Flowering with Cree bulbs

Really? So the heat sink etc would still work if all flattened? Who is doing this cool stuff???

If a fellow could remove the bulb, flatten and use, this would be pretty damn cheap and easy to get into... $1.20 a Watt?

Ah- so heat sink mods, but you're using the "driver" electronics still. So the sink adds cost to the modification. Not that this is a terrible thing. I'm still deciding what I want for my new room. Nothing built, all from scratch, and these small LED light sources placed all over really are intriguing.

If these LEDs were dropped into or in between canopies, or vertical growing, maybe that would be efficient

Would a 1/2 round simple reflector be of any value compared to removing the sink, flattening and re-mounting to a new sink? Or in the ol' Inverse Square Law gonna kick us?

You would have to weigh the less light-efficient use of a reflector vs. the added cost and farting-around-factor to modify these.

The modification, if simple for folks to do also, would be great and long term better. Just need a way to epoxy the open current leads. Death tends to drag down efficiency stats, I've found...

I'll check out BumpingS's links to see what he's doing along these lines. Thanks for the super info.

I'm starting to learn the ugliness of reflectors. I'll be using my Area 51s on top and the A19s vert. Still haven't found the spectrum chart for the Cree 5000k A19s. Anyone have a link?!

I think if you lose the lamp socket convenience this is less of a convenient solution. If you could flatten the LEDs, attach a sink and somehow still use the screw-in lamp socket, then you'd have something.

My area 51s are in. Just have to figure out an ideal tent for these little ones. Thinking 2' x 3'....orrrrr 3' x 4' with supplemental A19s. So many choices.

Ive had my crees in for about 2 weeks now and im starting to wonder if maybe i should remove the diffuser, i was originally going to keep the diffusers on just for the warranty but some one mentioned that apparently the warranty will still cover them with a little bit of home depot trickery so now they got me thinking that i am probably losing an awful lot of light from the diffuser and the shatter proof silicone layer. The thing is though i really don't like the idea of my lights shorting out on my reflector or me, or the possibility of water hitting them, my space is very very cramped and it is a massive mess of cords because i really cant get in my closet to position things, so stuff tends to get banged around a lot, so i was wondering how delicate are the leds will the phosphorus coating wipe right off? Looking at the captains photos it seems to me like the majority of his bulbs still have the diffusers on them and if i can have my leds well protected and still produce the same kind of results i think I'm good with that.

I messed up my last bulb out of running out of patience...and the wife screaming get the damn bulbs out of my stove. Took bulb to HD and said it got warm and popped off when i unscrewed it. Simple replacement. I did 225 degrees on pcs of slate for 20 min. If it doesn't twist off easy than it's not ready. Just be very careful pulling off. I used and oven mitt for bottom and a dry rag to twist top.

How's about stripped A19s in between foliage.
Your going to burn you leaves once the globes come off. It would require adjustments all the time. It be like a CFL grow after a week or so . Globes have pluses and minuses. There's a more even dispersion with the globe, it's part of the lighting system. Plus ya gotta respect the light when the globes are removed or they might/could fuck you up. I turn them off when I touch or adjust them. Maybe that's what happened to the Capt'n? Fuckin' hope not . Hello Cap'n????? YOT?

Hey Psi, they're not that delicate that they wipe off but you could scratch them or have something slice the phosphor off exposing the blue pump. I got one like that actually. Did it while taking the bulb off. I was thinking of scratching off the phosphor coating on the diodes that face away from the plants to use as my blue percentage, then use 4 2700s. Think it might work on my setup. Might be a bit extreme though. I really ups the apparent brightness and could be really bad for my eyes. Good luck with your rig btw.

So... these bulbs are finding there place in my life. I stumbled onto an LED Light Bulb Store..... no shit. More like just a light store, had cfls and fluros etc. but they were having a rebate on the led globes so I wanted to see what the fuck was up...

and they had all of em, along with a few I hadn't seen before. (100w replacements) except the crees. Found out those are Home Depot exclusive. But these others, had the option of clear globes, or "frosted" (only on a few of the ones I saw) and were larger wattage replacements. Im going back down soon, I couldn't really look at the boxes with this guy blowing me up. Told him I was looking at replacing my household with LED. He explained that these were the Caddillac of LEDs and he'd cut me a deal for bulk orders of whatever. Fuckin place is like 45 minutes from my place but if I cant remember the brand Ima go back down there and get the scoop....

What I was getting at is yea there are a shit ton of varieties, styles, and brands.... so.... which ones best? who's running the best led's so far? Obviously CCT's pretty straight forward, but Fran- did you ever test the current on those emitters? I thought it was you that flattened out one of those series? (Edit: It was 'pheda, my bad) I wanna know which ones delivering the most "lumens" ;) and at what cost...

Ive seen the A19's thrown around a lot? Just curious, trying to fill some shaded areas on some ugly bitches. Fran that SLH is as tall as me my friend. Shit is outrageous- 3 more weeks! (and I say yay on Psu's new Avatar)

Edit II: http://www.switchlightingco.com/ These guys!
