First Clones

Hey there, I want to start taking clones. I want to take a few clones from shoots that wouldnt amount to much, for practice. I have this 3 part sample (mist, solution, gel) from Rx GreenSolutions and wanted to use that, and possibly try some aloe. What do you guys think about these?

I have a 15gal going with alot of shoots I can choose from, curious if stuff like that can root without too much trouble.

I wasnt sure if soil was my best bet, but besides that I only have perlite/hydroton/vermiculite/red lava rock. I might as well make a cloner, Im going to get a nice pump for aact as well.

I have Rx green solutions cloning regime or plain aloe vera. I wanted to learn how to clone, will these shoots work to practice on?

I started my first 15gal fabric and the plant is getting quite big. I have a 4x4 tent for flowering atm, you think I should fill the tent with 4 15gals and maby a 5gal if itll fit?

can't say much on those, no exp on it.
I just use an ez cloner and half distilled half rain water.
I've used pure distilled, and pure well water also, usually a 90% success or higher.
depending on the plant size is what will dictate the size needed, meaning if it's already rootbound and huge..
Personally I've abandoned my smartpots in favor of my 7 gallon plastic containers, they are taller and I get a better rootball out of it. The smartpots I tried to like.... used em for 4 yrs now, and I had an extra plant that I put in my old 7 gallon plastic and it outperformed my 12 gallon smartpot containers..
That and the smartpots are difficult to thoroughly water.
Smaller footprint, and in my experience cannabis likes a deeper rather than wider container.
Anyways, this run i'm going with 12, 7-gallon, instead of 9, 12 gallon.
If you are using blumats or any type of passive watering system, the smartpots are good for that..
SO, i'd go with smaller containers, with plants topped to four colas, less vege time, quicker turnaround.
I also prefer a plant with four symmetrical colas simply because it tends to "match" it's footprint... meaning it's no bigger than the space the container takes up.
So this run i'll have 12 plants, four colas a piece, approx. 1- oz a cola, and I get 48 nice, somewhat easy to trim, colas.
If I get 48 oz, i'm happy, especially considering it's not a monocrop run.

Aloe Vera is the best rooting compound that I have ever used,I also use it in the water that I soak my cubes in,has for misting plants with it never tried that so could not comment on the effects that will have on them.

I normally root in 10/12 days ,since using aloe Vera there rooted in 7/8,but the root growth after is where you can tell the difference ,I have done side by side testing with that against clone x a v wins every time.I continue to feed this mix of the slime from one leaf mixed with about 3 ltr of water, the clones and seedling love the stuff .my latest grow was started out on the a/v mix the root structure is un real,on them now.

I didnt phrase my question correctly, thanks for the good info tho. I am curious more so on if the shoots in the pictures would work as practice clones? Rather than cutting a healthy, big cola shoot.

Ok cool, ill give the aloe a shot. I got this rx green solutions as a sample. The cloning regime is 3 bottles. Mist, solution, gel.

I thought it said to spray the plant (or shoot your cloning, idk off top of my head,) with the mist a week prior to cloning. Then the solution is for soaking the clone cube or something, and the gel is used like normal. Probably just use aloe to start off with.

The pictures I posted above, will those shoots work as good practice clones?

Those shoots will work great. When taking clones make sure the "shoot" you try to clone has nodes on it. Aka branching leaves or nubs where they will grow from. That is where toots will start.

I'm glad you got the samples I recommended you to reach out to them I do believe.

The mist is used to reduce wilting or stress from cutting the "shoot".

Gently scrape off leaves except for the top and or rough up the stem near the nodes you plan on applying the gel. Never dip cuttings directly into the gel container. Always pour a Lil gel in a shot glass or similar vessel and dip clones in that to avoid cross contamination. After use store gel in ur fridge.

Place cutting with clone gel already applied to it, into whatever your cloning method is. Rock Wool works well.

Make sure you follow directions on Life solution and correctly pH to under 6.0. If your pH is 6 or higher you will fail. If you are around 5.5-5.8 you will have roots.

Make sure cuttings do not get light where roots are developing.

Mist cuttings with H2o daily and change solution every 3 days to be safe.

Mist the plant the day ur taking clones.
Solution is to soak cubes and or use instead of water in aero/bubblecloners etc..

Label ur clones and see what does better. Aloe or Life. I'm interested.

That was you, sorry I never replied to you asking if I got them. They sent me part A and B of grow and bloom, 2 packets of their Root, 1 pack of axiom and a nice bag it all came in for free.

those cuts are fine to use.
If you have low success %, i'd get an ezcloner.
I wish I would have bought an ez cloner yrs and yrs ago.
SO much easier

That's pretty sick. All for just sending an email to them right? Axiom is the shit! Only product like it in U.S. right now. Boosts resin production. Immune system. Boosts cell production. Basically a redbull flu shot of Harpin proteins. Make sure you apply 30 mind before lights are on!

I have the cloning gel from rx green and that's what I've been using. I didn't know they have a 3 part I think it's a good product and gets the job done. I get roots in 7-8 days in rock wool. Those shoots in the pic would be just fine for cloning

Yup all for just sending an email. He said he sent it but it didnt show up for like 3 weeks so I mentioned it to him, and he sent it in 2day express mail! Very nice of him (them,) Im excited to start cloning.

Jenny, how much did their clone gel cost you?
I am debating whether or not I should build an ez cloner or just us3 rockwool. Obviously cloner would be better. I have 50$ amazon gift card that Im using for this.

Suggestions?

Clone gel cost me 10$. Ez cloner does seem a lil better but I have never used one. More people seem to go towards the ez clone.

That must've been a big size. The small is 2.99$ near me. It's the size of one of those chapsticks u use ur finger to apply.

Also. Kindsir. The ez cloner on amazon for 67$ seems like the best deal. I'd get less cloning sites cyz they're the same size. I don't want the clones too cramped

Everyone has success but me. Haha my bubbleponics cloner stunk. It had only 13 sites and made out of opaque Tupperware and nerf darts. I do better in Rockwool under a dome. And no extra electricity bill from the pump.

My best method is a Rubbermaid (under the bed style) with plastic over the top since all my cloning domes are all too small for tons of clones. I place it directly on top of T5 to stay perfect temp and out of light. Checked today.. seeing some roots in just 5 days.

I put a hygrometer inside to monitor.

I clone a lot and here's my two cents. (I work almost exclusively with fast-growing indicas so most of my observations should be seen in that light, eh?)

The older the donor mom the better chance you have of seeing roots. Cuttings taken from moms that have been in dirt less than 5 weeks are tough to root. At 6 weeks in dirt my moms have my rooting rate over 90%. If you take a cutting from a mature mom you will notice a hole running down through the center of the stem. That hole helps the plant siphon water better and is likely to root faster. So, if you have the patience, wait until mom is 6-7 weeks in dirt before taking your cuttings. I like to take the entire top 6-8 inches off the top of a plant when she gets over 6 weeks. That top crown is nearly always the easiest thing to get to root.

I recommend keeping extensive notes when cloning. Every plant has to be individualized. If I put 5 rooted Blueberry Gum clones into dirt on Jan. 1 they would have individual labels of "BG 1-1-A, BG 1-1-B, etc.

Good luck, BigSteve.
