in a spiral pattern:

This one was the last to show sex (in the last hour) and by far the bushiest. Most lower shoots have reached the canopy and the main shoot seems to have stopped growing - def sticks out from the others.

how many cfl's do you have in there???? and what is the wattage?

Thanks Gotkush! First subscriber I believe. I'm honored

how many cfl's do you have in there???? and what is the wattage?

Rick - CFL arrangement keeps changing but for the past week or two its been as follows:

3 - 68 watt 2700k
8 - 23 watt 5 are 2700k and 3 are 6500k (I hear the combination is better than just a single spectrum but plan on changing 2 more of the 6500k to 2700k odor eliminating bulbs. Want to see if those work (and I have no other odor control :( )

Here is an update on two of the 6 plants I have outdoors:

Just got the power bill for the first time sinse starting all this. Wasn't expecting much of a change but it actually went down from last month and the month before lol. Perhaps an indication I should add more lights!

Have to make sure I'm awake when lights turn on in order to move them up an inch or so every morning. Typically adjusting lights around 3 times per day atm - fun fun!

Plants looking good with the exception of yellowing fan leaves on a couple. I upped my nutes a bit with this mornings water - Still on veg nutes with the addition of bone meal ( 1-11-0) and tbls molasses.

Clones are looking good. I was impatient and pulled a few outa the soil to see where they were at - most all have started to root and a few are well on their way. This morning one of them had roots shooting out onto the ground in four directions so i transplanted.

o yea, my 12/12 seedlings are looking pretty funky. Wierd leaves - looks like spinach. Definately are growing though.

So the plants are doing well.

Trimmed up two of the bushier ones - minor manicure, just got rid of a couple fan leaves directly over big bud sites.

Clones are takig off - this morning had 5 that needed to be repotted - outa containers though so I'm brainstorming things I can use. Didn't actually think i'de have a 100% success rate. Additionally I've mixed many of them - dunno which plants they go to. I know one of the plants i've repotted is good - pretty sure another came from the hermy - and semi sure that one came from a male lol. oops. Now I have a bunch that are rooted i'm pretty sure came off a male. I feel terrible for rooting em just to kill them. Need to stop smokign while I take clones I guess :)

Was looking at the monster and she's really something. Most every leaf on this plant has an even count - instead of growing 3 then 5 then 7 then 9 part leaves it went from 1 to 4 to 6 to 8. So far i've noticed regular looking bud sites in addition to polyploid? bud sites and double bud sites. Crazyness - here are some pics:

Even numbered leaves:

Double Budsite:

Polyploid budsite (well thats my best guess, doesn't look like the rest)

So i cloned all of my plants before sexing and yesterday went through to weed out left over males. I decided to dig em up - they weer planted in soil - and see how they rooted. I had used three different techniques for cutting the clones and these are my results:

three different techniques I used were:
1 - cutting at 45% angle and then cutting upward slots into stem on reverse side of cut.
2 - cutting at 45% angle and then biforcating the stem
3 - cutting at 45% angle and then shaving down the entire stem to the meristematic tissue

I only have one example of the third method but it seemed to work much better than the other two. Biforcatign seemed the worst and gutting upward grooves seemed to place second. here are my pictures:

Damn that's pretty sweet looking. I ve been reading from the beggining and am very gladf for you. I am in the construction of my closet box(also in Apartment) using cfl's. I have a couple questions. how are your clones doing that were 12/12 off the start? 2. Have you checked on those wild plants latley? 3.How is the smell in your apartment is it overwhelming when you open the front door? keep up the good work this is my first post.
