First grow, in greenhouse, from bag seed

Your shits looking gorgeous man!
Thanks! I took a little sample and tried it - it was really nice, even better now 2 weeks later, I'm sure.

I got one of those little hand-held 100x-60x microscopes at Radio Shack and WOW - I think most of the plants are ready to harvest! Woo hoo!

I took it off of one of the branches that snapped off Etta...I haven't splurged and cut one of the "real" buds off yet. I can wait it out. :weed:

Today my husband and I (yes, that's right, in case you weren't paying attention, I'm a girl) harvested the first two plants to come "of age", Millie and Maime. Millie was the smallest plant as a little 'un; the runt of the litter. She did give it her all though. These two were the only survivors of the Earthbox experiment. I think next year it's tomatos in the Earthbox.
Thank you, Millie and Maimie.

Following fdd's instruction, cut them down into manageable sizes

By the second plant, I was tossing useable trim into the stove pot and the fluffy bits into a bowl. I figure we'll save the fluffy bits to grind for EZ joint making.

This is partway through manicuring the 2nd plant. Our living room smelled awesome! By now our fingers were sticky and scissors were gaining dark resin blobs, which I gathered together and stored.

Here's the fluffy bits.

I did find a few seeds in these, but that's ok (like 6). I figure if it's good, we're all set to try this again next year. Here they are hung in an undisclosed dark location.

Etta
Admittedly, Etta looks a bit sickly, but she's been through ALOT. Look back in my journal and give her some credit. She's the one I can really see getting clumpy and thick in between the nodes.

I think she's still 2 weeks away from harvest - at least.

This is Trixie. She's the one that I've posted about whose leaves are yellowing. The buds look good, so I've been advised that this is natural - Trixie's just getting tired. I think she's about a week away from harvest.

One of Trixie's trix - these aren't for kids.

Not picured is Bessie, who I didn't get a photo of somehow...(could be because I was high while taking photos?). Anyway, she looks like Trixie but all green. She's getting very close - also probably a week from harvest.

Please feel free to comment - I've learned so much but want to keep learning, so speak up if you want to! :)

Just covered the greenhouse because it may dump in a few minutes and the branches would surely break at this point if they got soaked.

There's just 3 out of the 5 left now: Trixie, Bessie, and Etta. They are all dying off while the flowers mature. It's a sad and happy event. I'm a little sad to see the plants die but happy to be harvesting some more tasty bud soon! Anytime you touch them in the least, you come away smelling like sticky goodness. Mmmmmmm! :weed:

Here they are:
Trixie

Bessie

and last, but not least, Etta. Who has been through alot, poor girl. She's still givin' it up though, bless her little green heart. She's going slowly right now - probably because of the damage to the fan leaves (don't really know what it was - possibly nute burn?), but I figure that's just more energy going into the buds, right?

Note to self for next year:
Plant in GROUND. :bigjoint:

trixie is lookin pretty fat and etta is lookin pretty good as well. great job! what strains are they though?
Thanks, tyler. No idea on the strain, just bagseed. I supposed some sort of sativa because of the leaf structure. Next year I'll plant the few (so far) seeds I've found but will also get some identified strains (feminized, no more of this plant now, tell sex later bullshit!).

Not really. I need something that's not sensitive to high temperatures and likes alkaline, well-drained soil. I'm probably going to dig out a spot and then build a raised bed around it 'cause our "soil" is more like rock. At least with the seeds I have from Maimie and Millie (only found 8 or so), I'll know the kind of plant I'm dealing with and it's likes and dislikes...and now I'll be better prepared to get after the damn bugs. I was showing my husband a Trixie bit under the microscope and we saw a live spider mite (insert ACK! here - it was a nasty looking thing!). I hate those fuckers.

Hi everybody - Well, got some samples off of Trixie and Bessie (Etta is far from ready) and here's the results. Need more time, definitely. Trixie has some damaged trichs that I think might have fooled me had I not read RIU because they are decievingly amber.

I think it's interesting to note that Trixie's hairs are almost all turned, but according to her trichs, she's definitely not ready. Bessie on the other hand is still pumping out fat white hairs. I'm going to get them some molasses today and try it. They seem to be hungry for a little somethin' and I figure we are at least 2 weeks away from harvest.

Bessie:

Trixie (her other trichs look more clear than the ones above on Bessie, so I didn't bother saving a photo).

Happy growing! :weed:

And now there is only one still standing...Etta.

Here's Trixie pre-chop

Here's Bessie pre chop:

Getting Bessie into the house (or is that Tixie...now I'm not sure). Foot in there for size contrast. :)

Bessie's buds....very dense and yummy looking!

Right after I took this, my husband and I smoked some of Maime & Millie - they are still curing but we were very pleasantly stoned with a productive "up" high that was perfect. (He prefers to not get couchlocked - and since we are growing this for us, it's exactly how I wanted it - perfect relax and party bud that still lets you socialize when you smoke it, not end up in a lump...not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)) We called a friend and left a message that was mostly us giggling like little kids - SO fun!

Here's Bessie and Trixie hanging. I prepared the environment first. It's (obviously?) a spare bathroom, which works great because I blacked out the windows, pushed towels under the door bottoms (to keep the humidity in), got the humidifier ready, and can control air (there's an exhaust fan w/ heat if I needed it). It's been holding a nice steady 56% humidity at about 73 degrees all weekend, with me turning the humidifier on and off when needed. I am determined to keep these from drying out too fast.

After Sat, Sun, Monday hanging, Trixie went into jars today. I think I need to reduce the size of my hanging environment to slow it down. Bessie is in there now. It's been a constant 70-75 degrees, 50 - 65% humidity but Trixie was still ready to jar today.

How much came off of Trixie? Well, I didn't weigh it right off the plant, but the amount I put into jars was 4.40 ounces. I got a little less off of Maimie and Millie combined and I've still got Etta to harvest.

Now the trick will be long term storage. Thinking of investing in a vaccuum sealer - come out of jar, seal up, put back in jars, store in fridge/freezer? We are obviously going to have WAY more than we can smoke in the next few months.

Bessie went into jars today - 5.15oz of Bessie, to be exact. :weed:

And then there was one - Etta, who I'll check w/ the microscope later.
