The camera and lens combo is a Canon Digital Rebel XSI and the 18-55mm kit lens, so yes, you can get the exact same pictures I'm getting here..
However I do have a 430ex II flash (the kind that goes in the hotshoe on top of the camera) which allows me to send light wherever I want, so I just get near a white surface (wall, fridge, door, etc,) shoot the light at that, the light bounces off it and comes back at the plant illuminating my photo..
I don't use a tripod, getting the right area in focus is EXTREMELY tricky... for those preflower shots back on page whatever the hell, to get the preflower in focus probably took me about 25 shots.. I'm trying to focus on something that's .5mm tall and .5mm wide, with no tripod or stability and the area of focus in those image is maybe 1 or 2 MILLIMETERS wide.. it's REALLY thin... lol
