yeldarb thank you for your input! It's good to have you along. See below for my response to both you and
HERBAL ADDICT. Also, your handle, is it from a) "
noop yeldarb" from starwars b) Obama's ability to outperform polls when actual votes occur (the
reverse bradley effect) or is it c) just bradley spelled backwards? Inquiring minds want to know!
Really? - If I recall correctly, Dr. Bud used verm and perl + nutes. I have a big bag of MG potting soil, and despite the reports of poor yields with MG, I don't want to spend money on nutes when I've already got a nutrient rich soil. I'll take your advice, though, when it comes time to transplant, and mix in a bit more perlite to improve drainage. Thanks!
HERBAL ADDICT and
yeldarb, I love that a couple of experts are debating aspects of my little grow project! I think I will sneak a peek at my seeds underneath the peat, partly to satisfy my curiosity, and partly because,
HERBAL, I know what you mean about the water adding weight to the soil. Even though I just sprinkle a teaspoon or so, it really seems to thicken up the peat on top of the seed, and probably buries it a little deeper. So I'm gonna GENTLY uncover the seeds, then barely cover them back over with peat.
HERBAL, you mentioned putting your seeds into soil...what soil mix/nutes do you use to get your seedlings going? Also, what exactly do you mean by a "propagator"? [

Question: I currently have 3 x 42W 2700K CFLs positioned 3-5" away from my jiffy-7 peat pellets, on 24/0. Is this good/bad?
Suggestions? I'm gonna have to make some kind of enclosure to house bonsai mothers, fathers, a cloner, and a flowering area. I'd like to do this as frugally as I can, with CFLs, using SOG for flowering, and with a DIY carbon filter attached to fan-ventilation. I've looked over many plans, but do my readers have any personal experiences to share?
BTW I put the rest of my bagseed (20+ beans) into a wet paper towel to germinate. Figure I may as well, since they were basically free, and I'll have a larger sample size to find females and good phenotypes. Some of the seeds are brown, but some look like lizard skin, light green, with tiny dark green speckles and brown/green stripes. The person who gave them to me said that they're a fast-growing jamaican strain that may reach 6' if allowed to grow completely. Anyone have any idea what strain this may be?
