trying to get everything in order for some spearfishing in the Dominican in 3 months. ive had some experience with a gun, but seems you can only pole spear in the areas where the tourist aren't. lionfish are open season as they are invasive and delicious, from what ive read. also a restaurant close by that will prepare your catch. any dive time and ill be happy. free dive of course.:leaf:

Be careful of the dorsal rays (most have 13 I think) - they can hurt you bad.
They also have a couple of spines on the anal fin, though I don't know if those are venomous too - regardless, I'd still avoid them.

I see guys clipping them off w/ scissors on the tube.

ive heard about those spines. I remember seeing them in the caymans but everything else was plentiful, so we didn't have a reason to go for them. from what ive been reading recently we have to go pretty far offshore to get anything else as any close shore reef fish are mostly gone due to overfishing. since lionfish are invasive and also are eating up the reef fish, ive no qualms about going for them. a lot of people have been comparing them to eating hogfish, so im excited. we will probably end up chartering, so maybe some snapper is in my future too.

I ve done bow fishing in fl. Wading through water with a bow and arrow catchig mullet. used to do Hawaiian sling fishing under ther piers for sheeps head. both were pretty cool Experiences. There was a canal down the street from my buddys house that had a walking bridge going across it. We What take a spool of wire Put a hook on the end of it and a donut or piece of bread. Lower it down into the water and all the minnows would eat the bread. That's when the big ass snooke that said on the bottom would pounce eat all the Manos swallowing the hook in the process.

Snook that live in an urban environment that see's lots of fishing pressure are almost uncatchable.
They get real smart real fast!

Yea they are pretty difficut to catch Great tasting fish though broiled in the oven with some butter and lemon wrapped up in aluminum foil

I've said it before.....I love to catch fish but don't like eating fish!
The last time...the only time i ate some snook,that's how I had it..lol..little butter,little lemon,wasn't bad;)

Did you know that in the late 1800's through early 1900's they were known as "Soap fish" because people didn't remove the skin before they cooked Snook & it made the meat taste like soap?

Personally I love it cut into "fingers", lightly breaded and deep fried.
