I'm currently doing pots, mainly because my native soil, at least in the areas where I can grow, are extremely rocky. It's much easier to fill a pot with soil than to dig a hole ANY depth, let alone to properly amend our clay and rock. This should bump you.

In any event, both options have their pros and cons. Such as watering issues, temperature and stability. Also, lighting, for instance with a plant in a pot that's in a location where the sunlight changes through the season can be moved according to need, whereas a plant in the ground would have to be dug up, so it's another consideration. As is fertilizing. These are off the top of my head, so.. at least I've bumped ya! How much of the GrowFAQs have you read on the subject?

not much ive just been researching indoor with cfl and hps and metal halide taking in as much knowledge as i can.
but i was wondering basically if i could just germinate and plant it in the ground outside and just let it grow with otu doing much , seeing how somethign came up and im going to be leaving state for 2-3weeks.
so figured maybe just throwing it in ground with some foxfarm, dig a lil hole and throw fox farm soil in it maybe and plant seed?
or will i just get a dead plant form that?

Does anyone know if these things are possible to do?

The only problem i can think of is the fact you wouldn't be there to water them, cause seedlings don't need much attention for the first few weeks, but they'll also die if they dry out, i've lost a few seedlings this way already.

ok so just watering would be an issue. but if it rains? then i would be perfect? or close enough to it to get something nice when i come back?

Plants should be watered every other day or every few days of so. if you think it's going to rain enough to keep them moist untill you get back.

k so maybe i can have a friend do a lil watering for me, but how about the nutes?
can they do without for entire grow and just go with nature?

Yes, you could have a friend water them for you, but it's not a good idea for people to know what your doing, they don't need nutes for the first 2-4 weeks as seedlings, they'll get everything from the soil but after 2-4 weeks they're going to need some kind of food.

ok because i seen threads here and there where people just basically threw seeds in soil. and didnt tend to them much at all no special soil no nutes
a lil watering here and there
and got nice plants.

It's all depends on where you live, the soil and the amount of food in the soil that the plant can use and how often it rains.
