Well, my camera does have a bunch of functions I've never used like macro etc so I should be able to get some more quality pics once I figure all of these settings out.. Mine were on their 3rd set I think at 2 weeks, not sure. They start out slow, and then grow faster and faster it seems :D

3/4 females would be ideal for me... Since I only need 1 male to get the seeds.. Alas, things don't always work out ideally. Probability is 1/4 or 25%.. All fem or all male is only 6.25% so I don't think I'll end up with that.. Most likely is 2 fem 2 male at 37.5%..

Now if I had 5 plants it would only be 3.125% likely that I would get all male or all female..

If you got all male out of 10 you're really unlucky.. Only a .098% chance of that happening.. :D I'm bored I guess so I'm doing probabilities lol

I have some weird new growth on my smaller plant.. yellowish.. Possible deficiency of some sort? Rest of the plant is green and most of the new growth is green, just one part of it is yellow. I'll post pics today or tomorrow. I water every 3 days or so, but who knows I could be over watering or under watering.. I put more water than I wanted on the larger plant it's not showing any problems though (that was about 3 days ago). They both probably stretched a little, because I had my light too far away I guess at the beginning. I was too afraid of burning them, but I now see they can stand it no prob. Growth is basically where the leaves are right on top of each other now, before it was stretched between nodes.. Oh well I think they'll be alright. Stems are starting to fatten up anyway.

I haven't used any nutes yet, but I have:

Fox Farms Grow Big
Fox Farms Big Bloom
Fox Farms Tiger Bloom

I think it's getting close to that time where I should start adding nutes for the 2 bigger ones. Maybe Big Bloom and Grow Big? I dunno I'm going to be flowering in 2 weeks though.

the 2 young ones look fine.. Nothing much going on with them.. one is on it's second set and the other is just getting done with the 1st set. Wish I didn't start them at different times, but that's the way it went :( Second grow should go more smoothly.

On another note, I can finally smell them when I put my nose to them.. Still, barely any odor, unless I turn the fan on for awhile (which I usually run when the lights are on) Then the closet smells a little weedy lol

Leaves are getting bigger and longer, and I see these little things on the nodes I think I read that they will soon turn into more branches.

Going to start nutes next watering... (at least big bloom, not sure about grow big yet..)

You should be starting the grow big, not the bloom. The bloom is for flowering. Since you haven't fed them yet it might be a deficiency starting. I would maybe start out doing half of what's recommended for the first feeding, just to see how they react. Are you going to use nutes every time you water or every other time since you water every 3 days?

Well, big bloom is supposed to be used throughout the plants life cycle according to fox farm.. It's not really specific to blooming.. It's for root growth etc.. Tiger Bloom is though.. They recommend using both Big Bloom and Grow Big during veg, and Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom during flowering. Most people recommend every other watering, so I will probably be doing that. To start I might just use 1/4 strength.. I'm not sure, I just don't want to burn them.

That's what I do, every other watering. I started out 1/4 strength when mine were 3 weeks old. Now they're 4 1/2 weeks and I'm using 1/2 strength, but I've got LR2's going and they don't like too many nutrients. You just have try it, and then watch how they react.

Adding nutes tomorrow so we'll see how they react.. The weird growth turned green but shriveled..

I'm noticing real slight burns on my other plant, because I have the light really close 1-2in, but it seems to be speeding up growth, and remaining nice and compact. I dunno, slight burns or slower growth and more stretching? It's probably male because I hear males grow faster, and this one is definitely growing faster than my other one.. I would still like to hope it's a vigorous female though :D

Also, new leaves seem to be showing 7 points now.

Smaller one is on its 6th set and bigger one is on its 7th set.

Baby ones look fine, just like my other 2 did at the same amount of veg time.

I never thought it would be so much fun to grow something.. I now see why people garden lol..

Updated pics will be posted Friday.. Which would be Week 3 veg ? total 4 weeks old from sprout. Still not sure when flowering will happen, the 2 new ones are not old enough really, but I guess they will still basically veg till their ready to flower anyway.. They'll just be a lot shorter.. (from what I've read anyway..) I would like to wait till they have 3 sets of leaves at least, but I'm not sure..

Already planning my next grow.. Assuming I get seeds from this grow :) I will plant 10 seeds 12/12 from seed, get rid of the males, and then flower the females.. Eventually I want to set up a mother and do clones though. I just don't know exactly how that would work out at this point. Need to figure out exactly how and where I will set up the mother.

Even if they are small burns they might be causing stress, which might cause them to herm even if they are female. I know you said you want seeds but if you let all your plants get pollinated you'll be picking out seeds forever. And as far as 12/12 all the way... I'm not sure that's a good idea. What if you do it and you waste 2-3 months for nothing? I don't know if know from experience, I'm just assuming.

12/12 from seed is a method I've researched.. You can get 1-2OZ per plant with 12/12 from seed. It depends on the strain. Northern Lights is very good with this method, and from seed to harvesting is within 2 months. I was going to get Lowryder originally, but then I read about 12/12 from seed with Northern Lights and went with that, since Northern Lights generally yields more than lowryder in the same amount of time. Then I decided later on to just veg the normal way.

