Bulldog - oooooh, I hope you're right! (I'm pretty sure you are 'cause she's even hairier today!)

Plus, today I spy little hairs sprouting out of the mutant! You can see them on here, but I can!

Mutant is getting as big as the girl (yet to be named) in the other pot!

And here's just a shot of how pretty leaves reaching for the light are...ahhhh! (This is the plant in the Earthbox w/ it's 3 buddies.)

Yeah, I saw that too...it's even more evident tonight. What if I pinch off those little balls? ;)

Well, looks like the biggest potted one is definitely a hermie - hairs and balls...bummer.

And I think that the big one in the Earthbox is a male.

The hope right now is for the mutant. I'm not able to tell right now but it's getting soooooo close! Damn, wish there was something I could do to influence the sex at this point!

Definitely have a hermie (those pics will be after the first two), but now I think I've got a big baby boy on my hands. It really sucks because this little bagseed beauty is getting nice and big - the stalk is almost as big as my pinky. It's in an Earthbox with 3 other plants. They aren't doing as well, dumb boy is probably hogging everything.

Share my pain via the photos below:

:???: Gee, wonder if those little...

:finger:Uh, yeah, I think they tiny balls developing. :cuss:

 Now, for today's hermie photos!

What did I do wrong, oh ganga god? Please make my little mutant a girl! If you do, I'll throw that boy and it's confused pal outside and let her have the whole greenhouse! It'll just be the mutant and the tomatos living in harmony with a few other edibles. Please!!! Mamma needs some sweet sensi! :weed:

Boy do I wish I was in CA and could just go get a whole boatload of female clones. I'd ditch these boys in a heartbeat. Ugh.

I think it is....but there is a small part of me that keeps hoping that these will magically sprout hairs instead of balls!

From the top

And now focused one step down the stem.

Today's photo of the hermie. Seems like it's not growing much now - like all the energy is going into it's confusion over what sex it is.

Here's the little family of survivors of the GREAT THRIP INVASION. As you can see, the "big" one in the Earthbox is growing by leaps & bounds - it's gotten almost a foot taller in the last week. The mutant is in the terra cotta colored pot in the front - Mutant is my hope for a girl. Thankfully, it's also the densest plant that I've got right now. Not shown are the seedlings coming up and the 3 other little plants that are trying to come back after losing most of their leaves to thrips. They are trying so I'm trying to keep 'em alive!

I've put Mr.Mrs. hermie outside now. I'm being very cautious about the mutant...if it IS a girl, I don't want any stray pollen floating around inside the greenhouse.

*sigh*

Sorry to hear about your misfortune gangabuck! I'll send you some positive vibes in hopes the mutant is a girl.

Here's what we've got cookin' in the greenhouse today. Here's "Earthie" - that's what I'm calling this big plant in the Earthbox. I still haven't decided if it's definitely a boy. I think so, but I've been fooled by leaves coming in before.

Here's the whole thing (it's grown about 8 inches this week!):

Here's a close up down on the stalk. What do YOU think? (Please feel free to post!)

Here's my little mutant, putting out 3 branches in every set - and see how it's getting nice little leaves where the stalk and branch meets? Awww! I am still hoping this one might turn out female.

Here's a closeup of what's going on down there...what do you think about the mutant?

Here's it's top...pretty!

Here's the hermie, banished outdoors. I think he/she likes it, though. It's been VERY windy today but it seems to be holding up. The soil looks dry on the top, but it's moist on the inside - I check it w/ a meter daily. Remember these plants are all given rainwater 'cause that's what our whole house is on. I don't ph test it because...well...I'm lazy and they seem to be quite happy without me fiddling with their water.

Two close ups on the confused budballs.

As always, your opinions and expertice are priceless to me, so please whatever you want to my journal.

Rock on! :leaf:

The one triploidy(mutant) looking plant seems to have balls also from one of those pictures... Are you forcing 12/12 light because this time of year they should be straight vegging out. Nice jackalope by the way!

I think what you saw on the mutant is the new leaves that are coming in. It's taking it's sweet f'ing time to show me what it is, that's for sure. Since they are all in a greenhouse or outside, I'm not forcing anykinda light - it's all just the sun. :)

Well, I was reading about triploids and duploids and thought at first that mutant might be one of them, but it seems that triploids (and duploids) can only be determined at a cellular level, not because it has triplicate branches. That's where it gets confusing - some people say they don't produce, some say they produce more. Some say 60% are males. Who knows!?!?

Here's some up close pics of the mutant today - I keep hoping that it will be female, but I'm still not sure what it's up to.

#1)

#2) Here's the biggest one in the Earthbox in the greenhouse - you tell me - think it's a male?

#3) Because right next to that one, is THIS one, which I'm thinking is definitely a girl. It's one that made a big comeback after the thrip invasion, so it's still very small, but it's showing promise - girl? Boy?

#4) And last and least, here's the hermie, who is going to be put down today. RIP hermie.
Hermie - as of today, flowering like crazy.

Closer...

A bit closer...

Even closer...

Closer still...

And last one...

So let me know -
#1, think it's too early to tell (TETT), MALE or FEMALE?

#2, think it's male? YES or NO?

#3, MALE, FEMALE, or TETT?

#4, Hermie - RIP.

Grow happy! :weed:

Hey joebuck, I think #3 (small with promise) is female. I believe I saw male flowers on the rest of the plants.

Sad news - my exhaust fan jiggled itself out of the window it was in and fell on the mutant. Broke it off about halfway up the stalk. It had probably been broken for hours when I found it and the bend point was completely dry - I would have splinted it immediately had I seen it right away, but didn't. Anyway - trimmed up the top part that broke up, dipped it in rooting hormone and am trying to revive it. After 2 days of looking like sh*t, it perked up and is actually looking like it might grow (knocking on wood). I was so mad and sad - between the hermie, hoping for the mutant, the biggest plant in the Earthbox looking male, I was really frustrated. I kept everybody watered this weekend but purposely stayed out of the greenhouse 'cause I needed a break. I think it's too hot in there and am probably going to move everything outdoors at this point. It's like an oven - and to keep it a little cool, I have to shade it and I think the plants all want more sun. The plants I have outside are going like crazy right now, so I am going to migrate everything.

I'll get some pics up in the next couple days.

Happy growing, think females for me - I need some GOOD plant news!

Hello joebuck, sorry for all the bad news. I'll send you some good vibes! I would try female vibes but that might make the hermie situation even worse. lol

Well, here's what's left of the mutant. The top didn't root and has since died. (Bummer) You can see the poor truncated stalk.

This frog tried to nurse the mutant's top but it didn't work...in fact, could have been the demise. Cute frog though.

However, two of the seedlings that I had started about a month ago are doing really nicely. They have been outside 24/7, in the scorching sun and they LOVE it. It's cloudy, hot & humid today but they like that too. Here's one of them - it's short, fat, & apparently happy. Nothin like a happy baby - I swear it would gurgle and coo at me if it could.

And meanwhile, here's that big plant - looking awfully male. It's sad because it smells SO good.

Wish me luck everyone - I've really GOT to get one female out of all of these plants and time! Sheesh!
