First Grow. How they look?

Hey everybody. Like the title says, first real attempt at growing. People have been very helpful.

The strain is Dakini Kush. 5/6 are in 3 gallon pots now. The 6th is in a 1 gallon. All are growing in happy frog 21” under a mars hydro sp250 18/6 in a 2x4 tent.
Tent has a heater and 4 inch inline exhaust running 24/7. Temps are steady 76-80. Running a humidifier on an ink bird. Rh has been staying 50-55. I’ve ordered a dehumidifier for when needed. There are two 6 inch fans moving air inside the tent.

Of the pictured plants 5/6 popped on March 8th. The smallest of those 5 has limped along very slowly until recently. I believe it was damaged after I accidentally uprooted it while removing its helmet in its first days. It struggled so much that I planted a 6th seed a few weeks later. That seed has already passed the runt.

I topped 4/5 of the original plants about 10 days ago. The newest plant was fim’d 2 days ago. The plants are short and bushy and I really love hanging out with them.

I have made some rookie mistakes along the way, watering too much early on, overreacting and under-watering later on. I think I’ve begun to get it right.

They don’t look perfect but I am very happy so far. There’s some curling on leaf tips...but I think that was the result of trying out some 1/4 strength veg nutes too soon. Ive gone back to straight pH’d 6.5 tap water and they seem to be recovering.

My plan is to top again in a few days, wait a week, replant in 5 gallon pots, wait another week, then flip...hopefully at under 18” tall. They’re at 8” now at best.

Anyway, I’d love to hear some feedback. I have a grow journal but that’s mostly for posterity, not a lot of discussions. Let me know if I’m doing ok, any tips etc.

They look good and healthy man! What are you gonna use for flowering nutes?

Also, I don't know why, but I would transplant first, wait a week, then top, then flip if I were you. I usually wait at least two weeks after a topping to transplant. No science behind that, or even anecdotal evidence, just a gut feeling lol

I have the fox farm trio. I fed at 1/4 strength a couple times but stopped because the leaves started looking a bit off.

I will definitely reconsider my plans for topping and replanting. My thinking was to replant closer to flip so that the new soil could carry them into flower without needing to feed. Im actually a bit wary of feeding and not very knowledgeable on what the soil will provide and when to add nutes etc. What little I could find about growing Dakini Kush said they were sensitive to nutrients.

If I transplant first, then top, then flip, what’s the timing? How long should I wait to top after replanting? Then should I give them time after topping before flipping?

I have also considered slowly cutting back the lights an hour every few days until i get to 12/12. I figure maybe that way it’s more natural and perhaps they’ll show sex sooner? idk

I would transplant, give them a week to get settled in, then top. After topping I would give them at least another week before flipping but that's a little strain dependent. I like to see a couple nodes on all the new growth before I flip. If your leery of going too hard on the nutes you can leave your soil down about an inch then top dress with the same soil when you flip. That will get you a ways into flowering without needing the bottled nutes. But you will eventually need to feed them either way. Just start with a low dose, like half the feeding schedule, and keep upping it if they look like they can take more. As far as I'm concerned the Grow Big is useless but plenty of people like it. I find there's enough N in the soil and the other two bottles so it's not necessary. I follow the Lucas formula even in soil.

Checked my notes and it’s been 3 weeks since I replanted. I will take your advice, replant in a week leaving space for top dressing. Then top. When I start to feed I will just do it slowly.

I don’t like the fox farm schedule, how it has you feed a whole lot only to work in periods of flushing. Seems to me they’re just trying to sell more product at the expense of plant health. I plan to feed slow. Seems easier to fix underfeeding as opposed to over.

You got it buddy. A nutrient company's first priority is to sell their products. I feed every other watering myself. I'm using GO bottled nutes right now but I'm done with liquids after they're gone. Gonna try VEG+BLOOM Dirty next with their Life+ supplement and see how I like it, but no matter what, it's dry nutes from here on out for me.

I loved it, super simple. Self buffers pH. I started a PK supplement in flower but honestly it's not really necessary. I'm using their Tap/Hard product now that I'm in coco, still really happy with the results. And best of all for me, unlike Jack's or MegaCrop, I can just go to the local hydro shop when I run out.