The burns are very small, it is mostly due to me not wanting to raise the lights because I have smaller plants that need the light to be lower on the other end. I'm going to have to have them stretch, no doubt, because I started them later.. (noob mistakes..)

They've gotten their first dose of nutes today though, so we'll see how they respond. I've also raised the lights, it's only the one plant that is burning slightly, it's the one that's growing like crazy and I think might be male anyway, since males generally grow faster, from what I've read.

As far as getting seeds, I've read other methods out there that can be done without pollinating them all.. I just don't know if I can do it without screwing it up, and ending up with them all pollinated anyway. I might give it a try though.

I'm not looking for a supreme "great" harvest this time around, this is more of an experiment than anything. I just wanted to see if I could do it to begin with. If I get anything, great, if I don't, I don't really care much :P

However, I am trying to do things as best I can with what I have. 12/12 from seed would just be another experiment. You see, I'm looking for perpetual, and I don't have seperate light setups unfortunately. The only other way would be to setup a mother, which I don't know if I can do that yet.

I'm not afraid of experimentation, this is more like a hobby.. It's not "work" and "time" for me. It's fun.. Yield is something I'm simply not worried about.

Now that I've thought about it.. I can stack those 2 smaller plants on something to make them be closer to the light. I just need to think of something to stack them on..

Yea, if I had some books that would work.. (well I do, but they're probably not the right size..) Hmm.. Might just buy some plastic storage things to put them on.. (flipped upside down..) Would work so long as they're strong enough to support the weight.

build a small cabinet u only need it 2x2x4 to keep 2 mothers for clones throw 2 t5s or 125 watt cfl and that would be perfect for a mother/clonebox ohand sneakerboxes should put them closer to the light

Hey Jet, I pollinate with a very small paintbrush. On my first grow I let the males go just until the flowers on the top were lighter in color and just a couple days from opening. I then chopped the plant and took a pin and opened about 30 of them up and scraped the pollen out on a mirror, and then saved it in a contact lense case. Just make sure your fan is off when you pollinate. Where did you read that thing about 12/12 from seed? I'd like to try it if it works. Right now I have LR2's going, and they run 18/6 straight through but if I could cut down my electric use and get more that would be awesome.

you go to your local woodyard and ask if you can have any off cuts and then just stack them up to the desired height.

This is a strain report by Atmosphere I think on Northern Lights. He states he got about 1 oz per plant in a little less than 2 months. Others have tried it as well, I think the worst is you'll get 1/2 oz or so from Northern Lights.. Not sure, but I do want to test it :)

Yea, I will try something like that, because the more I think about it, it really would be better. I don't need a TON of seeds.. Just enough to keep me going for awhile till I set up a mother plant.

Oh yea, and they seemed to have liked the nutes I gave them.. Growing a little faster after I did that. I still think they're stretching though.. I dunno.. The bigger one is 1ft, smaller one is 9in. Little leaves are popping out between the branches. 12/12 Strain Report: Northern Lights by: Nirvana

1) your experience level...This is my second garden, and the first I have tried with 12/12

2) Lighting...CFL's, 12 mounted in shoplight reflectors, 23 watts each, 276 watts total.

3) Container size...individual pots, 5.5" x 5.5" x 6" tall. Approximately 1 liter.

4) Soil recipe/mix...Foxfarm Ocean Forest organic soil and perlite, 2/3 FFOF, 1/3 perlite.

5) Watering schedule...I use the pot lift (test for weight) method, make sure to let the soil get pretty dry between waterings. Wind up watering every 2-3 days once plants get full grown.

6) Nutrients used...just plain PH'ed water first 5 weeks, Pureblend Pro Flowering formula for soil, every 3rd watering (about once per week), at the recommended strength on the container. Flushed last 2 weeks by only watering with plain water.

7) Time until sexing...6 plants total, 2 showed female at 14 days, the other 2 showed female on day 15. Also 2 males showed up, they were shown the door on day12.

8) Total flower time...Just about 52 days (I let 2 go to day 58 just to get a more couch lock effect), trichomes picked around 30% clear;50% cloudy; 20% amber. Pistils were approximately 50% orangy dried, the other half seemed still alive and whitish. Decent bag appeal I'd say...frosty too.

9) Conclusion...I really liked growing Northern Lights by Nirvana, would definately do it again. I really had no problems, except for my shortest plant (12"!) which had one big FAT cola, super dense, it got mold in it, had to make cannabutter. I had shitty ventilation, thankfully I had low RH or mold may have been worse. I got at least an ounce of great weed from each plant (sizes:12"; 16"; 17"; and 23") and that was with a crappy light set-up.

Wow that's interesting. I might have to try this. I'm growing NL at the moment, but letting them veg for a couple weeks.

Yea, I looked up why there's leaves in between branches, and I guess they're starting on alternating nodes, so flowering could be done anytime with them. (also the fact that all new leaves have 7 blades) The other 2 seem too small though.. Eh.. I want to flower.. lol. I'll try waiting another week at least.. I have plenty of room for them to get tall, just worried I wont have enough light, or they'll get too big for their pots.
