Hello everyone,
This is my first post on a forum so I apologise if I do something incorrectly and I understand that everything I say could be total bs as I have zero prior knowledge. I have been lurking on here for quite a few weeks.
I wanted to keep everything as simple as possible.
Have been working from home for quite a while now, decided I needed a side project or I'd go stir crazy. Went and got a plantling(?) From a friend for free (she is staying in another country for the time being and is not reachable).Having absolute zero prior knowledge, I researched what I needed, got the equipment and decided to put it through a cycle. it seems like I let it grow too big and the stretch was massive. Plant grew over 2.5m tall. I very very slowly bent the top branches using bend supports to reduce size as carefully as I could.
It was repotted in a 10L pot and switched to flower on 18th october and grew like a mad thing. This is where it is atm.
I have made some mistakes along the way like letting it grow to big, no training, no topping, nothing.
Few weeks ago I defoliated.
Since I switched to flower, it grew and grew and grew. Researched showed that it was normal on some sativas so I let it carry on. I believe my mistake here was I switched to flower too late. The buds only started to put on volume some time ago (again had me worried that it was taking too long. Found out it was a sativa due to size and sometimes this happens).
The lighting also became sub-optimal because of the plant's size so I moved it back and tilted it so it is more intense and within the correct range (as much as I could) it is rotated 90 degrees everyday.
I also found the temperature was a bit high for my liking so I pointed the fan towards the light to maybe help cool it and positioned it near the filter fan.
Some of the pistils have started going brown but Google said that this sometimes happens with long flowering sativas.
Recently I noticed the leaves started clawing and it has gotten worse.
I would like to know:
How does everyone think i have done overall?
Can you spot any glaring errors I have made?
Any improvements I can make?
Any other advice or criticisms please?
And mainly how shall I correct the clawing and what do you think is causing it?
I started watering it with 1 litre every day, then 2 litres making sure I had run off. Everything seemed fine for the most part.
As the plant grew it must have needed more and more water, but I kept feeding it only 2 litres daily and at some point stopped checking for runoff. Scratching my head as to why the leaves were clawing and I realised that I hadn't checked runoff in a long time. Lifted the pot very slightly and saw after feeding the 2L that there was zero runoff. It took about 3.75 litres of water to get approx. 500ml of runoff. For the last 2 days I have been giving it 3.75 litres and testing the runoff.
Ppm of runoff is more than double that of feed. This was the first time I had checked the ppm.
Because of that I believe that it is root bound(pot is too small because i let it grow too big and didn't have enough space) coupled with nitrogen toxicity?
Will flushing with very very weak feed fix this and do I keep flushing untill the EC is back within range?
Information:
Strain/genetics: sativa strain unknown
Started grow: 20th June (from plantling in FD up soil)
Started flower: 18th Oct
Growing medium: canna Coco coir plus (since 18th Oct)
Feed water: tap water left open for 48 hrs
Water analysis(straight from tap):
Water hardness type:
Slightly hard
Water hardness average:
42.3mg/l calcium
First value on table - Substance
Second value - Typical Value
Third value - area limit
Fourth value - Unit
Nutrients since flower: canna Coco ab, canna rhyzotonic, cannaboost(10ml ab, 1.25ml rhyzotonic and 15ml cannaboost(was only 10ml cannabost upto 2or3 weeks ago))
Temp since flower: between 25-35c
RHumidity since flower: between 35-55 (mainly on the 40 range)
Water pH since flower: between 5.0-6.5 (mainly in the 6 range)
Lighting 650 HPS with controllable ballast set at 450 to avoid burn was at 400 upto approx a month ago.
Light/Dark period: was 12/12 but speed etc didn't feel right so switched to 9 light and 15 dark say a month ago.
Thank you in advance and I wish everyone the best of health and contentment during this time,
