A question for you Christians, why doesn't god shut down the lake of fire? He can just piss on it or something, I mean come on....

I guess you Christians might find that second part disrespectful, so don't think about it too much.... 'twas just a joke.

...no worries, not disrespectful. I feel it is there because its opposite is there. Hell can be viewed as inverted love.

Let's be honest, who doesn't like me? I feel asthough my depressing views on life (views which I'm not asking ANYONE to agree with) are forming Internet enemies. I really do hate the way I think, so I wanted some help from you guys.... Most religious people I know won't stand to hear me question their religion and most atheists I know won't stand to hear me speak of religion nor atheism. I was kinda hoping you guys would be more open minded. I'm getting off track here. So do you guys hate stealthman or not?

I guess one reason I use the word compelling is because it is the most descriptive. I find it difficult to be compelled by other people's experiences. The God Helmet is a good example of why, to follow up what you say. I discount alien experiences as well but to point out another reason why other people's testimony don't sway me would be Śri Sathya Sai Baba. Here is someone contemporary that is considered divine by millions of people, many of which have witnessed his miracles. His was a divine conception, according to his own mother, not some book written thousands of years ago. It doesn't appears that many people as well as many Indian and western scientists and skeptics that saw him while he was alive were convinced of his divine heritage or powers otherwise you would have heard of him and you would be a devout follow I'm sure. Actually, had you known about him, I bet you would have some of the same skepticism I have in spite of the millions of believers. You reject millions of other people's experiences all of the time without even knowing it. In fact, you reject my personal experience that skepticism and doubt lead to the truth more often than any other existential means and my experiences with being able to short circuit other people's brain through decades of performing as a semi-professional magician and mentalist. I know how easy it is to make people remember their own experiences incorrectly -- more impossible than the actual effect was through the use of certain language and behavior. These personal experiences are just as valid as yours, if not more so, because mine are more honest IMO in the rare case that something stumps me, I don't immediately think "god" or "magic" but "I don't know" is sufficient and true.

...what about stealthman? Does he hate him? No forum person knows him well. Not well enough to form a valid opinion...you know, the kind that might provide gainful employment, or something. :)

I clicked on the link thinking we were gonna be discussing how great pot is.

Not more pointless threads about whos ideas about life are better and what not.

I'm going to sue for false advertising...

...I have no doubt of your mentalist capability. I have to be careful of how I read the word 'you' in your post. I would not discount your experiences, rather, learn from them. I'm not stumped, and I can't exactly recount my tale for obvious reasons. I didn't jump to god when I had my experiences. It wasn't a last resort to my thinking ability. Most importantly, I don't want to sway any opinions. By this I mean that I know these experiences are of 'nous' and not simple - or to be taken lightly.

Great post, but is that aimed at me? I don't think "god" or "magic"....

I also said that to put everyone in a good mood. We can talk about the most wonderful plant in the world though, :). I have no problem with that lol.

Sorry Tyler. I guess I'm just stupid since I didn't see any. There is no need to be sarcastic though, what did I ever do to you?
I thought you'd find my sarcasm amusing. I guess my reasoning was narcissistic, because it amused me. I even put the winky-face at the end and everything :)

So I'm pretty damn curious about our species. How would you describe humans (in depth) in your own words (or a really badass quote)?

And another thing, lol at points of life. We give to much credit to life. It just goes to waste at the end of life. We try finding some very meaningful purpose to life, but why? What if our purpose is to ALL commit suicide? If I said the purpose of life is to commit suicide, would you guys disagree? Why?:eyesmoke:

"fuck it.... I guess we lost

Someday you will die somehow and somethings gonna steal your carbon"
i like your modest mouse quote by the way, love that song too. these are my favorite two sayings.

"To lay your troubles at the feet of one greater than yourself and to trust your fate to that power would be a relief. But in doing so it allows you to feel as if you no longer have to be directly responsible for whatever you do..."

"Science can tell us what we can know, but what we can know is little, and if we forget how much we cannot know we become insensitive to many things of very great importance in the universe.
Theology on the other hand induces the dogmatic belief that we have knowledge, where in fact we have ignorance, and by doing so generates a kind of impertinent insolence towards the universe.
Uncertainty in the presents of vivid hopes and fears is painful, but must be endured if we wish to live without the support of comforting fairy tales…….."

No, it was directed to eye exaggerate in explaining why I hold the position I do and why although I don't begrudge anyone their own belief, if someone then wants me to take their belief seriously it is up to that person to present a compelling reason that I should as well, otherwise there's no point in discussing it. IOW, I feel it is entirely appropriate to criticize and point out flaws in a person's thinking if they want to publicly declare an unsupportable belief. If I insisted that Excalibur is a real magic sword and still exists to this day, just lost, most people would politely say 'okay' and walk away slowly. Every day people make overt claims about the existence of a deity. This to me is in the same realm as fairies and elves (which BTW, are still strongly held beliefs in places like Iceland). I have tried to stop asking for empirical evidence that there is a god, I am asking for much less stringent requirements, merely compel me, give me good rational reasons that I too should believe that a god exists. I don't even need to accept that this god actually cares about human beings and their welfare. Eye then alluded to personal experience of others which led to my rant. :)
