I personally think a big part of the reason we don't see more FDD, is the fact that people are afraid to invest that kind of money without seeing the results first. If I had that money, I wouldn't think twice about it, the science behind it seems solid. I don't really know if 3lb off 600w is gonna be possible, but it seems like 2 should definitely be.where's the pot? these things have been around for 10 years now. i've seen pics of 2 with pot in them. that's it. i would think if this was soooo good, like 3 pounds off a 600 watter good , then EVERYONE would do this. why don't we see more of these grows?
Also no offense oregon, but building this kind of system out of hula hoops really doesn't seem like it would be able to handle the stress of turning constantly, or the weight of the plants and wet medium once it was unside down.
Now in referance to the water dripping on the light. From what I've read the only complaint I've heard from people about this system is some dripping. But a simple solution to that is to lower the water level in your tray, so only like 1/4" of the cube enters the water, by the time its upside down, any dripping will be done, and the cube will have just enough water in it. Rockwool stays wet for a long time, so you don't need to dip the cube deep to water the plant effectivly.
